The definition of versatility, the Canon EF-mount Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Canonfrom Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Canonis an Art-series zoom covering a useful wide-angle to short-telephoto range. Featuring a constant f/4 maximum aperture, this lens strikes an ideal balance between a portable form factor along with a bright enough design for working in available lighting conditions. Complementing this design, an Optical Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake throughout the zoom range for sharper handheld shooting. A Hyper Sonic Motor also contributes to intuitive handling and provides especially fast and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

Complementing the physical design, this lens is also distinguished by its advanced optical layout, which include a series of low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements. These specialized elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to realize a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Additionally, a Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to individual elements to suppress lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

Standard zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 38.4-168mm equivalent focal length range.

Constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains a portable form factor and also offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range.

Two F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements and two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Three aspherical elements control spherical aberrations and distortion for increased sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm is constructed from durable, fluorine-coated polycarbonate and also features a carbon feather film for smooth performance when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens parfocal?

A: No, the lens is not pafocal. You must refocus.

Q: 2. Does this lens feature hard stops for focusing?

A: There are no hard stops. In fact distance indicator is not accurate - it changes depending upon zoom. Also, if you are focused on something and change the zoom, the focus will also change. For example, in dim light focused near infinity will be out of focus if you change the zoom. Very annoying. Nikon lenses do not do this.

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with Nikon F100 35mm film camera?

A: Yes, the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens (Nikon F) is compatible with Nikon F100 35mm film camera.

Q: 4. What about the mismatch with Canon 6d's internal GPS? Has it been resolved?

A: If you have the Sigma USB dock and can download the latest firmware, the GPS issue appears to be resolved. It worked on mine.

Q: 5. Will this lens work on my Nikon f80 or F100 film cameras with full functionality?

A: On the F100 I am almost positive it will. I am not familiar with the F80. It's an amazing lens.

Q: 6. Is it weather-sealed? Is it true that all Sigma Art and Sport-series lenses are weather-sealed?

A: No, unfortunatelly it's not true.. Sigma Art seies are not weather sealed.. I own 3 of art series lenses , and they all are not weather, or even dust sealed... So , be very careful with them... However , optically they are very good.....

Q: 7. Is this lens fast enough for indoor basketball???

A: The f4 is probably too slow. I also found the lens wouldn't pass, travelled more than once, and only attempted three pointers.2/5 - wouldn't recommend as a teammate

Q: 8. Can someone explain more about the dock mentioned in the description, how much, what it's used for, etc? Thanks!

A: I have the dock and found it VERY useful for re-setting focus for Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art and 50mm 1.4 Art both are stellar lenses. Rather than just use the body and set focus closer or the like, this allows you to set the focus near/far at about FOUR different focus ranges. Example: 14 - 18 then 18 - 24 then 24- 38 then 38 - infinity -- those are just *guesses* at the ranges. I don't remember. But extensive testing showed that the lenses needed maybe +4 at the near range, +2 at mid range and -1 at infinity. You cannot do that with the camera body. And with a zoom, I'd imagine it to be even more important/useful.

Q: 9. Would this work with the Sony FS5? I would us a metabones speedboost adapter.

A: I have a different adapter which works with EOS lenses on the A55 (et alia) so there is no problem in concept. I suggest you research the Metabones adapter rather than the lens to see what level of performance you can expect.

Q: 10. is this lens good for portraits?

A: yes. it's a great all around lens. super sharp. you could always wait for a 2.8 24-70 from their Art line, but the 105 is a longer reach.

[Yes] The build quality of the 24-105mm is outstanding. I primarily use this lens for scenic and landscape photography. Although the lens is heavy, much of the time it is mounted on a tripod. Colors are rich and images crisp at the edges. So far I've found the autofocus on this lens is amazing as well as silent, fast and accurate - extremely important if trying to capture wildlife in the scene.

[Yes] I had been looking for a travel lens that was sharp and would not break the bank. I already had a Sigma 150-600mm and have been really satisfied with that lens. So I did my research for lenses in the 24-105mm range and Sigma seamed to preform really well and was much cheaper than other options. I got it before my trip to DC and NYC and was really happy with the versatility. Yes it is F4 and not something lower but still was able to get great shots in low light like the one I took of the Manhattan skyline. Definitely recommend this lens and definitely recommend buying from B&H, they are great at clarifying any questions you may have!

[f/4] Landscape and Animals. Very very quiet auto focus and fast. Color rendition seems good. Heavy when with my Canon 7d mkii? Definitely recommend.

[82 mm (Front)] Truth be told I purchased this lens because it was the only Sony A mount lens available. However, so far I am very satisfied with it.

[Full-Frame] This lens is AMAZING. It does struggle in low light situations, but outdoors, the sharpness of this lens is stunning. I will be a Sigma lens girl for life. 3 primes in one lens. It is extremely heavy, but I view that as how sturdy it is. Just love this lens!

[Autofocus] This is my primary lens. I utilize it in 75% of my workflow. This lens is very sharp, it focuses very fast and performs nicely.

[Canon EF] I ran into some bad luck with 2 of the Canon’s 70-200mm AF,
IS (the 1.4 and the 2.8L) lenses and after that fiasco, at some point, the shutter opened and I saw the light. I travel to a lot of questionable places and walking around with a huge, gaudy, 200 mm, white, flashy lens isn’t always the best thing to do. I shifted my focus to a smaller profile lens that would be suitable for urban exploring and one that can take the place of both the 35 and 50-mm lenses on long trips—to reduce weight and simplify packing— and still provide enough zoom. This lens met the requirements. It’s a 24-105 mm zoom lens, just under two pounds, and just shy of 5 inches long (from camera body to lens cap with a UV Hoya filter). This lens from B&H is incredible. I feel this is a very well-built lens, and this is what I should have initially purchased when I bought the 6D2 body. The photos are awesome (crisp and vibrant) and, the lens is $400 less than the equivalent lens made by the brand of my camera body! Although I also purchased the USB dock, no firmware updates were available and I have not needed to adjust any settings yet. Like the other reviews, AF is quick, the zoom feels firm and responsive, and is great for travel. Shooting mostly in manual mode, I am extremely happy with this lens and with the service I get from B&H. I like to shop at a variety of businesses but in the end, it’s just not worth it. B&H takes care of its customers in a professional manner and on a personal level. I feel my bad luck has finally passed. I am planning on getting the 100-400mm Di VC or the contemporary GD OS in a few months and I’ll have two nice lenses around the same cost as a 70-200 L zoom. If I had to come up with any downsides to this lens it’s because the USB lens dock is sold separately and the USB dock has a
proprietary USB cable—not a standard USB-C. There are not too many lenses in this zoom range given the quality and price, it’s a true winner!

[f/4] Excellent choice for an all-around lens when you don't want to spend the money for an L lens. Quality, build, size and ability are great. Looking forward to using this extensively.
