Ideal for use in modern recording and broadcast studios, the DIGI-TOOL F612 from Lake People is a distribution amplifier and digital splitter designed to deliver up to four expanded AES/EBU XLR outputs for one input at sample rates as high as 24-bit / 192 kHz. The F612 features two separate modules, one with a single XLR AES/EBU input and four XLR outputs, and another with one BNC wordclock or AES-iD sync input and eight BNC outputs.

The unit features high output voltages for maintaining signal strength over very long distances, and a high input sensitivity helps to regenerate weak input signals. The F612 also sports failsafe operation thanks to its switchable multimode power supply, which automatically detects power input and switches to the appropriate voltage between 90 and 260 VAC.

One of the most important features of any professional distribution amplifier is the signal strength of the output, as a strong signal is vital for high-quality broadcasts and complex digital signal routings. Oftentimes, a studio may need to feed digital signals over very long distances, resulting in significant loss.

To address this issue, the F611 sports AGC amplifiers to produce 4 Vpp output signals, more than enough to cover extremely long cable runs while maintaining optimal signal integrity. All I/O is balanced and both the inputs and outputs feature transformers for ensuring ideal signal strength, even allowing the unit to recover (regenerate) lost signal strength when receiving weak input signals.

The F612 is a rack-mountable distribution splitter that can be a vital asset for any broadcast studio or recording facility. With two separate modules, the F612 can perform two important functions at the same time, distributing digital audio signals over long distances, and feeding S/PDIF sync data via wordclock or AES-iD to multiple destinations. These functions are aided by the following:

  • Jumpers for switching the output impedance from 75 to 50 ohms to drive improper wordclock inputs
  • Jumpers to switch to AES-iD operation
  • Jumpers that switch to Superclock 256 Fs
  • Unbalanced BNC sockets with high input sensitivity and output voltages
  • Clear LEDs for indicating if a module is active or no input signal is detected

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I plug a phantom power mic into the input and the mic is receiving phantom power from a pre-amp on the other side of the unit through output 1, will the signal of output 2 be the same level as output one? In other words, both outputs would be outputting an identical line level as the mic is already getting its power from output one? Thank you.

A: It may be marginally quieter on each than it would be w/o the splitter, but a phantom powered pre-amp is still only outputting mic level, not line level. Works for me w/ 300' on the out #2 to a production truck.

Q: 2. Does this adapter also work with the televid 77 spotting scope?

A: This product is merely a "T2" ring that allows you to connect a Leica M-series bayonet mount to a third-party lens with standard T2 thread or some sort of photographic accessory allowing you to attach the lens or accessory to a Leica M camera body. It does not mount to a Leica Televid. Years ago, Leica made an accessory, part # 42301 - SLR Photo Adapter for Leica Televid 77 / 62 that had T2 screw thread at the basal end (allowing mount of any camera body through use of T2 adapter). It replaced the eyepiece and converted the scope to an 800 mm, manual focus, fixed aperture telephoto lens. However these accessories were discontinued when these scopes were discontinued and replaced over a decade ago, so they are generally only found in the used market place. To mount an modern M with "live view" to an old Televid 77 you would need to find the 42301 somewhere AND use this T2 ring between the adapter and the camera body.

Q: 3. Is the impedance constant on the input side as you add more headphones/speakers to the outputs, or does the input need to be increased as more peripherals are added?

A: I bought two of these boxes to add additional two-channel outputs for connecting three digital recorders simultaneously from my mixer's main mix outputs. After connecting everything, I did not add additional input gain to the splitter boxes, but I did note that the three digital recorders required slightly higher recording levels than they did in their standalone configuration. Hope this helps!

Q: 4. The specs for this item list that it can be used with both aperture and shutter priority modes. One of the user reviews seems to imply that it only works in shutter priority. Can you please clarify as I am looking specifically for something to use in aperture priority?Thank you

A: This is a shutter priority only meter. The shutter speed is entered in full stops and the aperture reads in 1/10th stops. I have been collecting light meters for 30 years and find that this Kenko meter is better made than theMinolta it replaces. It is a fine and accurate meter that fits the hand just right.

Q: 5. What is the CRI for this Lighthouse?

A: As per the manufacturer, this product has a CRI rating of 90+ with a color temperature of 5600 Kelvin.

Q: 6. what do I need to attach the apo-televd to the Leica M240 and make into an 800mm lens? you were closed and could not use the 10% earth day. eugene

A: That adapter is specific for you to attach a Leica M series camera to one of these to spotting scopes, https://bhpho.to/2XWsYTZ And then you will need the eye piece.

Q: 7. I need to split my soundcard's main output (2 balanced 1/4'' - L & R) to 4 speakers. Can I use a 'Y' cable to hook a stereo 1/4'' into the input and use the JIBS 4 outputs to each speaker? I'll lose the balanced connection with the Y cable, though.

A: Dear all,We are interesting this products for 8 pcs. Please advise the stock status. Is this have stock available?BR,Shake

Q: 8. Is the lens-mount a standard T2, usable with any T-mount lens?

A: The Leica Digi-Adapter T2 for M Series Cameras is a standard T2 adapter designed to connect a Leica M-mount to any binocular, telescope, microscope, or lens that uses standard T-mount threads.

Q: 9. Which one is closer in color to procyc? The Chimera chroma green or the chimera digi green?

A: We would suggest chimera digi green for a better keying experience.

Q: 10. does this have spot metering ability and if so is it 1 degree?

A: The KFM-1100 can accept a 5 degree spotfinder, B&H # KEKFM100 , http://bhpho.to/18Gjvp0.

[Stainless Steel] A little pricy, but dead simple and easy to use.

[Stainless Steel] For some time I have been driving two spdif devices off one spdif output. One was about a 40 foot run of cheap audio coax type cable. I often had erratic audio performance at the end of the long line no doubt due to poor signal quality. I had considered building my own distribution amp but when I found this product at this price point it looked efficient to try it. The product is housed in a pretty nice small metal box. It's a little tippy on top of my stack of instruments but seems to work very well driving the short and long spdif runs. I also now have two more channels available to add spdif runs to other rooms also. Thanks you.

[Dark Gray] First find out if you need the impedance matching feature (many don't). That, being said this little guy is solidly built and reliable. We used it to split our mic out to a recorder and speakers (both had their own mixers).

[Dark Gray] I use this for sending a signal from a mic into two cameras on multicam shoots. It works like a charm, and is built like a tank.

[Dark Gray] This little baby changed the whole sound of the studio it was recommended by an electronics engineer. We plugged it on the BNC of the clock-in of a Yamaha 02R and this console rejuvenated ! Never thought a clock generator can do this amount of change amazing...

[Dark Gray] Tried BLA's clock on an avid VENUE SC48 and the difference is noticeable There was no way to connect an Lexicon outboard gear MPX1 to the console digitally if we didn't have the micro-clock Good investment

[Stainless Steel] We used 2 of these boxes, with Whirlwind sheilded Cat6a cable and couplings. Ran 300 feet between the 2. Had no issues. Clean sound. We also ran 1 channel of 3-pin DMX with audio running on the other 3 channels.
No problems! We love these.

[Stainless Steel] Needed to feed an AES-EBU signal to two inputs - this cable nailed it. Both sources are clocking perfectly, audio is pristine. Saved me the cost of adding more digital IO. Really handy.
