Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the Polsen MVP-6 or MVP-3 mics be mounted on a boom pole?

A: Yes, the Polsen MVP-6 Directional Shotgun Microphone can be mounted on a boom pole.

Q: 2. Will this work with an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II

A: Yes, the Polsen MVS-5 Stereo Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 3. On the last product photo it shows BOTH of the included cords have a 90 deg bend on both ends. But on all other photos, the 90 deg bend is only on one of the two ends. Which will I get if I order?

A: The Polsen MVP-3 comes with a TRS cable and a TRRS cable. Each cable has one side with a 90 degree bend and the other side is straight.

Q: 4. What do I need to connect this microphone to a windows PC (desktop)? Someone suggested "usb audio interface."

A: To connect the Polsen MVP-3 Micro Directional Shotgun Microphone for DSLR, Smartphones, and Portable Recorders to a computer, you would require an audio interface such as the Rode AI Micro (BH #ROAIMICRO).

Q: 5. Will this work with the Sony Vlog kit that's used with the Sony Pro-1 and some other Sony phones, since there's a 3.5 jack on the vlog monitor?

A: You need the Rode SC4 adapter.

Q: 6. Will this mixer work with 3-4 MVP-6 mics? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/746496-REG/Nady_MM_14FX_MM_14FX_4_Channel_Mini_Mixer.html/accessories

A: Because the Polsen MVP-6 Directional Shotgun Microphone for DSLR, Smartphones, and Portable Recorders requires plug-in power from its input source for operation, it would not be compatible for use with the Nady MM-14FX 4-Channel Mini Mixer with Echo Effects, which does not offer plug-in power. Typically, microphones like the MVP-6 are used on cameras, where plug-in power is commonly found from the camera input. The MVP-6 could, in theory, be used with a mixer offering XLR inputs with phantom power along with a phantom power converter such as the Rode VXLR+ (BH #ROVXLRP): https://bhpho.to/3L2t4BS

Q: 7. Is there any way to plug the Polsen MVP-6 into an iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Q: 8. will this work with an Android phone with USB C port? If so, how exactly?

A: To use the Polsen MVP-3 Micro Directional Shotgun Microphone for DSLR, Smartphones, and Portable Recorders with a USB C Android device, connect the included 3.5mm TRRS cable to an adapter such as BH #SATC35HPJAW Samsung USB Type-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter and then into the phone.

Q: 9. Will this microphone be good for wedding parties?

A: The Polsen MVP-3 Micro Directional Shotgun Microphone can be used to record audio at a wedding party when used with a DSLR camera, smartphone, or portable recorder. It is suitable for recording audio at a wedding party.

Q: 10. Is there a battery-level indicator or some way to know how much charge is left in the battery?

A: The mic has a power indicator LED, but that will not provide an accurate indication of how much charge is left in the battery. You could use a volt meter for an accurate reading. An easy way to keep track of the number of hours that the mic has been in use would be to write down your start and end times on a piece of paper and store it with the mic. Just keep in mind that the MVS-5 can run for up to 36 hours with a CR2032 Battery

[Cardioid] Use this on my Nikon DSLR when recording video. It fits great on the hot shoe and is the perfect size. The sound quality is also excellent. I haven't used it outside yet but I can't wait to use the fur parka wind screen cover. If it works half as good as it does silly it will be amazing!

[0.52 lb] I own a Rode VideoMicro and I was looking for a deadcat (furry windshield) for it because I shot a video at Lake Champlain a few months ago and the audio is essentially unusable because of the noise picked up by the mic without a deadcat. And looking for one, I found that the replacement piece made by Rode (Rode WS9 Deluxe Wind Shield) costs 25 dollars! Other knockoffs are about 10 bucks.

Later, I found this kit by Polsen for only 27 bucks! I mean, I did not need another microphone, but for basically 2 dollars, I got the deadcat I was looking for, plus a spare mic! That's a deal.
Now, in terms of quality of the sound; I tried them both and the sound quality is the same as the Rode or maybe a hair better. At least, it sounds a tiny bit warmer to my ears, which I like, but most of the work I do is indoors for my YouTube channel.
So, yes. Absolutely get this Polsen kit. Best value on the entire internet right now (as the time of this writing).

[Cardioid] For the money, I'm really impressed at the quality. I don't think there's a better deal out there on a sub$100 mic. I'd go for a Rode Videomic Go 2 over this, but I don't think I would choose any other mic under that price over this.

[Mono] Works great, much more sensitive than built-in mikes. And a great bonus is, even though I bought it primarily to use with a portable recorder; it also does well plugged into a smart phone.
Typical of B&H the product was packed well with no shipping damage and arrived as promised.

[Plug-In Power] Useful as a replacement for camera mic for event video. Sound improvement is definitely noticeable when stand alone mic's aren't feasible.

[Plug-In Power] Very lightweight directional mic. I have the Polsen MVP-3 also, which is a great run and gun cold shoe mount mic. But this one is more directional. This one could even be used for interviews if close enough to the subject, because the supercardioid pickup pattern does a good job isolated the sound to where you point the mic. The attached cable seems well thought out in that it is not too heavy to where you feel it is straining the connection. Also has a nice length to work with when on the cold shoe. I like that it works without a needed battery. This makes things easier in the field because you don't have to worry about replacing batteries, but still give a strong level IMO. It also has a switch to change between using it with a camera or a phone/ipad. This makes it very versatile. And by being super lightweight, it should be great with a gimbal or stabilizer. Seems like a solid, versatile, directional mic- especially at this price point. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

[End Address] I've been using this mic in the field for a while. I love that it doesn't require a battery, and therefore has no on-off switch. No more losing the audio because I forgot to turn on the mic!
The mic comes in a beautiful case that also includes a fluffy wind-screen that is very effective. After checking out the packaging and accessories, I was worried that the audio quality would be terrible, but even that was surprisingly good. The caveat is that I'm using this to record in the field and I'm not recording high fidelity audio.
I checked the polar pattern on the mic, and it does reject off-axis audio pretty well.
All in all, it was a steal for the price. It comes with everything you need to plug it in and use it under a wide range of conditions. For ambient sounds and voice, it's not noticeably worse than my Rode shotgun mic. It's really hard to find anything bad to say about this little guy.
If I had to say anything bad, I'd say the shock mount is probably going to break after extended use, but the entire kit cost less than most shock mounts, so I'll be gentle with it and hope it lasts a year or two. I'm very happy, overall.

p.s. I bought this for field work. I think it's best use is where you must travel light but still need an external, directional microphone with a wind screen.

[Cardioid] I love that this mic doesn't pick up the background or peripheral noise in the environment where I'm shooting. So great to just plug and play, not worry about battery life. Fantastic mic!
