Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what's the difference between semi-matt and pearl finishes?

A: Semi Matt is closer to a matt finish than it is to glossy (my observation/opinion). I have never seen pearl in a fiber base paper, only in RC, and that has a more radiant or iridescent look.

Q: 2. Can the FB paper be used with a ferrotype heat source?

A: Yes, you are able to ferrotype this paper.

Q: 3. What si the weight of tris product?

A: In terms of basis weight, this paper is 255 GSM. However as packaged (8 x 10", 250 sheets) the product is approximately 9.5 lbs.

Q: 4. Weight

A: This paper would be 255 gsm

Q: 5. is this is for silver gelatin printing?

A: Yes, the Ilford Multigrade FB Classic Matte Variable Contrast Paper (11 x 14", 10 Sheets) is designed for silver gelatin printing for traditional black & white darkroom usage needs.

Q: 6. how much does the box weight? txs

A: I think around 6 or 7 lb, including the box.

Q: 7. How can you get this paper to dry flat and lint free? I've tried a blotter roll (unsuccessfulj); and a heated plate dryer (better but imperfect).

A: Here is my cheap solution. Drain off most of the water (I don't even squegee), dry face down on screen overnight. When dry I put in my kitchen oven, set at 170F; I put the photo between two clean mat boards, with rigid cutting boards underneath and on top, and something heavy on top of it all. Leave in for 30-45 min. I then put it in a book with weight on it for 24 hrs., which keeps it flat. Heat plus pressure, just like a dry mount press. More work, yes, but cheap and no big, expensive press.Richard

Q: 8. Is this paper good for hand coloring photos?

A: It is warm in color. It will accept hand color inks well yes.

Q: 9. Is this paper and the photos printed on it archival?

A: To some degree, but to make any fiber bond print truly archival, you need to use the recommended dilution and recommended time in the tray for the brand of rapid selenium toner you have.Use proper ventilation and gloves when handling selenium toner. It gives me migraines even with minimal dilution. Use a surgical mask over your nose and mouth particularly if you have asthma or are chemically sensitive. Art Paper is fun to use, but do watch your selenium timer closely! This paper will give purplish, chocolate brown to reddish shifts the longer you leave it in. Hope that helps.

Q: 10. If processed ta archival standards, is this paper as archival as Ilford's traditional baryta fiber based papers?

A: Yes this paper would be archival when processed and stored properly.

[Neutral] Great for landscapes and still life, could be a bit more contrasty, but maybe it's me.

[Fiber Base] Would love to order this again, but each time I do someone in the shipping dept doesn’t know how to put a box around this box. The last time they shipped me one without a box around it. Six feet totally unusable! B/H policy? “We’ll take $50 off your order.”

[3.4 lb] I use this variable contrast paper for negatives of mine that may not be perfect exposure. I also use it for tinting or coloring with squab, pencil, oil stick, transparent oils. It is highly resistant to reworking the surface.

[Neutral] I'm very satisfied because the contrast is smooth in the strong picture. I'm glad I bought it again.
