Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this filter still including the plastic case? The other B+W filters come in a bag.

A: Yes, B+W 67mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter comes with a plastic case and protective foam.

Q: 2. Is this filter still needed to block UV Haze when using a Polarizer Filter?

A: A polarizer already reduces UV haze so B+W 52mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter is not needed then.

Q: 3. Does this filter still come with the case? There are dust issues with the other B+W filters?

A: Currently, the B+W 67mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter comes in a plastic case.

Q: 4. Is there a front and a back to the filters? Is there a specific way/ side that it needs to go on?

A: For B+W 82mm UV-Haze #010 MRC Basic Filter the front is the section that has the writing 010 UV-Haze MRC. That needs to face towards the subject, the back of the filter is what is screwed onto the lens.

Q: 5. Is this filter LESS durable that the version WITHOUT the additional Nano coating layer (66-66070222)? According to the information from Schneider Optics the maker of B+W filters: However, a surface structure in the order of nanometers would be mechanically extremely sensitive, if it could be manufactured at all with the required precision. Its cavities could fill up with very fine particles and their peaks could break off or be worn off so that the water-repelling effect is cancelled out there.

A: According to B+W, The nano coating is an outer layer of protection that comes standard with all XS-Pro Digital MRC filters. The nanotechnology based characteristic (lotus effect) produces a better beading effect with water making the cleaning of this filter even simpler and faster than ever before. MRC nano has an improved outer (8th) layer over regular MRC. That being said, non-Nano coated B+W filters still remain quite durable and you shouldn't have any issue in using them.

Q: 6. According to the write up: Note: This filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size, and because of this you may be unable to attach the lens manufacturer's bayonet-mounted lens hood to the lens while using this filter. This is dependent on your specific lens and how thick the front rim of the lens is; with thinner, low-profile lenses usually being affected more.So if I apply this model B+W on a Nikon 50mm 1.8G lens, will the Nikon lens cap and the Nikon lens hood snap onto the threads? Thanks.Del

A: I am using the 58mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter on a Nikon 50mm 1.8G lens. I have had no problems at all with the lens cap or hood when this filter is on the lens.

Q: 7. Will this work with the Tamron 70-200 mm f/2.8 and the Canon 17-55 mm f/2.8 lenses?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with both of these lenses.

Q: 8. This lists the filter as a 010M, but the photo f the filters shows 010. What is the difference?

A: 010M and 010 MRC Nano is the same thing. M stands for multi coating. The filter ring spells it out, instead of having the M after 010. No difference, means the same thing.

Q: 9. What is the thread pitch on this lens? Is it 0.5 or 0.75 mm?

A: As per the manufacturer, the thread pitch for the B+W 40.5mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC Nano 010M Filter is 0.75mm.

Q: 10. Will the lens hood on the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens fit on with this filter attached? I also noticed the disclaimer that it will not fit some lens with bayonet hoods.

A: I can now answer my own question, YES it will. I have now received & installed this filter and the lens hood fits over it w/o any problem.

[0.175 lb] The Polarizer is useful for eliminating unwanted reflections. The UV filter doesn't do much for digital cameras, they are a must have for film cameras. However it is a good lens protector and worth the money for that.

[Magnalium] I picked up a Sony PZ 18-105 F4 and needed a UV protector for an upcoming trip. The UV filter was perfectly clear. My photos from the National Cathedral and other places on the trip came out fine no matter what range I was on with the lens.

[UV] Bought this as part of a package with a Canon 35 f1.4 L series lens. Works as advertised.

[Glass] No exposure degradation whatsoever, better than my old B+W filter IMO.

[Magnalium] Bought this filter for a 28mm Leitz Biogon lens on a range finder camera. Density scale in the lens makes it a snap to use -- not to mention that it's absolutely necessary to have it since one is not looking through the lens to see how much polarization one is getting.
