Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this Lens compatible Sony F Nex 100, which is not a DSLR?

A: It is, it's an e mount

Q: 2. Whats the difference between the MK II lens and the normal 12MM? Does it use ED glass like the Cine Version?

A: According to the manufacturer, the five (5) main differences between the original 7artisans Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Lens and the new 7artisans Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Mark II Lens for Micro Four Thirds are the following: (1) the appearance, optical design, and structure of the lenses are different; (2) the minimum focus distance of the original lens is 0.2 meters (7.87 inches), whereas the minimum focus distance for the Mark II lens is closer at 0.15 meters (5.9 inches); (3) the new Mark II lens adds options for the Nikon Z and Canon EOS R lens mounts; (4) the original lens did not support the use of filters, whereas the Mark II supports 67mm filters; and finally, (5) the new Mark II lens has improved image quality with increased edge resolution and reduced overall distortion. Unfortunately, 7artisans did not mention the presence of ED or aspherical glass elements.

Q: 3. May we use it on a Panasonic GH5? What we need extra to fit onto a GH 5?

A: No, the Nikon 1 version cannot fit on the GH5, however if you get the micro four thirds version it will fit on the GH5 and that is without an adapter.

Q: 4. Highlights says 18mm info says 12mm. Which is it?

A: The 7artisans Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Mark II Lens for Sony E would have the focal length equivalent of an 18mm lens used on a full frame camera.

Q: 5. Is there a comparable FX lens to this DX lens?

A: 7artisans do not have a Macro lens in the Full Frame FX format. There are other options, but nothing from that company. Please check this link for available Full Frame FX lenses for the Nikon Z-Mount. https://bhpho.to/3w5FP6Q.

Q: 6. Will this lens work on full frame cameras?

A: No, it will not. The Opteka 12mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon EF-M, B&H # OPTM1228C, is designed for use with the smaller Canon EF-M lens mount, and is not compatible for use with the larger Canon EF lens mount. If you are looking for an inexpensive full-frame 12mm lens for use on the Canon EF lens mount, the Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount, B&H # SA12F28FFFLC, would work for your usage needs. I personally feel the best option would be the Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Canon EF (Black), B&H # VE1228CEF, at the 12mm focal length.

Q: 7. Does the focus ring direction match that of the Fuji native lenses such as the 16 mm 1.4 or is it backwards?

A: The Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR Lens focuses infinity to the right like Nikon. The Opteka 12mm f/2.8 Lens for Fujifilm Xfocuses infinity to the left like Canon.

Q: 8. Does Photoelectric mean, the lens adds EXIF data to photos?

A: Photoelectric is just a brand name. 7artisans Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Mark II Lens for Canon RF does not add EXIF data to the photos unfortunately.

Q: 9. Will this work autofocus and auto on a D5300??

A: This lens is fully manual and does not offer any autofocusing system.

Q: 10. I see that this lens is meant for Nikon CX platform. Any chance for DX? Specifically the D5200

A: No, this lens is not designed for use with Nikon DX cameras, it is intended for use with the Nikon 1 system.

[f/16] You do realize that the lens has a 49mm filter thread for filters so if you actually lost the lens cap you could buy a 49mm lens cap for about $2 and pop it straight on.

[Manual Focus] I was essentially looking for a cheap lens that would look kind of dated on purpose. Like a 90s film vacation photo. There’s a beautiful but subtle vinietting in the corners which makes every photo look a bit nostalgic. This is my favorite lens I own because despite its low price it’s also very reliable and creates beautiful images. It’s low profile so it keeps my a6600 from becoming too bulky and makes for a great every day lens.

[f/2.8] I tend to only buy Nikkor lenses but Nikon doesn't have a Z-mount prime in this focal length yet. It is manual focus which does not matter to me. Very well made and solid with a nice design. Sharp and light. The price was right so I thought I would take a chance, glad I did.

[f/2.8] This a review of the 7artisans Photoelectric 60mm f/2.8 Macro Mark II lens. I do not understand where the photoelectric reference is referring to, but it is, indeed, a fine lens.

It's fully manual and the focus and aperture rings are smooth and have quality feel. Overall, the lens is well built and solid.

Ou can still use it for distance photography, the throw of the focus ring is very short at those distances.

I'm very happy with this lens, B&H ships quickly and for macro use, you cannot beat it.

[1.09 lb] Works great for a manual lens on my Fujifilm X-S10. Was surprised when camera body was able to give accurate exposure in auto!!!! Don't need to carry around a light meter with this combo!mThis lens is light but well made. Great glass gives sharp images!

[5] I bought this lens to dive into macro photography, but also for product photography. I was a little overzealous with the focal length, you can't get much more than a quarter into frame on the 1:1 focusing.

The focus is great on this, slow, deliberate and smooth. It has just the right amount of tension in it to nail the focus without going back and forth. However, it's a pretty shallow depth of field. Even on F/11, your focal depth is short.

Aperature ring is de-clicked, which for macro or product photography I think is keen. You can dial in exactly how much you want or anything in between. It helps when trying to balance out all your other settings.

Overall this is an awesome little lens for it's price. Is there slight chromatic aberration, yes. Is there better lenses out there, yes. Are there sharper macro lenses, again yes. However you're looking at this lens and if you are, you aren't looking at those very expensive lenses.

[Manual Focus] I recently started a project photographing old buildings in Georgia and needed a wider lens than my 18nn f/2.8. I saw the price on this one took the plunge. This lens has a wide field of view and it shows very little distortion or vignetting. It is solidly made of metal and very nicely finished. The focus ring has a short throw and is very smooth. The aperture ring has no clicks but has enough resistance that it is not easily knocked out of adjustment. I am very satisfied with this lens and would recommend it without hesitation.
