Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. better than at875?

A: The AT897 is slightly more directional due to the length of the tube, as well as the option to self power via AA battery. These would be the major differences.

Q: 2. Does the lav have a TRS connection or a TRRS connection? The images look as if it's TRRS but the shotgun has TRS.

A: The lavalier microphone included with the SmallRig Forevala S20 On-Camera Shotgun/Lavalier Microphone has a 3.5mm TRRS connector. The input and output connectors on the S20 Shotgun Mic are both 3.5mm TRS.

Q: 3. Does this mic work with plug-in power or strictly by battery?

A: The Audio-Technica ATR6250 is powered strictly by AA battery.

Q: 4. Can I use line level signal on the AT897?

A: It only has an XLR out, so it will be a mic level output. It does have a spot where you can put a battery in, if you do not have phantom power in your recorder though.

Q: 5. Slide switch up or down for phantom power ?

A: Neither. The switch is a low cut filter. If a AA battery is inside of the microphone, you do not need phantom power. If there is no battery inside, then you need phantom power.

Q: 6. hi, is this a new model? I couldn’t even find it on the manufacturer’s website?

A: The SmallRig Forevala L20C Lavalier Microphone is not an especially new model.

Q: 7. What is the warranty on this used C414 XLII?

A: The C414 XLII Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone you are referencing is brand new and includes a 1 year warranty from AKG.

Q: 8. How can i know what kind of off brand lavalier microphone can be screwed in this transmitter?

A: The Comica Audio CVM-WM200C PRO transmitter is compatible with lavalier microphones which have Sennheiser-style locking connectors.

Q: 9. I’m shooting a film on an iphone. Is there a way to connect this mic with the phone?

A: The Saramonic LC-XLR Female XLR to Lightning Microphone Adapter Cable for iOS Devices (B&H # SALCXLR) can be used to connect the AT897 to your iPhone You will need to use a battery to power the mic since the iPhone can not supply phantom power. The other options for cables are the Saramonic SR-XLR35 XLR Female to 3.5mm TRRS Microphone Cable for DSLR Cameras and Smartphones (B&H # SASRXLR35) combined with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP). The MXL Female XLR to 3.5mm Male TRRS and 3.5mm Female TRS Multimedia Adapter Cable for Select Dynamic Microphones (B&H # MXMMCABLE) provides a 3.5mm TRS headphone tap which allows you to monitor the sound while recording. This cable can also be combined with the Apple Lightning adapter for use with an iPhone.

Q: 10. When connected to a laptop Windows PC will it disable /take over the internal PC microphone input? In other words can it be used *only* for output DA conversion?

A: When connected to your computer for recording, you will need to go to computer's System Preferences for audio and select the SSL 2 as your input device during your setup and that will disable the computer's internal microphone. You should also select the SSL 2 as your audio output device in order to disable the built-in speakers and prevent issues with feedback from your mic picking up the sound of the internal speakers. You will be able to monitor the audio through headphones or speakers that are connected to the SSL 2. Here is a link to the user manual which will provide more details on setup and operation of the SSL 2: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/594696.pdf

[Omnidirectional] I bought the mic for field recordings to make ambient backgrounds. It does the job well. It is not at all hyped, which is a most useful character in a mic to be used for this purpose. Neither is it noisy, The stereo separation is decent. If I lost this one, I would buy another.

[Omnidirectional] I use this for ambient recordings - I'm usually recording as part of gathering material for video, and so I have enough gear without a multiple-mic stereo setup. This offers a pleasing stereo image, low noise for getting quieter ambient sounds, and nice response for, say, rain drops hitting bricks with thunder rumbling in the background. It doesn't have a drop-out in the center, so a car passing doesn't sound weird. Perfectly natural stereo effect. Fits in a Rycote Baby Ball Gag - I should buy a real blimp, but that seems like one more big thing to pack, and I've been happy with the BBG so far. I'm quite happy with this mic - good balance between quality and portability/ease of use. I have stuff I've bought in the past that I end up not using because it's a pain, but this one is already working its way into my flow.

[Omnidirectional] I really like the sound quality of this microphone -- it works well with my Tascam 100 MKii, and the length of this shotgun is perfect. I can fit all my gear perfectly into a small backpack. The sound is bright and clear, and is my go-to for interviews and even voice-tracking.
