This 4-stop, 4 x 5.65" Neewer ND Filter 4x5.65 4-Stopfrom Neewer ND Filter 4x5.65 4-Stopadds neutral density across an entire image area for finer exposure control. Increasing neutral density offers more flexibility in available shutter speeds or aperture settings for both still and video applications. Using a longer shutter speed makes it possible to increase blur to convey a sense of movement. Increased density also makes it possible to shoot using wider lens apertures, helping to isolate a subject from the background.

This filter is made of optical glass for sharpness and features 30 layers of multicoating for optical light and color transmission. It also has a waterproof and scratch-resistant coating for use in harsh locations and easy cleaning.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. with an ultra-wide angle lens (i.e. Canon 16-35mm F4L with a full frame camera), do you get the dreaded X show up and if so at what density does it show up?

A: The X you can sometimes pick up in the image with a variable ND filter is caused most of the time by variable ND filters that go over 7-8 stops and lower quality ones. The B+W filter is fine. The one thing you might pick up is when set to the widest setting on that lens, 16mm you might pick up some vignette. And that is going to happen with that lens with most filters because of how wide it can go. The filter is designed with a thinner frame so it should be somewhat minimal.

Q: 2. Will this filter fit into a tiffen 4x4 holder?

A: This filter is a 2mm filter. The Tiffen works with 4mm filters. This filter would be at risk of falling out.

Q: 3. Is this a hard stop filter where it goes from 2 to 5 and then it can't proceed further ?

A: The rotation of the filter is smooth. It does not click as you rotate it. It also stops rotating once you reach the maximum or minimum density.

Q: 4. does this affect colors in any way? does it desaturate colors as those cheaper ND filters?

A: Hi my friend, this is a nice piece of glass, for Shure you will have some impact in your color results. Minors, but they will be there. No free lunch. To be a variable in one piece you sacrifice something. Specially because it is affect the luminance that is very very important to color. But don't worry, you can easily fix at post, for video or photography. Best

Q: 5. Has anyone tried the Variable 82mm on a sony 16-35GM2.8? I want to know if you saw any vignetting or any issues with it. I know the 24-70gm also has the same filter thread so I was wondering just how wide you can go with the filter beefore vignetting.

A: Today's Polarizers from quality manufacturers are all made to be thin to avoid vignetting on wide lenses. This one from B+W has the coveted Thin Brass Filter Ring. You will be good.

Q: 6. What is the resolving resolution on these filters?

A: where did ou read about this? seems not related

Q: 7. Is there any reason this can't be stacked on a B&W 77mm ND1.5 to get an effective variable 1.8-3.0? Will that cause any unexpected issues with artifacts or the dreaded X, etc?

A: I believe this should be possible. The only concern would possible corner vigneting when using a wide angle lens. Dan

Q: 8. Preventing light leaks: Gasket available? Seal built in to holder?

A: you can try this BH #FOFG3P85

Q: 9. Can this filter be used on wide angle lenses for example Sigma 10-20mm? I have tried cheaper alternatives with extremely poor results. Uneven darkening and camera (Pentax K-7) metering failing resulting in gross underexposure.

A: I've tried only 2 variable ND filters: this B+W one and a similar one by Genustech. Non-variable ND filters have fewer problems. From what I've read, most of the variable ND's, like the Genustech, have the shortcomings you describe. This B+W does not. It is consistent in how it transmits light across the whole filter without the usual cross artifact that darkens the image unevenly. I use this filter mainly for video with large sensor cameras; my only qualm with the filter is that it doesn't get dark enough for very bright scenes and that's partly due to my lowest ISO rating being 400. So I have to stop down the lens anyway, just not as much, but more than I'd like to. I can't vouch for no vignetting on a 10mm super wide lens. I get no vignetting at 17mm focal length on my 17-55mm Nikon zoom. B+W's engineering and build quality is usually superior to the rest.

Q: 10. Will it fit in Lee 100 and Nisi V6 filter holders?

A: Yes, they are all 2mm thick and will work with each other.

[0.7 lb] I think 3 stops is a good middle ground.
I use this with a lower range VND. Cheap way to get more range.
