Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this advice install on RRS Ballhead?

A: Yes, it has a 1/4-20 or 3/8" threaded hole to attach.

Q: 2. My L-brackets and other mounts are all Kirk brand. Is this mount compatible?

A: Yes, the Arca-Swiss Monoball Macro-Table Classic uses the better Ara Swiss style plates like the ones by Kirk.

Q: 3. Does it fit into my Arca-Swiss d4 Tripod Head with a Classic Knob Quick Release? As I would like to change it to fliplock

A: The original quick release clamps on Arca-Swiss heads such as the D4 are attached without the intent to be user-interchangeable. There are reports of damaged clamp-attachment screws from those that have tried removing the clamps. We recommend leaving the original clamp attached.

Q: 4. I have many arca-Swiss mono ball fix camera plates. Can this I use this flip lock quickset device with the monoball plates? Also interchangeable with classic plates or has to be adjusted manually every Time?

A: The plates are interchangeable. They should be the same size, but I would always check to make sure they are snug before you let go of the camera equipment.

Q: 5. What's the benefit and/or difference between the FlipLock release and the Classic Knob release?

A: When using the FlipLock release, one is able to mount a quick release plate and lock it in place in literally two seconds, and it is secure. To release a mounted plate, the FlipLock allows for a very fast release. When using the Classic Knob release, one needs to be careful to wind the knob, and wind a bit more to make sure it is tight and will not move. This process could take up to 20 seconds, and the user may go back to check the tightness, over and over again during the project. Using the Classic Knob release to release the plate is easy and fast . One just needs to unwind.

Q: 6. Hi Can RRS L Plane work on this clamp system?

A: yes, RRS L plate is according to the Arca-Swiss Quick Release System, so it fits for the ballhead. This ballhead you can adjust the width to clamp , please follow the manufacturer instruction.

Q: 7. Will this work on a Nikon D800?

A: Yes this will work for the D800. Just remove the 3/8ths thread.

Q: 8. What's the minimum distance between bolt centers possible with this plate?

A: The minimum distance between bolt centers is about 8mm.

Q: 9. does it allow vertical use?

A: Yes, the Arca-Swiss d4 Tripod Head with a FlipLock Lever Quick Release does allow for vertical use. The specifications for this head : Vertical Tilt -40° to +90°

Q: 10. with the bubble level to your left, which direction doI turn the adjustment knob to open the clamp? clock wise or counter clockwise

A: The spirit level is in the rear, where it can be easily seen.Arca Swiss places the quick release clamp on the left side so that you can hold your camera with your right hand. Most cameras have a grip on the right, making this a more convenient and safer location than most quick release systems. There is no tightening knob for regular use on the Arca Swiss quick release system. The quickset has a two movement release. The first movement loosens the plate for tilt balance adjustment, but doesn't release the plate for safety. The second movement releases the plate. There is an adjustment knob under the plate if the flip lock movement gets loose.YouTube has excellent videos demonstrating the Arca Swiss quickset mechanism.

[360°] This is my second Arca-Swiss head. They are beautifully crafted, compact, and solid. Just wish they where more easily repairable. My last one lasted 3 years and Arca-Swiss tried to repair with limited success. I'm a location shooter so things are always in transit and get used hard.

[Bull's Eye] I've never owned a ball head or gear head. For years if been using the heads that come with "cheap" tripods and those did the job. Although they did require a lot of small of adjustments during shoots which at the time were nothing. That is until I pulled the trigger and got this beauty. I was nervous spending so much on this one equipment but I can tell you now with confidence that this piece of well engineered equipment is one of the better purchases you'll make regardless of your shooting style.

Make adjustment after I've composed my shot is now a breeze! All I do I turn a knob to ensure my lines are parallel and camera is straight! It's amazing!

I would definitely recommend it!

[24.3 oz / 690 g] As other reviews have mentioned its a very compact and a very precise geared head. Adjustment knobs are a bit stiff initially. My Arca plates all have the same width so I had to adjust the width of the clamping device only once using the online video. In my opinion the fliplock locking device is definitely a safer and more secure way of attaching mounting plates.

[360°] Best photo head for landscape, panoramic, still, and especially macro photography. Outstanding piece of equipment. WORTH EVERY PENNY! Built solid and with the greatest precision. Lightweight, yet it handles the longest and heaviest of lenses (400-800) with ease and ABSOLUTELY no drift. SIMPLY OUTSTANDING! I shoot flowers and this has enhanced my cropping and critical focusing. A MUST HAVE for my work.

[360°] I don't know how I did without this in my 33 year career. Best tripod head I have ever owned.

[360°] This i a solid shoe. I had the Manfrotto style and it has a play to it but not Arca Swiss! The second release is a bit awkward by design so you don't accidentally unlock your camera. Still i wish there was another way just as safe. But SOLID it is.

[1.91 lb] I used this to replace an RC2 type mount on an older Manfrotto ball head. The original Manfrotto mount had not only the center mounting screw; but another offset screw that would prevent the plate from rotating, in case the center screw loosened. This plate only has the center mounting screw hole; but the screw from the old tripod fit perfectly. Tightening this screw firmly is probably sufficient; but just to be sure I found a 1cm metric screw at a local hardware store that was jus the right length to install into the old screw hole in the ball head mount without sticking out the bottom very far. (A long screw might interfere with rotation of the head). I filed the head of the screw to about 5mm wide, so that the head would fit into the slot across the bottom of the Arca-Swiss plate. This screw will prevent the plate from rotating, in case the center mount screw loosens. This is not as safe and secure as the original Manfrotto mount; but it should be fine and at least will make the system temporarily useable, until one can take time to re-tighten the center mounting screw. I had to loosen the thumb screw adjustment on the Arca-Swiss mount a bit to make it easier to slide in the camera adaptor plate. It is still a bit tight and could possibly be loosened a bit more. This system is definitely not as fast a quick change camera mounting system as the Manfrotto RC2 system; but it does feel like a more secure mount. I have to say that I have used the Manfrotto RC2 system for years without any problems, so maybe changing to this system was not a necessity; however, this might make it easier to upgrade to other camera mounting accessories, such as an L plate. I also like the secure locking system that requires the little button to be pulled back to release the lever and this button is located such that an accidental unlock is very unlikely, whereas the Manfrotto system might be easier to accidentally be unlocked.
