A: This would be great for a mic and boom pole. It is also MUCH lighter than a C-Stand. However, it is still very tall when collapsed. It won't fit in any of my light stand bags.

A: I use mine for speedlites. I wouldnt feel comfortable using this for an alien bee 13 in the air (especially not with a PLM) but if youre just looking for something with flexibility in height, then yes.

[Round] I purchased this stand to serve as a tall microphone stand. The base is wide and the weight of the unit is enough that I don't feel nervous about it or that additional ballast is necessary. The largest section diamater is 35 mm or about 1-3/8; the smallest diamater is 25 mm or about 1. In addition to the hand-tightening knobs, there is an allen-key set screw at each section (key included). 5
