Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the screw size for mounting the camera or head to the Acebil MP-285C?

A: This monopod has a reversible stud that provides a 1/4-20 or 3/8"thread.

Q: 2. Min height is 25" or 17"? It says both. Then again for some reason the Carbon version says its 17" too.

A: The height range of this tripod is 25.2 to 58.3 inches.

Q: 3. Can anyone tell me the different between MeFoto's GlobeTrotter and RiverRoad series. They're priced within $50 of one another, an almost meaningless difference if there are serious quality differences?

A: The MeFOTO RoadTrip will support 17.6 lbs and get to a height of 61.6 vs. the MeFOTO GlobeTrotter which will support 26.4 lbs and 64.2

Q: 4. Does the Acebil MP-285C monopod have a rubber foot or steel spike?

A: The Acebil MP-285C has a rubber foot.

Q: 5. Is this tripod stable enough to support a Canon 5DMKIII + Canon battery grip + Canon 70-200mm F2.8 II with its legs fully extended? My shooting scenarios can range from controlled studio environments to gusty mountaintops, both short and long exposure.

A: Justin, I have used this tripod on travels with the exact gear in your question, as well as with a Canon 100-400L with extender on safaris. It works great for being a light but strong tripod and it's quality for the price is hard to beat. It is a great travel tripod becuase of the size and weight and it covers 90% of my needs. If I need something with more strength and ruggedness, I reach for my Manfrotto but I wouldn't want to carry it too far. However, If you are going to be doing a lot mountain wilderness shoots, in gusty winds, i would look at a stronger, sturdier tripod from Manfrotto or others bult for these rugged conditions, with more leg adjustments but with a much higher cost as well.

Q: 6. In regards to the tandem connection of both a laptop tray and camera, could this even be advisable? From a perspective of camera stability, I mean...

A: It depends on the camera and lens you are using. If you are using a 100 megapixel camera and a 70-200 lens and are cropping in at 100% to check on maximum sharpness than it won't be advisable. I would recommend getting a very heavy and strong tripod kit and separating it from the laptop. But if you have a 24mm lens on a 20 megapixel camera and are not cropping in to 100%, then this LeoFoto will work well with a strong and heavy tripod.

Q: 7. Just double checking - do this come ready with plate for camera? I am shipping to my travel destination, so need to ensure I can mount my camera out of the box! :-)

A: Yes, it does.

Q: 8. Why is the carbon fiber Titanium colored option cheaper in price?

A: Its normally the same price. Not sure why its being sold at a lower price.

Q: 9. Are the legs carbon fiber?

A: Yes the legs on this tripod are carbon fiber.

Q: 10. What is the point of the drag control knob when the head locking knob seems to control drag as well, and both need to be unlocked to rotate the head?

A: The drag control allows you to easily move the head while keeping it steady, this can be very useful if you don't have a gimble head and want to use it for tracking birds in flight.

[2] I looked at many tripods in the B&H store, tried many of them and ultimately settled on this one. The features I like about it are:

- Smooth-operating ball head
- Carbon fiber construction
- Twist locks rather than latch
- Sturdy, supports my A7RII with 24-70 2.8 lens very well and could support much more
- Hard rubber feet with a pointed tip on the end avoid having to screw/unscrew rubber covers on metal spiked feet on many other tripods

My only reservation about this tripod would be that can take slightly longer to set it up than I'm used to. There are more steps involved since the way this tripod folds into its most compact form is by the legs folding all the way upward to meet the head of the tripod, which also means that the center column needs to be fully extended to get maximum portability. That being said, you have the option to fold it this way or to fold it the more traditional way, with the legs folding down to meet the center column.

Overall, this is a great tripod and very much worth the cost.

[Carbon Fiber] Before buying this tripod, I wasn't a big tripod user and, when I needed one, used a travel tripod that very much valued portability over stability. After going on a photography tour in which everyone else had a better tripod, I realized I needed to up my game. The MeFOTO Globetrotter is a massive improvement over what I had. The twist locks are big and easy to use with my large hands. The ballhead is easy to adjust, with no drift once everything is tightened. I have not yet had any stability issues, although I have not used it in very windy conditions. It packs up well to go in my checked bag when traveling. I chose the green version so that, when on photography tours, I can easily pick out my tripod from among all the black tripods in the back of a van. I highly recommend this tripod if you're after a decent tripod to take on your travels.

[Ground] I've been using Leofoto products for the past few years and initially I was skeptical about their products but, after purchasing a Mr. Q Tripod and Ballhead I was convinced that they're making quality products at a fraction of the prince of their competitors. This Horizontal tripod arm kit is so elegant but functional. I'm able to attach it to my tripod and able to mount a couple of cameras directly onto the arm or attach some ballheads. I like that you can tilt and swivel in many different angles. If you're in the market for a Tripoms Arm kit, look no further than Leofoto.

[Carbon Fiber] Due to the failure of my E-Image legs I was in the market for a new base. This tripod has a mid-spreader which is nice. Coming from a floor spreader, I wasn't quite sure how I would like the mid-spread, but it works well. Solid construction, not quite at the higher end range of build quality, but definitely acceptable. It was shipped to me in about a week after ordering. I would buy again if I were looking in this price range, but the next tripod we buy will most likely be in the upper range. A good buy.

[Carbon Fiber] Incredible value. Very well made and as smooth on pans and tilts as my Sachtler FSB-8, but holds 14 lbs more and is way, way less expensive than the Sachtler equivalent.

[Carbon Fiber] I would probably buy another one of these but it's a bit heavier than I like. Very strong and sturdy.

[Carbon Fiber] It goes where monopods are welcome and a tripod stability is best. The design gives me the easy one leg performance also the steadiness of a tripod. This is the support I need. With the included case it is convenient and lightweight. I am pleased with this purchase. You should see it yourself.

[Ground] I have several MeFoto tripods(Roadtrip, Globetrotter Air, Backpacker) this is my favorite, I use it for travel, maybe not as small or lighter then some others, but I know this is going to do the job, It's sturdy enough for a DSLR or mirrorless set up with a long lens.

[Carbon Fiber] Acebil: amazing, lightweight legs at a breakthrough price. Tripod heads, not so hot. Sachtler: amazing, smooth heads that will last forever, legs WAY overpriced. Solution: Sachtler 100mm hear + Acebil 100mm legs = perfect tripod.
