DURec is an integrated digital recorder for all inputs and outputs directly to USB memory devices via the USB port. The Fireface UFX Series records on USB thumb drives or hard drives with up to 2TB capacity. The recording functionality is provided by the internal DSP, and is therefore independent from a connected Windows or Mac computer.

The Direct USB Recording converts the Fireface Series both into a stand-alone field recorder and a powerful multichannel live player for previous recordings, such as virtual sound checks. Live concerts, band rehearsals, or spontaneous jam sessions can be directly recorded and played back from the medium, even completely stand-alone, without computer or software.

The DSP-based TotalMix mixer allows fully independent routing and mixing of input and playback channels to all physical outputs. Independent stereo submixes, plus a comprehensive Control Room section, offer unrivalled monitoring capabilities and unsurpassed routing flexibility.

The integration of Room EQ adds room calibration to the RME eco-system, making your Fireface perfect for Immersive audio setups, including Dolby ATMOS. Room EQ consists of nine bands of fully parametric EQ, individual output delay, and volume calibration. Users can freely assign up to 20 Room EQs at once to any output(s) they wish, including stereo, headphone, and digital outputs for maximum flexibility. Settings can be input manually or imported using tools like Sonarworks or Room EQ Wizard.

Also added is a feature called Binaural Crossed. This functionality provides speaker emulation in headphones—perfect for mixing stereo or ATMOS in headphones. The Crossfeed function emulates speaker behavior in terms of channel separation, so the extreme-wide ambience experienced in headphones can be set in 5 stages.

This optional wired remote has been designed for direct access to the most frequently used actions and commands of TotalMix FX, being an indispensable tool in the studio's daily applications. Its extremely flexible configuration through TotalMix FX will simplify workflow and greatly increase the usability of the RME interface in most real world situations.

The ARC USB is a USB 1.1 (UAC1) MIDI remote control, natively compatible to Windows and Mac OS X. As soon as it is present in the operating system, TotalMix FX will detect it and communicate with it, without disturbing other remote controls. Therefore, it is also not necessary to switch the ARC USB on or off within TotalMix FX, it will just work.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this have phantom power? Also I see it records? Is it a multitrack recorder or just stereo?

A: This unit does not have built-in recoed capabilities- it intrfaces audio to a computer, which you could then record to.

Q: 2. Can you confirm that you can run all 24 analog outputs from the DAC at 192Khz simultaneously, and at what bit depth (24 or 32) ?

A: Yes, the MOTU 24Ao USB/AVB 72 Channel Audio Interface can run 24 analog outputs simultaneously. The analog outputs offer 32-bit trim in the DAC and are also adjustable in 1 dB increments.

Q: 3. Could the Bose T4S ToneMatch Mixer control two different Bose L1 model 2 at the same time?

A: The Bose T4s does have connection available for two L1 speakers, so you can use them for left and right. Here is the extra cable you can use, for a second speaker: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/744793-REG/Bose_42536_T1_ToneMatch_Audio_Engine.html

[4] Arrived from b and h quickly and was a great deal! Great quality converters, just enough analog inputs. The sound stage from monitoring is clear, I can pass through analog gear without degradation. Strong headphone amp. Perfect compact interface.

[1 RU] I use this with Logic Pro on a 2021 MBP for recording, monitoring, mixing, and mastering in both stereo and 5.1, mostly for scoring and soundtracking. It has a clear, open, sound that accurately represents even very subtle changes to mix, EQ, soundstage, or plugin settings. Mic Preamps sound sweet and clean and will let the character of your mic shine through. The build is solid, and the knob and buttons have a nice click to them. It has a dazzling number of inputs and outputs for its size, and TotalMix gives the user super powerful routing options. Once configured, TotalMix makes it easy to jump between stereo and 5.1. My only caveat is that this is a professional tool, and if you are relatively new to this line of work, there will be a learning curve to understand all of the options the interface has and the concepts behind TotalMix. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it, it is 100% worth it to take the time to learn, and RME has excellent tutorials. This interface will honestly represent what you play through it and will give you the power to create the recording you envision.

[1x Color LCD] I went from an Apogee to this RME and the stability, recall ability and routing functionality is amazing! I really love this thing!

[4] I've used Universal Audio, Apogee, Motu, and even Lynx interfaces over the years (30 years) - and I have now had this RME Ucx ii for two weeks, and I can see why RME owners are so loyal, and why these devices get great reviews - the stuff just works, and it's just so apparent how much thought went into the design. And the mic pres are actually no joke - they sound great, and they have tons of clean gain. I'm also pretty impressed by the quality of the DSP internal effects - I think the compression + delay/reverb sound great! The EQ? Eh, whatever... FabFilter.

No dropouts, no glitches, no hiccups. Obviously, it's only been a couple of weeks, but the fact that I feel the desire to write a review must show something, as there are plenty of other things I could be doing right now w my time, including music production work - which now feels that much more joyful.

Lynx is definitely one small step above conversion-wise, but honestly - the difference is pretty nominal. I use a Lynx Aurora (n) + an Api 2448 at work, and I feel the stuff is translating really well to this RME.

I purchased this UCX ii because I was using an Apogee Element at home, and they basically stopped supporting it and discontinued the product, and it works very poorly with a Macbook M1pro. Glitchy - slow - crashes. The RME sounds as good if not better than that and just works - not a single hiccup in 2 straight weeks of working with heavy sessions. For the size, this thing is a POWERFUL BEAST and has to be the best audio interface in its class.

If your thinking about expanding and portability isn't an issue, it may make sense to jump up to the UFX line, you get quite a bit more for another 1K.

Enjoy-

[1 RU] I have used a firefice ufx before this one, and i can say this new interface is the same quality, just less channels, therefore totalmix fx and digicheck make the big difference between this brand and all the others. Great job RME

[38 W] I wanted to update from my UA Arrow. Didn't really love UA sound or reliability. This thing sounds amazing! Some people complain about Totalmix setup, but I found it easy and intuitive. My Shure SM7B sounds clear and has enough gain to run it without mic booster. This thing is top notch!

[AC Input] If your Fireface dies, this will fix it - most likely.

No instructions supplied, but fairly obvious once opened. To open the unit: 8 screws on top, 4 screws on bottom sides - no need to do the four screws on bottom front attaching the face to the frame, 2 screws on each rack ear. Inside, 4 screws and washers attaching power supply to frame, 2 plugs on power supply. Should take about 15 minutes to do.

Take care with the small screws that can strip easily - find a small pointy Phillips driver and apply good downward force to keep the blade in the screw until it breaks loose. I found that my Swiss Army knife driver worked pretty well.

[1x Color LCD] I am delighted with this new ADAT to USB interface from RME. This unit is very new and many vendors were not even carrying it yet. Thanks to B&H for ordering it for me! I received delivery of this special order in less than 2 weeks. Prior to this piece of hardware becoming available it was difficult to find a device or interface with 4 ADAT inputs. Now I can bring 16 channels of audio at 24bit / 96khz into my Audio workstation or laptop. Note, while I like recording at 96 kHz, using a sample rate of 48khz will allow throughput of 32 channels of audio and increasing sample rate to 192khz will limit throughput to 8 channels. I am using the RME Digiface USB along an RME Babyface Pro which allows me to bring another 4 optical channels at the same bit and sample rate into my workstation. To control input from the Digiface USB simultaneously while using the Babyface Pro requires separate TotalFX software control windows for each device (the manual explains this in more detail). I am currently bringing in 8 channels from an Audient ASP880 preamp and will add another 8 channel preamp soon. One thing that definitely stands out, is how small and compact this device is...maybe less than a quarter of the size of the Babyface Pro. So it will not take up a lot of space on your desk or in your kit. Same excellent quality and function that I have enjoyed from RME in the past.

[1x Knob] I use this device in conjunction with Logic Pro on a 2021 MBP to record, mix, monitor, and master in stereo and sometimes 5.1, mostly for video soundtracks. It has a clear, clean, open sound that accurately reflects even subtle changes in mix and plugin settings. The accompanying TotalMix software has very powerful routing options, and once it is configured, makes it easy to switch between stereo and 5.1. For those relatively new to recording and mixing, be aware that this is a professional grade tool. For what it can do, it is very simple to operate, but you can expect a learning curve to absorb the concepts behind TotalMix. That doesn't mean not to buy it, it is completely worth taking the time to learn, and RME has outstanding tutorials. For more of a plug-and-play experience in Logic that will also deliver fine sound but with fewer input and routing options, look to Apogee.
