The black Series8 Cardioid Headset Microphone from Point Source Audio is designed for applications where more than one microphone is required, such as for live performances and recordings. The cardioid pattern of the microphone will pick up sound from one direction, so it can be focused on the sounds of the person wearing the microphone. The unit features a 4mm diameter microphone element that can be positioned at the corner of the mouth to maintain an unobtrusive appearance.

The microphone features a length-adjustable unbreakable boom that can bend up to 360° and includes flexible ear hooks for wearing the headset on the left or right ear. It offers optimal gain amplification before feedback and can handle sounds with a maximum SPL of 135 dB. The microphone can connect to a wide range of wireless microphone transmitters using its interchangeable X-Connector system. This particular unit comes with an interchangeable 4-pin mini connector for Shure and Line 6 transmitters. The microphone also comes with a foam windscreen, a body clip, and a storage box.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. These are sold with the new and improved x connector with teeth I trust?

A: Hello Pat, Yes you’ve got it! All PSA mics with X-Connectors are of the new “locking” design.

Q: 2. How long is the cable on this microphone? From end to end?

A: The length of the cable of the Point Source Audio Series8 CO-8WLh Omnidirectional High-Sensitivity Waterproof Lavalier Microphone (Sony, Beige) is 4' / 1.2 m.

Q: 3. Is it adjustable for the size of a 6-year old kid's head? if not can you suggest a headset for this age . many thanks.Bennet

A: We actually bought these microphones for a children's play to avoid entrusting 6 year olds to $400 countrymans. They are flexible, but there's no actual adjustment. We didn't have any fit issues with our kids though, and they worked perfectly for our application.

Q: 4. I would like to use this headset with Telex and Clear-com systems. Which headset and adapters should I get? Tks

A: The CM-i3 is available wired for TELEX or Clearcom systems. Please see the following link: http://bhpho.to/2fyyJS4 There is currently no adapter available from Telex to Clearcom. Adapters available can be found here. http://bhpho.to/2gD6ciS

Q: 5. What is TA4S?

A: I assume you meant TA4F-- this is the type of connector on this microphone. Pretty sure it is a Shure proprietary connector, so you would want a mic with this if you're connecting to a Shure wireless system. They are small, round, and have 4 pins. Sometimes they're used for specialty wired mics as well.

Q: 6. does this mic require phantom power? or "bias power?" thanks!

A: Because the Point Source Audio CM-i3-PH Intercom Headset with 3.5mm Plug is designed for use with iOS intercom applications, we can presume that if power is needed, it is powered via a small amount of voltage received through connection to an iOS device. This is typically between 2-5V and often referred to as "plug-in" power. The power specifications for the CM-i3-PH are not specified, and the microphone element is actually categorized as dyamic/self-powered, which may indicate that it does not require any power from its source connection.

Q: 7. Does this headset work under really loud environments like baseball, basketball and football stadiums?

A: This headset would work well in noisy environments. Please note, this headset has a 5 pin xlr male connection and is designed for use specifically with RTS stereo belt packs with a 5 pin xlr female connection.

Q: 8. Will this plug into a Shure blx1 h10 wireless transmitter?

A: Yes, the Shure PGA31 uses a TA4 connector which is compatible with the VLX1 transmitter.

Q: 9. Will this adapter allow me to connect a PS Embrace mic to a Sennheiser XSW transmitter?

A: No, that would not be possible. To be able to do that with a Point Source Embrace model, you would only need the one that is made for compatible with Sennheiser Evolution series transmitters like B&H # POEO8WLXSEBE for example.

Q: 10. What's in the box other than a storage box please?

A: The unit comes with a windscreen, clothing clip, storage box, a 4' cable, and an interchangeable 3.5mm locking connector for Sennheiser EW Series systems.

[1 to 10 V] Product was great. As is B&H sales and service. Did not fit my application but it was not what the clip was designed to do. I'm sure it would be fine for what its made for.

[Black] I'm extremely happy with my point source. The buds that come with it aren't my favorite but you can easily switch them out with Shure 215s without having to rerun the cable through the casing.

[4' / 1.2 m] Works great and is extremely comfortable. Better than the other head crushers out there. Only wish that the cable was a little longer.

[4' / 1.2 m] First thing Id like to mention, Ive used this headset for handheld camera operation on tv crews during some conventions and I dont own this headset(in the process of buying 1 for myself). And honestly I have no issues with it, its comfortable, its flexible, very reliable, and definitely wonderful when on camera. Now I do agree with the other review in that its practically not possible to hear anyone talking to you while wearing the headset with both ear buds in.  But that tells me it does its job very well.  I will say that when my grip is trying to talk to me when Im wearing this wonderful headset all I have to do is pop out 1 of the earbuds and problem of not hearing solved very quickly and its easy to put the in ears back in once out and they hold very well.  Now with all that being said, I will say that for me personally this headset works very well, but each person that is using this type of gear has to find what works best for them individually. For those like myself that this headset works great, its a worthy product. for those that its not great for them, another product will be better.  Hope this helps future buyers!

[Cardioid] My biggest issue with traditional broadcast headsets were the usability, being the lack of it. By the end of a show, the headsets would barely stay on my head because I was hot and sweaty. This headset is fantastic. I don't have to worry about it falling of. I can run with a steadicam and not have to pick up my headset after the shot. Highly recommend this.

[Black] This intercom headset is fantastic for long shows (ie. concerts, presentations, etc.). I work as a freelance camera operator, and when running handheld it's very useful to be able to hear intercom in both ears. With the standard headset, you would have to wear an earplug and single muff headset.

[Plug-In Power] I purchased this Intercom Headset to use with our system at church. I really like how I could use my custom in ear monitors with this headset and how comfortable it is to wear. On Christmas Eve, I had this on for over 10 hours as I directed two rehearsals and three services. The stage captain, executive producer, and video director all commented on how clear the audio was from the microphone. My only regret is that I didn't purchase this sooner!
