The beige CR-8S Cardioid Earworn Microphone from Point Source Audio is designed for high noise applications where more than one microphone is required such as for live performances and recordings. The cardioid pattern of the microphone will pick up sound from one direction, so it can be focused on the sounds of the person wearing the microphone. The unit features a 4mm diameter microphone element that can be positioned at the corner of the mouth to maintain an unobtrusive appearance.

The microphone features an unbreakable boom that can bend up to 360° and a flexible earhook that can be worn on either the left or the right ear. Alternatively you can utilize a dual-earset microphone clip to convert the earworn microphone so it can be worn on both ears for more support. The unit offers optimal gain amplification before feedback and can handle sounds with a maximum SPL of 135 dB. The microphone can connect to a wide range of wireless microphone transmitters using its interchangeable X-Connector system. This particular unit comes with an interchangeable 3.5mm locking connector for Sennheiser EW Series transmitters. The microphone also comes with a foam windscreen, a body clip, and a storage box.

Q: 1. will this work with a countryman mic??

A: It took me a while to find our old E6 to try. Yes, this headset will hold the countryman in place. The microphone is a bit looser a fit than the Point Source that it is made for and i didn't do exhaustive testing but it seems to me like it would hold up through a production. i took a picture but i don't see a way to attach it.

Q: 2. What's in the box other than a storage box please?

A: The unit comes with a windscreen, clothing clip, storage box, a 4' cable, and an interchangeable 3.5mm locking connector for Sennheiser EW Series systems.

Q: 3. If I have a set of custom in ear headphones can I use these with this headset/talkback mic for live productions?

A: The Point Source Audio CM-i3-5Ms is modular and ships with their EM-3 in-ears, but can be switched with earphones of the user's choice.

Q: 4. Does this work with Riedel systems?

A: The Point Source Audio CM-i5-4F In-Ear Intercom Headset with Noise-Canceling Boom Mic (4-Pin XLR Female) does have similar connectivity to some Riedel headsets, however, as it is specified for Clear-Com, we recommend confirming compatibility with either manufacturer to fully confirm.

Q: 5. Does this mic require any phantom power please?

A: This mic is designed with a connector for Sennheiser wireless transmitters, it does not require phantom power but does require voltage to operate 1 -10v which is provided by the transmitter.

Q: 6. can i use this to replace the lav mic on my Point Source Audio CO-8WD-XAT-BL CO-8WD Omnidirectional Waterproof Headset Microphone for Audio-Technica Wireless Transmitters (Black) so i don't have to replace the whole headset?

A: Yes, the Point Source Audio CM-i3-4F Intercom Headset with XLR-4F Connector is compatible with the Riedel Bolero Wireless Intercom.

Q: 8. Does anyone have a photo of that install tool they offer?

A: CIEMs have the MMCX connector, you can simply snap them on. If they use a different type of connector then you'll want to remove and replace the whole cable assembly.

Q: 9. I need to practically swallow the 831cW for it to pick up my voice. Is there a omni-directional mic that would work better? What am I doing wrong here?

A: We have not had that issue with our mic , it was purchased as an upgrade from the mic that came with our wireless unit. It was a big improvement . It has always been clipped on tie not the lapel. Cables are very sensitive on all units we have used so don't wrap them. A lot depends on receiver position & how much power you have for system.

Q: 10. Can someone tell me the difference between this lav mic and the AT829cW lav mic? They are both cardioid lav mics.

A: The AT831cW has a smaller and more compact profile than the AT829cW model.

[0.35 lb] I had never even heard of the brand before seeing them on the B&H site. I gambled and purchased 3 of them for an event that was 5 days away. I received them 2 days before the event so I had them for dress rehearsal and the event itself. The mics worked flawlessly and performed better than some mics that I have that are double the price of these! Awesome first impression of Point Source mics!! These make me want to try some of those ultra flexible CO-7s. :) 5

[0.35 lb] I bought this mic for my new Senn G3 wireless bodypack. I filmed an exercise video and the talent forgot they were even wearing it and I think it sounded great for the price. I was very happy with the size too...it is small and not very noticeable. .... It can only be used for the left ear as indicated. 5

[0.35 lb] We use them in a church for all the pastors. Being as how the economy is where it is we have had to cut cost. The CO-3 microphone is priced so we did not have to down grade quality for our sound system. You may want to use a foam wind screen the mike is rather hot. I would recomend this to any one needing this type of mike. 5

[0.35 lb] We have only used this once, but our congregation definitely noticed the difference. Everything was projected clearly with no noticeable distortion. Small enough to be inocuous, and not uncomfortable. The only concern that we have is if someone borrows it and unknowingly tries to bend the boom; not sure how adversely it may be affected. 5
