Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this device compatible with PCIE 2.0 slots?

A: The performance should be the same if you are not sending data to all four ports simultaneously. PCIe 2.0x4 = 2000 MB/s should allow near full performance from two ports simultaneously. If the card uses the ASM2142 (PCIe 3.0x2), then a single USB port can be 20% faster than a card that uses the ASM1142 (PCIe 2.0x2). The PCIe switch can convert the two PCIe 3.0x2 USB controllers to PCIe 2.0x4.

Q: 2. Does this card work inside Dell 7875 precision workstation? It does have one Gen 5 x16 PCIe lane.

A: Yes, the HighPoint Rocket 1608A PCIe 5.0 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe Switch AIC is compatible with the Dell 7875 Precision Workstation.

Q: 3. Does this have DRAM?

A: No, the Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 Internal SSD does not have DRAM.

Q: 4. Is this SSD compatible for installation in a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)?

A: Upgrading a 2014 MacBook Pro to an NVMe SSD like the Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 Internal SSD is a fairly complex process, and as such this would only be recommended for experienced users who know what they are doing. More information can be found here: https://bhpho.to/3Qt9zbk

Q: 5. Using PCIe 3.0 on a PCIe 2.0 slot (bottle neck): Would there be any performance advantage over the PCIe 2.0 card?

A: PCIe 3.0 is double the speed of PCIe 2.0

Q: 6. Does this card provide ample power, not having a seperate power connection?

A: The RocketU provides the rated amount of power for any standard USB 3.1 Gen2 ports and devices. .

Q: 7. Which ASMedia chip does this card use?

A: The manufacturer has not specified in the documentation, however the chip is similar, if not newer than the ASMedia ASM2142.

Q: 8. Does this card work inside Dell 7875 precision workstation? It does have one Gen 5 x16 PCIe lane.

A: Yes, the HighPoint Rocket 7608A PCIe 5.0 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe RAID AIC will be compatible with Windows workstations/servers that have an available PCIe 5.0 x16 lane and at least 82.64 W of power available for the card.

Q: 9. What's the maximum throughput?

A: Rocket series NVMe HBAs such as this 1508 8-Bay M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe 4.0 x16 Adapter Card are capable of fully saturating x16 lanes of 4.0 host bandwidth.

Q: 10. Specs specifically do NOT mention compatibility with USB 3.0. Is it the case that this card is not compatible with 3.0?

A: The HighPoint RocketU 1344A 4-Port USB 3.1 Gen 2 PCIe 3.0 x4 HBA Controller Card B&H # HIRU1344A supports all previous generations of USB. It is compatible with USB 3.0, 2.0 & 1.0.

[1x Fan] This cable works with all types of U.2 drives when connected to a slim line SAS connector on the motherboard, HBA, or RAID card. It is universally compatible with Highpoint HBAs, other HBAs, or direct connection to the CPU. Speeds on the drives I have connected using this cable meet their full advertised speed.

[Low Profile] This is the best PCIe 16x housing you can find. I use it for Highpoint's SSD71xx RAID cards and am getting very fast read/write speeds. As I can control the fans with their software, the unit is extremely quiet.

[1x Fan] I use it in my 2019 Mac Pro with 4x2TB m.2 SSDs from Samsung. The passive cooling works great, I see consistent write/read speed rates in continuous heavy use and the drive is silent.

[Low Profile] Just snap it into place. It works great. I have 3 of the 4 ports in use already and they work great.

[1x Fan] Easy installation, no problems plug and play. Each port is self powered so you can use devices that require more power. I used it to upgrade a older computer, NEF files are not getting any smaller.

[Low Profile] Nice low profile to fit a server and it is thin.

[1x Fan] Great mechanical design makes it easy to setup, and the vertical form factor takes up less space than the other single card chassis.

[Low Profile] SSD7101A-1 is a great card. I installed 4x Samsung 970 EVO+ to be used for rendering and I get 13,000 MB/s.

A motherboard with 16x lanes is best for performance. It does come with a RAID software.

[1x Fan] Moving from my on board RAID controller to a dedicated card was a game changer.

Using my motherboard in RAID 0 had no problem with Sequential reads/writes, but the random reads were painfully slow.

I moved to a PCI riser card (Gigabytes Aorus) so I could have more drives and a possible bonus of the bifurcated PCI lanes would be a bit quicker. Same performance.

I finally bit the bullet and picked up this card. It has been FLAWLESS.

The random read performance is within spitting distance of a single drive. Absolutely thrilled with this setup.

970 Evo Plus 1TB drives

Now I just need to get PCI4 capable stuff together so I can really put it through its paces
