Responding to the demands of cinematographers, this 62mm Tiffen Black Glimmerglass Camera Filter 62mm Grade 1/8from Tiffen Black Glimmerglass Camera Filter 62mm Grade 1/8features a grade 1/8 density and is designed to take the crisp edges off the images that modern lenses and digital cameras produce. The filter subtly softens the image and lowers detail resolution for those who want to simulate the look of film footage while shooting on digital gear. This black Glimmerglass model reduces contrast and overall sharpness and can smooth out unwanted blemishes, wrinkles, or other fine details in a subject's face while keeping the general image in focus. Manufactured using ColorCore technology, the filter is designed to be accurate in its effect and to produce consistent results.

Q: 4. Is anyone else having issues threading this to the new Fujifilm XF33 f1.4 lens?

A: Tiffen 58mm UV Protector Filter is fully compatible with FUJIFILM XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens. since they are the same thread size. Look closely at both threads and verify if their are any deffects on the threads which is preventing the items to screw in.

Q: 5. I bought two of these filters at the same time. One is 7.5mm thick, the other 9mm thick. The font size on the 7.5mm is much smaller. I suspect one might be a fake, as I got two fakes from amazon today. Can someone verify the correct thickness of these? The specs say 5mm thick, which neither is.

A: Manufacturing specifications change over time, you may have gotten filters from two different production batches. The current production specification is 7.5mm thick. As you also contacted Tiffen directly by email with photos we do not believe your filters to be fake.

Q: 6. will this filter fit a xf100?

A: Round ('circular') filters are characterized by their thread diameter, so you should select those whose thread diameter is the same as that of your lens(es). (The thread diameter of your lens is NOT the same as its focal length!)

Q: 7. how can I screw a lee filter holder adapter ring onto this Tiffen CPL?

A: For a 77 mm thread, you need a filter holder adapter ring that is 77 mm dia. You screw it on, and clamp the filter holder.

A: That lens only requires a 46 mm filter: Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizing Filter B&H # TICP46 MFR # 46CP

Q: 10. I have a Nikon D5500 with a lens 18- 140mm mm . I purchased this filter and It does not fit !!!! :-( Am I doing something wrong? can I exchange it?

A: I believe the filter thread diameter for this lens is 67mm, not 77mm. You should be able to return it if within the allowable time frame. Good luck.

[Glass] I don't usually use filters but I stumble upon a youtube video and was curious how they achieved the hazy look I was trying to achieve. I figured it was all done in post (which you can, albeit with varying results). So after Googlin' and researching I came across this specific filter. I should have prefaced that I mainly shoot images and occasional video.

The filtration is subtle (had to compare images taken under the same condition, see attached) but noticeable. This for sure will stay on my lens permanently!! GORGEOUS FILTER!

[0.15 lb] Great filter for filmmakers , specially for modern photo lenses with over sharpness and 4k resolution

[Glass] Love it. Gives a fantastic bloom to the highlights and doesn't lower contrast as much as the Promist. Solid construction. No flare that isn't what the lens is made for.

A+ product!

[Glass] Adds a subtle glow and sheen to the image, really helps breath some organic life into even the most sterile digital cameras.

[Aluminum] Soft glow without compromising contrast. I'd pick it over the promist any day.

[Aluminum] I was worried that a 1 strength would be really glow-y the way a promist would, but you only really see an obvious glow in very strong back-lit or high contrast conditions. Otherwise it's a very a very gentle touch on highlights and overall contrast.

Also the idea that a sparkly filter inspires confidence in a model is the silliest selling point I've ever heard, and my models laughed at the idea of it ... which got me some genuine smiles, so I guess there's that.

[0.15 lb] The Glimmerglass 1/2 is nice. The sharp edges are reduced but I still have detail. And being able to quickly pop off the filter for certain shots is awesome!

[62 mm] Great diffusion filter that adds soft contrast to take off the digital edge while retaining sharpness. Would highly recommend over other diffusion filters.

[Glass] Lots of reviews suggest the 1/8 for a more 'filmic look but I found that I needed the 1/4 strength to get that effect.

Note that focal length and the quality of the light itself will impact the outcome.

A note regarding the GG1: This provides a very noticeable effect in most cases. Maybe a tad too much for everyday use.

Tiffen needs a magical filter that works on the jpeg but leaves the raw alone !

[Aluminum] I was looking for a filter that would bloom the highlights and practical light sources without decreasing the overall contrast of the image, and I think this was just the filter I wanted. Compared to Black Pro Mist and especially Cinebloom, the shadow levels and sharpness are maintained with this filter. The diffusion is just enough for me. To me, it seems it blooms the highlights and light sources just enough to look like my image was shot on film, but without being too dramatic or noticeable. I think if I were going for a more dreamy look, I'd go with a higher Glimmerglass strength or use something like Cinebloom.
