Responding to the demands of cinematographers, this 72mm Tiffen Black Glimmerglass Camera Filter 72mm Grade 1/4from Tiffen Black Glimmerglass Camera Filter 72mm Grade 1/4features a grade 1/4 density and is designed to take the crisp edges off the images that modern lenses and digital cameras produce. The filter subtly softens the image and lowers detail resolution for those who want to simulate the look of film footage while shooting on digital gear. This black Glimmerglass model reduces contrast and overall sharpness and can smooth out unwanted blemishes, wrinkles, or other fine details in a subject's face while keeping the general image in focus. Q: 1. HI! Would this be compatible with Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35mm f/2.5 P II Lens (M-Mount) ? I was told there is a selection of filters that won't be compatible, even if they are 39mm... Thanks!

A: The Tiffen 39mm UV Protector Filter BH #TIUVP39 is compatible with Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35mm f/2.5 P II Lens (M-Mount) BH #VO3525M.

Q: 2. How much vignetting would this lens have on a tokina 11-16 lens on a Nikon D7200?

A: Your camera body is not full frame and has a 1.5x magnification factor. As a result your 11-16mm lens when used on this body is essentially a 16.5mm -24mm lens. There should be no vignetting given these focal lengths when using a standard CP filter. However, if you are concerned Tiffen does make a low profile filter to avoid vignetting: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/163451-REG/Tiffen_77WIDCP_77mm_Circular_Polarizing_Wide.html

Q: 3. Does the Tiffen 62UVP protect the lens from liquid splatter?

A: The Tiffen 62mm UV Protector Filter, B&H # TIUVP62, would protect the lens from direct liquid splatter. However, do note the filter is not waterproof. In the event of liquid splatter, it is recommended to wipe off the filter (and/or lens) as soon as possible. If you plan to be around splattering liquid, you may also consider purchasing a rain cover such as the Ruggard Fabric Rain Shield Small (14"), B&H # RURCFC714, or the Ruggard RC-P18 Rain Cover for DSLR with Lens up to 18" (Pack of 2), B&H # RURCP18, in addition to the UV Protection filter, or an underwater housing compatible for use with your camera.

Q: 4. Can this fit a Hasselblad 80mm CF 2.8 lens?

A: This will fit any lens with a 67mm filter thread.

Q: 5. compatible with Nikkor AF-S VR 18-140mm?

A: Yes, this filter will fit on the Nikkor AF-S VR 18-140mm.

Q: 6. Does this or any 52mm filter accept a Nikon lens cap to cover it?

A: Yes, the lens cover will fit. Buy the filter and enjoy. I believe you should have UV filters on all lenses. I would much rather shatter a filter than my lens. I speak from experience.

Q: 7. Does it block UV? Is it okay for at the sun when checking the movement of clouds?

A: Question : Does It Block UV? Answer : No, It Doesn't. But The VVF Allows The User To Add Additional Neutral Density Filters (Available Seperately) To Increase The Stop Range, UV Filters And Polarizers, Or Even Special FX And Diffusion Filters For Pre-Visualization Of A Scene Without The Need To Reposition The Camera. Anyway You Could Purchase Tiffen 49mm Digital Neutral Density Filter Kit Together With The Tiffen Variable Viewing Filter.Question : Is It Okay For At The Sun When Checking The Movement Of Clouds?Answer : Not Yet. It Is Not Okay For At The Sun When Checking The Movement Of Clouds Without Additional ND Or UV Filters. But It Is A Great Tool For Gaffers And Directors Of Photography To Spot Strong Lights Or Keep Track Of The Sun Moving In And Out Of cloud Cover With Additional ND Or UV Filters. For Identifying The Position Of The Sun When It Is Behind Clouds To Determine Where Shadows Will Fall. Warning : Only Use To Find The Sun Behind Clouds. My Advice : You Could Purchase Tiffen 49mm Digital Neutral Density Filter Kit Together With The Tiffen Variable Viewing Filter.Best Regards,Toke.Thailand.

Q: 8. Will this fit tiffen 49 to 55 step ring?

A: Yes it would. The second number in step-up ring designations always comment on the filter size, the first number is always regarding the lens' thread size.

Q: 9. does this rotate independently of the lens?

A: I am not sure what you exactly mean... but I can tell you this. The filter screws on to the lens.

Q: 10. will this filter fit a xf100?

A: Round ('circular') filters are characterized by their thread diameter, so you should select those whose thread diameter is the same as that of your lens(es). (The thread diameter of your lens is NOT the same as its focal length!)

[0.19 lb] Tiffen Filters are always the best when it comes to build quality, reliability and options they provide. I am super happy with my 2 Set of Glimmerglass!!:) They make the image naturally gloomy without washing out the entire scene.

Also B&H did a perfect job on shipping and customer contact! I live in Germany and my package arrived only 4 days after my order was placed. Thanks, you guts are the best!

[0.19 lb] Any time I decide on diffusion filters, the biggest considerations for me are the strength of halation and the amount of contrast I'm looking for. I usually default to Hollywood Black Magic as my standard diffusion filter. When I want something stronger and a big more vintage feeling I'll reach for Black Pro Mist. When I want something much more subtle, I'll go for Glimmerglass because the halation is under much better control than the other two. I usually aim for a 1 strength when I want to see the effect. Even then, it doesn't feel too strong.

[Aluminum] So I have used the GlimmerGlass series a lot as a large matte-box filter on the cinema cameras. But sometimes I go and shoot inserts on a lighter setup with my FX6 and a Zoom lens. For that purpose this filter is absolutely perfect. If the 1/2, 3/4 and 1/4 become available as 82mm filters I will purchase them.

[Aluminum] The Glimmerglass 1/2 is nice. The sharp edges are reduced but I still have detail. And being able to quickly pop off the filter for certain shots is awesome!

[0.19 lb] Works well so far, and is less obscene than even 1/4 black pro mist can be. And price is fair. Now why do these filters cost 500% more in rectangular shape?

[0.19 lb] I was looking for a filter that would bloom the highlights and practical light sources without decreasing the overall contrast of the image, and I think this was just the filter I wanted. Compared to Black Pro Mist and especially Cinebloom, the shadow levels and sharpness are maintained with this filter. The diffusion is just enough for me. To me, it seems it blooms the highlights and light sources just enough to look like my image was shot on film, but without being too dramatic or noticeable. I think if I were going for a more dreamy look, I'd go with a higher Glimmerglass strength or use something like Cinebloom.

[Aluminum] Lots of reviews suggest the 1/8 for a more 'filmic look but I found that I needed the 1/4 strength to get that effect.

Note that focal length and the quality of the light itself will impact the outcome.

A note regarding the GG1: This provides a very noticeable effect in most cases. Maybe a tad too much for everyday use.

Tiffen needs a magical filter that works on the jpeg but leaves the raw alone !

[Glass] Great diffusion filter that adds soft contrast to take off the digital edge while retaining sharpness. Would highly recommend over other diffusion filters.
