A true highlight of this library are four additional instruments, unheard in any previous sample library: Cranyx, Cornu, Dord and War Horns which already existed in the bronze age. These instruments allow you to tap into unexplored sonic worlds. The instruments of this 25GB heavy library (consisting of more than 25,000 samples) are elaborated multisamples (24-bit / 44.1 kHz) with several dynamic levels, various articulations, round-robin, and real legato samples as well as dedicated glissando samples.

For Celtic ERA 2 multi-instrumentalist and sampling-expert Eduardo Tarilonte meticulously captured 36 Celtic wind, string, and percussion instruments in full detail and with immaculate quality. Among them you will find catchy flutes, dreamy harps, the famous Uilleann bagpipes, and striking bodhran drums. To achieve an even greater variety, some sounds were created by recording two different instruments of the same kind. This allows you for example to play a harp duet with different sounding instruments. In addition, authentic phrases were recorded as MIDI-patterns as well as inspiring soundscapes. Naturally, the instruments are offered in all of their typical articulations with an added true legato function.

  • Flutes: Asubio, Galician Ocarine, Folk Low Whistle, Folk Tin Whistle, Folk Whistle, Irish Flute, Low Whistle D, Whistle D, Wooden Low Whistle
  • Pipes: Breton Bombarde, Gaida, Galician Bagpipe, Highland Pipes 1, Highland Pipes 2, Scottish Smallpipes, Uilleann Pipes
  • Keys: Two Concertinas
  • Strings: Two Acoustic Guitars (fingered, plucked and strummed), Irish Bouzouki (fingered, plucked and strummed), Tenor Banjo, two Celtic Harps, two Celtic Zithers, Fiddle
  • Ancient Instruments: Carnyx, Cornu, Dord, War Horn
  • Drums and Percussion: Bodrahn, Scottish Snare Drum, Small Skin Snare, Tom, Bass Drum

The recordings for Celtic ERA 2 were made in Eldana Studios in Spanish Dueñas. All instruments were played by superb musicians from the Irish music scene:

  • Martino Vacca (Uilleann Pipes, Irish Flute, Low Whistles, and Whistle)
  • Karen Hickey (Fiddle)
  • Carlos Martín Aires (Acoustic Guitar, Irish Bouzouki, Tenor Banjo)
  • Fernando Mosquera (Highland Pipes 2, Gaida, Galician Bagpipe, Scottish Smallpipes, Wooden Low Whistle, and Asubio)
  • Jean Yves Magre (Highland Pipes 1)
  • Marie Agnes Magre (Breton Bombarde)
  • Pablo Vergara (Bodhrans)
  • Álvaro García Pichu (Scottish Drum, Skin Snare, Bass Drum, and Tom).

All instruments were recorded using selected Kahayan U47 mics and preamps as well top-notch ribbon mics. Miking was carried out intentionally close and thus without room detail. This procedure offers full control over the subsequent sculpting of the sounds and effects. Therefore, the sounds of Celtic ERA 2 can be combined with Eduardo Tarilonte’s others libraries without any difficulty.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi...how this lens compares with Milvus 100mm f2.0?

A: Otus is Zeiss state of the art lens series. ZEISS Otus 100mm f/1.4 ZE Lens for Canon EF is a small telephoto lens with one of the sharpest optical quality and built for portraiture excellency. ZEISS Milvus 100mm f/2M ZE is a macro lens. Both lenses are extremely sharp but when compare side by side under portrait option the Zeiss Otus series is superior. Physically Zeiss Otus lenses are almost twice the weight and substantially larger than Zeiss Milvus series.

Q: 2. Anyone try mounting the 50mm 1.4 or 2.0 on an APS-C crop camera? Would you get similar to the 85mm Milvus on full frame? Any thoughts?

A: Depending on the camera brand, there are a number of different APS-C sensor sizes with effective crop factors ranging from 1.52x - 1.6x when used with full frame lenses. The ZEISS 50mm lens will create an angle of view ranging from 76mm - 80mm when used on one of these cameras.

Q: 3. Hi, will this work in ps5?

A: No, the OWC 8TB Aura P12 M.2 Internal SSD BH #OWS4DAQ12ST8 is not compatible with the PS5.

Q: 4. Is this lens (MFR #2096-550) compatible with Nikon D7000? The compatibility list shows D7100 and D7200 so I assume it is, but wanted to be sure.

A: Yes. Due to its manual-only design, this will work with most Nikon DSLRs. :)

Q: 5. Will this be able to fit under a graphics card?

A: no there may be some issues mounting this under a graphics card as the device is rather tall, while it may fit under a single card it will mot fit under a dual card

Q: 6. Has anyone tried adapting the otus 85 to Fuji GFX50 ? Will there be vignetting ?

A: There would be at least some vignetting using a full-frame lens with a larger sensor like that on the GFX50.

Q: 7. Is there a version with 10G Ethernet port instead of 2.5Gbe?

A: The QNAP TBS-464 M.2 NVMe SSD NASbook (B&H # QNTBS4648GUS) has a similar model with a 10GbE port. Which is the QNAP TBS-h574TX Thunderbolt 4 NASbook (B&H # QNTB574TI31). https://bhpho.to/4048nAh

Q: 8. can you unscrew the clip on top to screw on shock mounts?

A: Oh yes, the clip unscrews on what looks like brass threads. Great stand for the price.

Q: 9. Will this work with a synology 12-bay RS2416+ ?

A: No, the Synology M2D18 Dual M.2 SSD Adapter Card BH #SYM2D18 is not compatible with the RS2416+.

Q: 10. Will this only work with the Sonos speakers? or will it work with other usb-c headsets too? (like maybe the new Airpods Max?)

A: The Sonos Line-In Adapter for Era 100/300 (Black), B&H # SOLINEINAB, could technically be connected to headphones with a USB-C input, but this is not recommended. This adapter is for line-level audio, while headphones take headphone-level audio. There is some overlap between these audio levels, but you might find that this adapter does not provide enough volume to some headphones.

[Yes] It's not a big sample library but the bell tones are excellent! I could not find a comparable library for this type of bell sound from the other big name sample library companies, so this fills a niche missed by others.

[25,000] Ive only scratched the surface of Emotional Violins features, but it already has proven useful in two recent projects. It sits well in the mix on top of other orchestra string libraries. It has more than two dozen articulations that gives it a realistic sound. Well done.

[Standard] a great closely MICed string ensemble. great for small orchestra work. Definetly a learning curve to figure things out, but rewards when you do.

[Standard] Works well standalone, and also integrates with Omnisphere quite well (nice to have a bunch of new patches for this integration for immediate use). Fantastic acoustic / electric pianos and it's great to have all of the vintage and rate mechanical / bell / tine keys for unique sounds.

[Standard] This is my seventh virtual piano. See my review of the Bösendorfer also by VSL — this is just as supremely recorded and I prefer the Steinway sound. It's hard to see how anyone will ever do any better than this. There are 10 different microphone positions (plus the room mix which incorporates several of them in the standard library; I think the full library gives added richness). I use eight of them (not the Main or the main-C) and the plate reverb at 30% which I like better than the algorithmic reverb or the delay. If you can't afford the full, the standard will still be superior to anything else out there.

[25 GB ] Lots of articulations that play well together. I also find the synchron player easier/faster to use than Vienna's older Vienna Instrument player or Kontakt based sample sets. Note that Elite sits somewhere between Chamber and Pro/I orchestra in terms of number of strings. I find that the number of strings in the Pro/I orchestra is enough that you lose some of that sense of 'bow on string'. With Elite you still hear some of that 'bow on the string'. Layering Elite on Pro is also really useful.

[Yes] If you're at all interested in The Orchestra just get it when it goes on sale. It's awesome.

[Yes] I own many piano libraries as well as a real Steinway B so I was not expecting Keyscape to be as good as it is. I have not had time to explore much beyond the Rhodes and Yamaha C7 sounds but those are excellent and have easily replaced other libraries for me. The sounds work very well in my mixes. It does take a fairly hefty computer with an SSD, however, to run.

[Yes] Best piano library I've experienced. Vibrant sound, customization and dynamics are all there. If you are into CFX or trying to add it to your arsenal, do not hesitate.
