A: As per the manufacture. The main shelf sits 32.75"/34.75" from the ground.

A: The two halves do join in the middle, but the design is for central support of the two for stability. All parts must be used together and at once.

Q: 4. can it lock?

A: If you're asking whether the shelf can lock so that it doesn't slide out when the rack is tilted, the answer is no. My rack has lids on the front and back so even if it is tilted the shelf will bump into the lid. I never had a problem with it and I like it a lot. Everything that I have on it velcroed to stay in place.

Q: 5. Will this work with the GRR-8L Gator Case? It's about 16" from the front mounting holes to the back.

A: Yes, the Gator GRR-8L is 18.75" deep and the shelf is 15" deep.
