Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this help the audio when I record a YouTube interview I was in? Currently, the audio sounds terribly tinny.

A: Hello Carol, there are a lot of factors to consider while recording interviews to and from the internet. However, I would say that in general this microphone is an incredible upgrade when used as the source audio for Skype, Youtube, or any streaming services.

Q: 2. Is this a good mic for live-streaming presenters at a conference? Are there other mics that you would recommend for that purpose instead of this one?

A: Yes the Rode Podcaster USB Broadcast Microphone is an excellent solution to consider for live streaming presenters.

Q: 3. Can this mic be used as a voice over mic plugged into an audio interface then into a computer?

A: Sure can. Remember not to supply phantom power from the interface.

Q: 4. I want to connect this mic to an XLR output. Can you point me to a decent adapter? Thanks.

A: Unfortunately at this time, there is no product that allows XLR mics to be connected to an XLR input.

Q: 5. What's the best blimp/dead for this microphone?

A: The Rycote Mini Windjammer provides optimum wind diffusion for smaller microphones. Like the standard Windjammer, the Mini Windjammer provides 10 - 12dB extra protection over standard windscreens. This Windjammer accommodates the Rode NT4.

Q: 6. Is there a mount for this microphone on a HVX-255?

A: Due to the weight and diameter of the Rode NT4 it is difficult to shock mount this mic on a camera. You are able however to adapt the incuded stand mount the RM3 to your cameras shoe with a simple adapter. The Tether Tools hot shoe adapter features a 3/8 male thread that will support the stand mount using the 3/8 thread adapter that was included with the stand mount.

Q: 7. Hi. I need to connect a rode podcaster to my ipad, how? Just the USB plug isn't enough, it says, when plugged in. Takes up too much power, so what to do?

A: The Podcaster USB mic is designed to be used with desktop computers. According to Rode, It may be used with an iPad using the Apple Camera connection kit and powered USB hub to provide power.

Q: 8. Is it possible to change the capsules to put some with other polar patterns?

A: I was a little surprised to find that the C02 does indeed have a modular capsule design, and it would suggest this intent. However, Samson does not appear to make or sell any other capsules that would fit (at this time). Perhaps they will in the future.

Q: 9. How do you record 2 people at the same time? I tried it using my podcaster but the sound quality was poor because we could not both get close enough. So if I need 2 microphones, how would I integrate them?

A: I suggest you record the 2 tracks seperately (Use a slapstick for sync) then use Audacity to edit and merge the two into one track. We use Techsmith Camtasia for our video and audio editing. Works great. A great resource is Daniel Park at (dappertext LLC, 2643 Mulligan Dr., Jackson, MI 49203, United States ). Good luck with your project !

Q: 10. Can this mic be plugged into a Panasonic GH-4 camera which I believe supplies minimal power to some mics?

A: The GH4 will provide plug in power to some mics. The NT4 will require phantom power which is more than the 1-5 volts your camera can provide. You can however use the mic using a 9 volt battery which will power the mic, and a Stereo XLR to Mini 1/8 inch Cable is included in the package which allows for connection to your camera.

[Mono] We bought these for our church to mic a 100 kid choir. Worked well!

[24 to 48 V] I give 5 stars because the quality seems great so far and the mic seems sturdy. I have only had the chance to use it once or twice, but for testing it in a poor acoustical environment and not having a great pre-amp yet, I got very good sound.

[Solid-State] These are great mics, once modified mind you. Stock, they are passable, but fraught with problems. Peaks in the high-end, thin sound, etc... But with a little work by a mic mod expert, they become amazing.

[Cardioid] Small , light weight as well as affordable.
But the best part of my purchase was the patient sales fellow who took me item by item through my list of equipment - adding his thoughts and suggestions. He was exactly what I failed to get at a competitor. Thanks so much for making it both an easy and educational experience.

[End Address] These Rode M5 compact microphones are way more than awesome!! They are not what I expected but they were much much more. I just received them last week and have already used them on a filming job of a choir. When I did a run thru very first time with the choir last Thursday I had my headphones on just making the necessary audio adjustments and my other videographer on camera #2 looked at me from across the room where he was running his camera and said Looks like you are happy about something!! I bet it's those new Rode mics!! Never seen you with a smile like that in a long time!!! I just gave him a thumbs up and was totally way overwhelmed. The sound is what I would expect from a $2,000 plus microphone. Anyway, this is a MUST BUY and you probably better buy quickly from B&H because the pricing on this won't stay this cheap for long.

[Mono] With the pair of microphones mounted on the stereo bar I was able to easily capture a conversation of two documentary subjects, avoiding the hassle of panning a single shotgun mic or fussing with lav mics. The sound quality in the recording was lovely, and the convenience of mounting the mics next to each other and directed toward the subjects was phenomenal. This setup opens up many possibilities at a modest price. My first real-world use case was a resounding success.

[Solid-State] Used for violin solos and string quartet recordings with XY stereo technique, connected to Zoom H6 so far. Base noise is low, and high frequency pick up is impressive. For the price, it is a great deal. Highly recommended.
