The Hoya W10 filter is helpful when:

  • You are using tungsten-balanced film and want to capture natural colors during the daytime instead of the heavy blue cast the film will create.
  • You are shooting tungsten-balanced film indoors with 5500° Kelvin light sources like flashed or studio strobes.
  • W10 is not as strong as the W12, so it will produce a slightly warmer look when used with standard tungsten-balance film.

HOYA Multicoat (HMC) filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated lenses. These popular filters minimize reflection, reduce flare and ghosting, and result in over 97% average light transmission.

[0.15 lb] I have been using the 812 warming filter on all of my camera lenses, since 1980 I never take it off, as it takes care of the lens and adds a little warmth to all of my photographs. I believe is better than a UV filter for general photography, and for portraiture is terrific.

[Multi Coated] Produces very good IR photos and screws on to the camera without binding and resistance. Easy to use and a valuable companion when the subject looks like it would be interesting in IR. There is enough visible transmission so that it is easy to get a good focus.

[85] This is one of the few filters you can't identify without either a flashlight or reading the edge text: it looks like a deep, black/neutral density filter. A flashlight will show read looking through it.

Usually, you need to pre-focus and switch to manual before putting this filter on, to get focus where it needs to be. My R7 can figure out exposure with the filter on in daylight... at dusk, you gotta do the math, but it has nice effects.

[85] I mostly purchase filers for protection of the lens. So the fact that this lovely warming filter gives a healthy glow to skin and surroundings is just a bonus. I am quite happy with this filter.

[85] This is a necessary filter to shoot Tungsten film in daylight. I had a roll of 120 Cinestill800t film that I was shooting in both tungsten interiors and daylight exteriors so I wanted a filter to neutralize some of the color shifts shooting Tungsten in daylight exterior brings.

While shooting tungsten film in daylight settings is able to be color corrected in post, that does equal time + work. Having an 85 filter definitely will speed up the post work flow.

In regards to the different levels of 85 filter, B works great for me. I'm sure the other levels are to taste, but using 85 I didn't wish it were warmer or cooler after seeing the images I got back.

[Glass] As always, Tiffen is pricy but the manufacturing is flawless. The conversion to daylight is good but not as effective as with older E6 formulas. Aristas color reversal is a zero. Cinstills CS6 is far better but requires at least 2 85B filters for a fuller correction. Oh for the days of Tetenol!!!

[Glass] I have not had a chance to use enough myself but have seen results by other photographers and was recommended by my photo instructor friend

[85] This filter is really very good. Using it you will get hotter images, specially when there is high color contrast in the scene. The unique odd aspect is its silver color. I would prefer it titanium made, but black.
