Tiffen 52mm Soft Fx 1 Filter For Photography

Tiffen 52mm Soft Fx 1 Filter For Photography

$114.21 $149.62

The Tiffen 52mm Soft FX 1 Filter for Photographycan be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/2, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What Nm is this filter? 720? 950? thanks!

A: This filter allows zero light to be passed below 580nm, at 700nm is allows 86.5% to pass.

Q: 2. How would this filter behave when shooting a sunrise?

A: While it will depend on the size of the sun in your image (and to some extent, your chosen aperture and focal length), it should behave similar to the sample image on our website. The main difference is, as the sun is both a large and bright light source, the points in the star would be much wider than when photographing a smaller light source or a small specular highlight. The size of the bands would typically depend on the size of the sun in the image. As focal length plays a part in the size of the sun (as well as the sun's position in the sky and/or as it approaches the horizon), wide angle lenses may typically have thinner points, while telephoto lenses would have wider points.

Q: 3. Is it possible to screw another filter onto the front?

A: The Tiffen 67mm Black Diffusion/FX 1/2 Filter has 67mm front filter threads, so any filter with 67mm threads can be stacked.

Q: 4. Is this a neutral density filter that can be used with tungsten super 8 film?

A: The Tiffen 58mm Nude/FX 6 Filter is not an ND filter, but a warming filter--it adds a warm amber glow to the image. Search on B&H for "58mm ND filter" to see compatible filters.

Q: 5. What is the difference between the digital diffusion and a classic soft?

A: Please visit our website at a href= http://tiffen.com/diffusion/ target= _blank http://tiffen.com/diffusion//a for full product descriptions and video examples of all the diffusion filters we manufacture.

Q: 6. What is is the mm ring size?

A: Series 9 filters do not have threads. You use them with different size retaining and stepdown rings. The filter is 82.6 mm and the adapter ring is 87.5 mm.

Q: 7. Where can I find a transmission curve for the Tiffen Yellow #12 filter?

A: Please email techsupport@tiffen.com for assistance.

Q: 8. Is this filter multicoated?

A: no

Q: 9. Is this the same as the Tiffen Black Promist filters?

A: No, this is not a Black Pro Mist filter. If you are looking for 95mm Black Pro Mist please visit the link below: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=tiffen%20black%20pro%20mist%2095mm&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma

Q: 10. Does this filter contaminates the bokeh balls with black spots or something else related to the diffusion filter?

A: Yes, the Tiffen Black Diffusion filter is designed with small aberrations to create a soft effect on your images and videos. However, the dots are invisible to the lens due to the proximity to your lens front element.

[4.2 x 3.4 x 1"] This filter really gives the video a nice soft look much like film

[0.2 lb] I loves this filter F/X 2. It gives a soft focus to my portraits without actually blurring the image. Very good for close up portraits.

[4.2 x 3.4 x 1"] As standard practice in the portrait studio I like using the Soft/FX1 because it provides just enough help to take the hard edge off a portrait. Now that I have the FX2, I find it's my choice for some faces. Its effect is still fairly subtle, but can sometimes be too soft for a younger customer's portrait when it is to be used in professional publication. I can't say I notice any flare or fog effect. Technically the FX series filters aren't a translucent milky material. It would be more accurate to describe them as clear glass with hundreds or thousands of very, very small bubbles trapped inside that act as lenses.

[Aluminum] This is a very nice diffusion filter that effects small line without softening the overall image. I use it mainly for video productions. The only caution you should take, is if you're using a still camera lens on a video camera, and thus only using part of the lens. This will actually increase the strength of the filter and diffuse the image even more, maybe more than what you want.

[Aluminum] Just enough softening to relax the hardness' in a portrait. Does not create any fog or flare. Love using this filter in the studio for both women's and men's formal portraits.

[Aluminum] I bought this filter to use with my Sigma 105 mm macro lens for flower photography. The filter produces exactly the dreamy, ethereal look that I often aim for in my flower photography, with a beautiful soft glow when a flower is backlit. The filter is solidly built and screws onto the lens smoothly. I'm totally pleased with this product.

[0.2 lb] Having worked with filters extensively when shooting with my film cameras over the years, I knew that if the softening feature on my new camcorder proved unable to do what I needed that a filter or combination of filters might just save the day. Although the Tiffen soft fx filter #3 is not sold for use with video, the results were exactly as expected. Once again, Tiffen came through 110%

[4.2 x 3.4 x 1"] I will be using this for filmmaking purposes and based on my first test it appears to give a nice film like look as opposed to video, which is what I was hoping for.

[0.2 lb] Bought this for studio work with my Leica lenses, which are often too sharp for some types of portraiture--every skin pore is right there. Tried the FX 3 first, but it gives noticeable halos on specular highlights like jewelry. These are minor with the FX 1, but the desired smoothing effect of skin is still noticeable. Depending on the subject, post-processing will often still be necessary (don't expect any filter to eliminate photoshop...) but the filter helps bring the unedited image closer to target.

[4.2 x 3.4 x 1"] I use this filter when filming interviews under controlled lighting - i.e. indoor. Digital video can be somewhat crisp on wrinkles and skin blemishes, but this filter softens them nicely without being too sickly fuzzy. Very happy with the results. It's not so good in strong uncontrolled lighting.
