The Mackie 2404VLZ4 24-Channel 4-Bus FX Mixer with USB from the VLZ4 4-Bus Series features Onyx microphone preamps in a high-headroom / low-noise 4-bus design with a feature set suitable for live sound. The mixer is equipped with dual 32-bit RMFX+ effect processors, each with 24 effects including tap delay. It also includes compression on dedicated channels and subgroups that allow for simple, sweet dynamic control.
Additionally, both of the FX processors feature a tap delay and the delays may easily be synchronized with the song at the tap of a finger. The processed signal may be sent directly to the mains and monitors from the effects section or re-routed to the 2 stereo channels to bring them through the EQ and AUX section, utilizing the 60mm fader to draw them into the mix.
The 24-channel, 4-bus FX mixer has 8 single-knob compressors to stop the dynamic signals from poking out of the mix. There are 4 compressors are located on the last 4 microphone inputs so that critical signals (such as vocals, snare drum, guitar or keyboards) may be addressed. In addition, there are single-knob compressors on each of the 4 subgroups so that grouped signals (such as a drum set or a choir of vocalists) may be blended together for paramount smoothness.
This mixer also features a 4 x 2 USB recording and playback function. This means that up to 4 signals may be recorded simultaneously and a stereo mix returned to the mixer for playback. Its built-like-a-tank construction delivers years of reliable use under strenuous conditions. The VLZ4 4-Bus Series offers a compact FX mixer solution in a design that’s flexible, rugged, and professional.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Would this work with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as my USB connection? I teach online and want to mix in background music from an ipad into my Zoom calls.
A: Yes, the Mackie Mix5 - 5-Channel Compact Mixer could be used to receive background music from an iPad and then send its signal out to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2x2 USB Audio Interface, which may allow for more level control over the music. In theory you could also connect the iPad's audio output directly to the Scarlett with the proper cable.
Q: 2. Does this mixer require a Dongle or special key other than serial # to use the accompanying Pro Tools software?
A: There is no dongle required. There will be a software download code included with the mixer.
Q: 3. Hi...Just received the mix5...small and nice but...how can I listen to only headphones without also having music coming out the speakers? there is a to headphones button but doesn't do anything...thanks
A: Hi Michael, I have yet to try this with the Mix8 but I will look at it tonight. Have you tried engaging the To Phones button and disengaging the To Mix button? I am guess you have since it seems to be the way it would be done if possible. Though looking at the location of the buttons I am now wondering if they send the RCA inputs to the phones or to Main since they are stacked next to the RCA connectors. I'll do some more looking and experimenting on the 8 and let you know. - Craig
Q: 4. What's different between the v2/v3?
A: Hi, the newer v3 models come included with Pro Tools software, have more effects, 24-Bit / 192kHz USB recording. Thank you for shopping at B&H!
Q: 5. What would I have to buy to make this work ? I have the mixer, a 48v phantom power supply, and a set of cables. One set of cables can connect the microphone to the power supply as the input, and the other singular cable serves as the output so the computer can recognize the supply. Wat cables are required to actually use the mixer itself ?
A: This should really be done with an interface. That being said we will work with what you have. The mic if its a condenser. Take the mic cable and plug one end in the mic and the other into the phantom power supply. Then take another XLR out of the phantom power supply and plug it in the mic input of your mixer. Now to get the mixer into your computer you should be using an interface. But you dont have one so we will have to do this the only way possible. You will need a Y cable. Two RCA males to one 3.5mm male. The B and H part number is B&H # HOYCRTRSRCA6. To the right of the mic EQ you will see 4 RCAs that say Tape Out. Plug the Y cable into the 2 RCAs that say out and the 3.5mm into your computer.
Q: 6. What is the signal to noise (s/n) ratio? I can't find it in the manual.
A: The company has not made that information available to the public at this point in time.
Q: 7. Can the control room be used as another auxiliary?
A: Yes, the control room output on the Mackie Onyx24 Analog Mixer can be used as an auxiliary output, if desired.
Q: 8. Do I need a separate pre-amp to plug the Sennheiser AVX transmitter w/ TRS to XLR into Channels 3 or 4 and get a clean signal?
A: Channels 3/4 on the Mackie Mix8 - 8-Channel Compact Mixer are line level inputs, so yes, you would need a microphone preamp to connect a mic level signal to them.
Q: 9. Would this fully work with Linux? (Linux mint) hoping it might since all the processing is done in device n not software
A: Yes, the Mackie ProFX10v3+ 10-Channel Analog Mixer with Built-In FX, USB Recording, and Bluetooth is compatible with Linux.
Q: 10. Do the mute buttons on the channel strips have indicator lights to show which channels are muted?
A: Yes, the mute buttons do have indicator lights that illuminate to show when a channel is muted.
