Complete massive backups faster, stream content during a live performance, edit large format video, or run high transactional and complex calculation applications by taking advantage of U.2 NVMe SSDs and the OWC ecosystem of U.2 drives and adapters. U.2 NVMe drives are specifically designed to maximize the PCIe bus and deliver transfer speeds up to 2750 MB/s when combined with Thunderbolt.

The OWC Flex 1U4 goes with the flow when needing to move data outside or beyond the local network. With the OWC U.2 ecosystem, moving and sharing data is fast and easy. Swap out and ship a project from field to post in video production workflows. Move backup data to an offline colocation for backup workflows. The combination of OWC Flex 1U4 and the OWC U.2 ecosystem opens a new dimension to data transfer possibilities.

The Flex 1U4 comes complete with hardware for mounting into most racks and cabinets.

Harness the full capability of your OWC Flex 1U4 drive array with the included SoftRAID XT, the most powerful, intuitive RAID management software on the market for macOS and Windows. SoftRAID's RAID creation and management technology is optimized for data protection and drive performance. It is packed with features like multiple RAID options, validation and verification of drives, and predictive disk failure with SoftRAID Monitor.

SoftRAID provides a level of storage performance that you simply can't get with hardware RAID and is ideal for anyone who needs to safely store and backup massive amounts of data, including educational institutions, government agencies, businesses, content creators, and media and entertainment professionals. If you need even more power and flexibility, you can upgrade to SoftRAID Pro to spread volumes over two or more disk enclosures for incredible performance that would be impossible with hardware-based RAID.

OWC Flex 1U4 solutions go through a multi-step performance certification prior to shipping. This ensures they arrive operating properly and immediately ready for demanding use.

Built for reliability and performance, OWC enclosures are rigorously quality tested and backed by global customer support.

Doubling the speed of its predecessor, USB 3.2 Gen 2 features a maximum throughput of 10 Gb/s when used with compatible devices and is synonymous with USB 3.1 Gen 2.

Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.2 Gen 2 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

[28.5 lb] I have this set up for RAID 0 for video editing. Very impressed with the speed. The included software is great. I was able to set it up to back up hourly to another drive. Would buy again!

[28.5 lb] After I purchased 2 Thunderbay 8 for my media server, I decided to gue the 4 bay version for my personal computer (All Macs) I used to have the hard drives in cradles, and I was getting corruption issues all the time. After moving to these enclosures I haven't experienced ANY issues with the drives. Did I tell you that the speed performance is unbeatable? From USB 3ish to Thunderbolt makes a BIG difference.

[28.5 lb] When it comes to attached storage solutions for audio and video editing this is the best option I have used yet, and I have tried a lot. I primarily use a Mac Studio at this time as my revision 5,1 Mac Pro's have pretty much been retired at this point. A Mac Studio is great but lacks the storage capacity to be able to house data. After trying a plethora of external devices I ordered this Flex 8 and have to say, this thing has some power. I installed four 10TB NAS hard drives I had as a backup in a Raid array in an existing Mercury Rack Pro (USB 3.1, so I wanted to replace that for performance purposes) and then I added three 18TB NAS drives in a RAID array. That gave me 30TB of usable space on the first array and 36TB on the 2nd. Then I added an OWC Shuttle with four 4TB memory modules and I combined those into a RAID array as well, giving me 16TB of usable space. This one tower now provides me with 82TB of space and gets rid of all of the external drives and devices I had connected to my MAC Studio. Regarding performance, it's flawless. I am editing off the 16TB array which is blazing fast. I couldn't be happier with a device as I am with this one. The best part is the PCIE slot which is available for use. I'm looking forward to experimenting with that in the near future. This has really completed my edit bay setup as well as offered me a solid solution for data management. I highly recommend this unit for localized data management. It is very powerful and very well thought out. I also do like the software version as it puts the control at your fingertips. I hops this review helps someone looking for data management solutions.

[300] Using 8K Red Footage with very little compression. 2-3TB per day on this tv series and its holding up really well. No problems with it - transfers fast, plays fast barely any startup lag!

Good purchase!

[3x Fans] I bought this drive for 4k video work hoping for good storage and fast read/write speeds. This RAID PEGGED the BlackMagic disk speed tester !! Very fast and has been very easy to use. One thing to be careful of is to make sure you have the proper software and installed correctly.

[300] Seems like excellent build quality, great enclosure, good drive mounts, etc. My biggest issue right now is with SoftRAID, the included RAID management software. Setup was easy. I purchased the empty Thunderbay so I could add my own drives. Budget was an issue, so I only created the RAID5 array with 3 drives, planning on expanding to a 4th. Then I discovered that it is impossible to add drives like that. You have to completely back up everything, format all drives, rebuild a new array, and move everything back on to do this. Total pain!! Wish I'd known that ahead of time. I would still buy the product, but I would have set it up with all 4 drives the first time.

[28.5 lb] So far so good - easy to set up with my own drives and support raid 5.
