The Hoya C8 filter is helpful when:

  • You are using daylight-balanced film, the light source is warm, and you want to record accurate colors on the film. Examples of warm light sources are traditional light bulbs and some halogen bulbs.
  • You are shooting a daylight-balanced film and you want to create a day-for-night look. The extra blue cast will help give daytime that night feel, especially on overcast days.

Hoya multicoat (HMC) filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated lenses. These popular filters minimize reflection, reduce flare and ghosting, and result in over 97% average light transmission.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does Hoya manufacture this Circular Polarizer in a 95mm filter size?

A: Not currently, but they do have a 95mm Circular Polarizer Filter. Hoya 95mm Circular Polarizer Filter (BH #HOCP95 • MFR #B-95CRPL-GB)

Q: 2. I know that to use this filter on my Minolta X-700, I'd need to expose an additional 1 to 1 stops for pictures to turn out correctly. I'd like to use this filter for a Pentax K-500 Digital Camera. Would I need to many any stop adjustments like I would my Minolta? Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!!!

A: Yes, any circular polarizer will add stops to the exposure, it depends on the polarizer as to how many stops are added.

Q: 3. Is this the same filter as the Hoya NXT Circular Polarizer filter, just updated?

A: According to Hoya, the NXTPlus filters are improved over the NXT-series because they "use better glass, an improved multi-coating process, more multi-coated layers for better light transmission, AND add a new 'Waterproof' Top-coat to repel water quickly away from the surface which makes it easier to clean and more fun to use." For more info, please see Hoya's site here: https://bit.ly/3mo88dO

Q: 4. What's the difference between Hoya filters and Tiffen filters (the price)?

A: It depends on the particular filter you are looking at. If it is thinner to reduce vingetting with wide angle lenses. If it has any multi coatings to reduce reflections and ghosting. If it has any special coatings such as the nano coatings that beads water and makes it easier to clean.

Q: 5. Is this filter adjustable depending on how much you want have polarized? I mean, is it like the filter you turn to left or right depending the adjust you want to have?

A: Yes, a circular polarizer will rotate depending on the degree of polarization that you want in an image.

Q: 6. Will this filter fit on my nikon 18mm-55mm AF-S lens?

A: Yes it will. The Nikon 18-55mm lenses use 52mm sized filters.

Q: 7. Why won’t this filter tighten on my lens? It’s a 62mm and that what my lens takes.

A: The loose portion is the adjustment ring for polarization. Otherwise the filter will fit tight to your filter thread on the lens.

Q: 8. Is this 46 mm filter compatible with the 800mm PF lens Z Mount?

A: No, the Hoya 46mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer Filter will not work with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens. That lens can only use the Nikon C-PL460 Slip-In Circular Polarizer, BH #NICPL460 (https://bhpho.to/3HdDhfm).

Q: 9. Can a lens hood be attached & removed without taking off the filter first? Specifically referring to the 77 for a Canon 100-500

A: Yes, you can attach and remove a lens hood without any hinderance while the Hoya 77mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer Filter is attached.

Q: 10. What material is the metal?

A: They are made of aluminum.

[Aluminum] I had read reviews from others about using this filter along with a circular polarizer to make an inexpensive variable neutral density filter. So I gave it a try and it works great!

[Multi Coated] My original polarizer for this lens was cracked and I knew I needed a new one. I use it when taking pictures of sunsets, or if the sun is very bright throughout the day. It fits my lens well and the pricing on this item was very reasonable. I would recommend it to others. The delivery of the lens was very prompt. Ellen P.

[Glass] Great polarizer, bought on a whim. My usual weapon of choice would be a Tiffen, but they were back-ordered and I was impatient. No complaints with the Hoya whatsoever and it was competitively priced. Does the job as well as any other brand and it is well-built, smooth action on the ring.

[Multi Coated] As other Hoya products, this one doesn't disappoint. Filter and coating quality is excellent. DSLR users please note that this is a LINEAR polarizer. It won't work well with a standard digital camera! For DSLR you need a circular polarizer. I needed it for a special application.
