Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. just brought this unit and now it wont detect my mouse and remote doesn't work ?(already reset and tried different mouse)

A: The mouse needs to be plugged in before the machine is started.

Q: 2. Does this come with rack ears?

A: Rack ears should be included in the box

Q: 3. What Brand and Type HDD is Installed ?

A: Western Digital Purple HDD

Q: 4. Is it possible to view live output of all connected cameras on pc with lower specs? I tried IVMS, but with more then 4 cameras it is a heavy load on CPU.

A: No it is not. Live view of video requires a lot of bandwith.

Q: 5. Is there a quieter NVR that I can buy to replace this model, which came with the house I moved into? The fan is unbearably loud.

A: We are not aware that the Hikvision DS-7608NI-Q2/8P 8-Channel 4K UHD NVR with 2TB HDD BH #HI608NIQ28P2 emits an unacceptable level of fan noise.

Q: 6. must each camera home run back to NVR or can they be plugged into a switch?

A: You may connect the cameras to a PoE switch and then run one Ethernet cable back to the NVR from that PoE switch. Each camera does not have to home run back to the NVR.

Q: 7. Is this NVR compatible with the Hikvision phone app?

A: Yes, almost all Hikvision products can be integrated on the Hik-Connect mobile app for iPhone and Android.

Q: 8. Does it come with a wall plug? What type? The 'what's in the box' description' doesn't mention one. Thanks

A: Yes a power cable and AC wall plug is included. It is a two-bladed North American type.

Q: 9. Does this work with Zmodo 1080p spoe cameras?

A: This Hikvision NVR will work with most ONVIF cameras. ZMODO claims to be ONVIF compliant.

Q: 10. I am new to this (security camera's) and Hikvision seems to have SO MANY options and variations. I will have 4 (4mp) camera's and 2 (6mp) cameras for my house and hopefully set to record upon motion. How long will 2TB allow recording time wise before overwriting? Also what is the difference between Q2 and I2 versions of this NVR? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A: This NVR could easily store up to a month of footage depending upon the frequency of motion triggered events, frame rate and compression type chosen. The Q2 series tops out at 4K UHD (8mp) (1 camera) resolution and the I2 series will host up to 12 MP network cameras (Hikvision and third-party).

[3.1 lb / 1.4 kg] I bought this to replace a Truvision 4-Channel NVR. I am definitely not a novice but it was easy for me to setup and plug n play with Hikvision cameras. This is a nice upgrade with a good price.

[2 x USB 2.0] I bought this as part of the Dahua N488L64A system that comes with six 4k cameras. Take a look at my review of that system for more details.

This NVR supports Dahua's IVS, just make sure your cameras also support IVS.

Also, when shopping for an NVR pay attention to the Decoding Resolution spec. This tells you how many channels the NVR can support at certain camera resolutions and frame rates.

[100' / 30 m] I've accumulated different cameras from different manufacturers for years assuming they would be easy to install on IP NVRs and for the most part, they were until I got some newer 4K cameras and then it became a chore. Three different NVR's later I find one that works with all my cameras. The only real hassle, if I can call it that, was to have to go to the router as I hooked up each camera to see what address it was set to. Once I got it to recognize the cameras, the included software made it easy to get them all working. I have a simple 5 camera, 24hr recorded, home setup without all the motion detection or other options set, so it was pretty easy to get up and running. It works.

[10 to 90%] I had an older/cheaper Hikvision 1TB NVR that didn't have the latest software or capabilities. This unit is much easier to use, especially when you're looking for a specific event. Initial setup was a breeze. I took the older 1TB hard drive and installed into this unit. Instantly recognized it. What I don't like about it - and I've seen/read this from other users...the cooling fan is LOUD. Luckily my unit is in a utility room (washer/dryer) and the noise doesn't bother us. I did have a minor setup issue recognizing my newer Hikvision cameras - B&H technical got Hikvision USA on the phone with me. I didn't have the latest firmware loaded. New firmware fixed the issue. I also have the newest Hikvision WiFi doorbell connected to it. I highly recommend this unit if you're wanting to have the latest tech, reasonable costs, and a more capable NVR.

[H.265, H.264] Got this unit after returning the NXI Acusense model, which was a disappointment.
br
Configuration was a breeze, but it must be done locally. That is, hook up the monitor and USB mouse directly. After that you can disconnect the monitor and the mouse and manage the unit headless by iVMS-4200 software installed on a PC or Mac on the local network. Or remotely, but to do that, the configuration is a bit more complex.

I use it with a mix of genuine US Hikvision cameras and cheap ONVIF-compatible cameras. I do not use the cloud, because I configured remote access.
br
Going from QNAP NAS to the Hikvision NVR was like a night and day experience. This is a rock solid NVR. Feature-rich, configurable, full time recording without skipping a beat, remote access and playback though the Hik Connect mobile app are just a few things to mention. The Hik Connect mobile app is also very good and easy to use, unlike most other Chinese-made apps that are buggy, filled with spelling errors in the UI. And YES, unlike the NXI Acusense model, the firmware in this model is regularly updated and email notifications work properly.
br
The unit is well built but it is loud. Unless you are are hearing impaired you will not be able to keep it in a living room, bedroom, or media room. It works for me because I keep it in a utility room.
br
All in all, I highly recommend this model for home or business use.
