    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the lens outomatic or manual?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT Lens for Micro Four Thirds is a manual lens.

Q: 2. Is this rectilinear zero-D? Like the 7.5mm MFT, thanks.

A: According to the manufacturer, the lens is not Zero-D but its very minimal.

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with the OM-1 Mark II? Looking for fast-wide for landscape and astrophotography.

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D Lens (Micro Four Thirds) is compatible with the OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II Mirrorless Camera.

    Q: 4. Will this lens work with OM-D E-m10 Mark4?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT Lens for Micro Four Thirds is compatible with the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV Mirrorless Camera. However, this manual lens does not support autofocus or any lens-to-camera communication.

Q: 5. It uses 58mm filter, can you please suggest a clear protection filter without cause vignetting?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D Lens (Micro Four Thirds) can use any 58mm UV filter design for wide-angle lenses to prevent vignetting in long exposures. Please review the link shown below for a compatible UV filter: https://bhpho.to/3Iovhsa

Q: 6. Does the Komodo get any info from this lens. Such as what distance it's focused at, or F-stop?

A: no it will not, the RF mount on the Komodo is NOT a smart mount, in addition to that this lens does NOT have any electronic contacts to pass data to any camera

Q: 7. I want to mount a graduated ND filter to the front, it is about 3mm thick. Will this cause even more vignetting?

A: A filter would not be the cause of vignetting with the Venus Optics Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D lens. If you use a wide filter holder such as (BH #LEARWA58HK) you should be ok. Keep in mind extreme wide angle lenses will have some degree of darkening at the edges and will be the most pronounced at the widest apertures. This is usually easily corrected in image editing software.

    Q: 8. Compatible with Panasonic GH1 camera?

A: Yes, the Loawa 6mm f/2 Zero-D Lens for Micro Four Thirds is compatible with the Panasonic GH1. Please be aware that this lens has a manual-focus design.

Q: 9. Is this lens suitable for infrared photography; does it produce any hotspots?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D Lens (Micro Four Thirds) is fine for infrared photography and others. It is a sharp lens. Note, it is a manual lens and does not support autofocus.

Q: 10. Does the focus ring has hard stops?

A: Yes, the focus ring on the Venus Optics Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT Lens for Micro Four Thirds has a hard stop at infinity and at the minimum focus distance.

[5] This is everything I've been missing for MFT - finally wide enough to feel wide, but without the fisheye look. Solid little lens with a metal body, but still very small and light. Have used for video shoots both on a BMPCC 4K and a GH6 - great on both...

[0.85 lb] I have the Laowa 10mm which is quite sharp and comes close to the claimed zero distortion, so I was curious about the 6mm. I was skeptical of the YouTube reviews where the guy raves it's sharp as a saber! Only one review, Photoblograper, said the lens was soft in the corners, which would not be suprising for a 6mm.

So...is it sharper than a ninja sword or mush in the corners? To my amazement, it's pretty sharp wide open, totally usable even in the exteme corners--IF--you don't mind the expected loss of corner illumination, aka vignetting. Optimal sharpness seems to be around f/2.8 but for even illumination in the corners, I'd use f/4 or smaller. I happen to like darker corners and often darken them in Lightroom, but that's what I was taught in the Ansel Adams books so maybe that's no longer in fashion.

I need to repeat the test, but it seems image quality dips after f/4, then returns at f/8. Unusual. Zero distorton? No, but pretty close. If you're aware of the incredibly high barrel distortion in most digital camera ultra-wide lenses, you'll realize how impressive it is to get close to zero at 6mm (equivalent to 12mm on full frame).

In short (no pun intended) here's another reason to like m43. A tiny, reasonably priced ultra-wide. Even if you don't use it every day, it won't be a hassle to have with you, just in case.

[5] Great build and image quality. It's wide (and m4/3), so manual focusing is no problem. In low light use MF assist and focus peaking at f/2. In bright light use f/8 and good old-fashioned zone focusing.

[f/16] I am here to say I love Laowa lenses. I have half a dozen of them and plan to buy more. I particularly love how compact and light they are, the optics (Laowa really does innovative and highly differentiated things), the build quality and handling, and more recently, I love that they are making manual-focus lenses for Micro Four Thirds with electronic contacts to communicate EXIF and an electronic aperture (so I can focus wide open and have the lens stop down to the selected aperture just in time to take the shot). It is the best of all worlds and I wish more companies making manual focus lenses would add these features. I do not wish for autofocus; just for the rest of the electronics.

[f/2] I love this lens! The build quality is top notch, and the focusing is really smooth. I've been using it for astrophotography, and some interior architecture shots, and am delighted with the results. With a lens this wide, I can take night time exposures up to 40 seconds long before having to worry about star trails. Very sharp and the minimum focusing distance is amazing also. Highly recommended!
