Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this have the locking mechanism so the hood doesn't turn?

A: Yes, the Sigma LH878-03 Lens Hood for 24-70mm f/2.8 Art DG DN does lock in place when installed on the lens. The hood features a release button on the side of the hood allowing you to remove it.

Q: 2. Hello: what advantages and disadvantages of this lens, compared to the Sony FE 50mm f / 2.8 Macro Lens ?, thanks in advance

A: While we have not had a chance to try this lens out, on paper the differences would be the focal length (35mm versus 50mm), the wider aperture (f/2 versus f/2.8), minimum focusing distance (35mm has 10" versus 50mm's 6"), autofocus speed (macro lenses are typically slower).

Q: 3. There's a ring to select aperture on this lens. However, is it still possible to dial the aperture from the aperture wheel on the SL rather than through the aperture ring on the lens?

A: Yes there is a way. Turn the aperture ring to "A" (like it shows in the photo) and you'll have control through the camera instead of the lens.

Q: 4. Is weather sealing same for both L-Mount and Sony Mount?

A: The Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Leica L has the exact same build quality as the Sony mount version. Both versions are weather sealed.

Q: 5. I see from the photos that the aperture rings move in 1/3 stops. Will it give the same effect as de-clicked aperture of a cine lens? Or will the jumps be noticeable? Thanks

A: From our tests in the store using the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN C, the effect is not quite similar to a de-clicked aperture ring. Firstly, there is an audible click when rotating the physical aperture ring. Secondly, there is a split-second latency even in Aperture Priority where the exposure adjusts and the shutter speed/ISO raises in order to compensate for the change. We had a much more seamless effect when the lens is set to "A" and we adjusted the aperture via the dials as we did not hear the click nor did we see any visible exposure change.

Q: 6. Is this the updated lens hood for the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens for Canon EF ? The earlier version had poor reviews, and reliability issues.

A: No, the Sigma Lens Hood for 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens will not work on the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens. This hood is designed specifically for the mirrorless Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens. This will not work on the SLR lens.

Q: 7. Can you reverse this hood to store over the lens barrel when you don't need it?

A: Yes the lens hood can be reverse-mounted on the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens.

Q: 8. Why no data in the Specs page? is this lens weather-proof?

A: This Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Leica L, would have a Weather-Sealed Construction.

Q: 9. Does this protect the lens?

A: Yes, the Sigma Lens Hood for 24-70mm f/2.8 Art DG DN II Lens protects the lens if you hit it against something. It also shades the lens from flare and ghosting while taking pictures.

Q: 10. Can autofocus on this lens be turned on and off from the camera body? Thanks.

A: If the camera you own has the ability to turn the autofocus feature on and off via the camera's menu, then yes, it can be done from either the camera body via the menu or via the AF/MF switch on the lens. When you disable the autofocus either via the camera's menu or directly on the lens, you would enable the fine focus ring function for manual focus usage needs.

[0.08 lb] This is an extraordinarily good lens at this price point. Very little flare, excellent edge sharpness wide open and good color correction. The motor is virtually silent. It’s fine as a prime lens, light and yet solidly constructed.

[0.08 lb] It's the OEM lens hood to go with my Sigma 19mm and 30mm f/2.8 DN Art lenses. Fits perfectly and does what a hood needs to do. Haven't really tested the optical effects of the hood because I mostly bought it for protection of the front element

[0.08 lb] My sharpest lens has always been my Voigtlander 65mm APO. This one competes with it and is more useful since it is autofocus and more compact. The results on my A7RIIIa are stunning. High contrast and exceptional sharpness,.

[0.08 lb] I used to have the Zeiss 55mm 1.8 and it was everything they said about it but it didn't felt right for my, this sigma is not as sharp as the 55mm, nor as an 85mm but it's unique look makes it an amazing portrait lens, the rendering is really good and I prefer the warmer colors from sigma, I had the 65mm before and sold it for the 55 but now I got it back again also because of the weather sealing the 65mm is a well rounded option.

[0.08 lb] I've always liked the 35mm focal length, and when I bought my Sony camera, I researched all available 35mm lenses. I read available reviews and it came down between the Sigma and the the Sony 35mm GM f1.4.

I tried the Sony, but, though reviewers say it is light and small for what it is, it was simply too big (long). Also, I do not need f1.4. The Sigma is not all that different from the Sony in the way the two lenses render, and differences in sharpness are small enough for me. Given the price of the two lenses, my decision was easy to make.

I looked at the Sony f1.8, the Sony f2.8, the Samyang 2.8 and 1.8, but I find a lens without an aperture ring not as inspiring.

This Sigma is sharp enough and has a pleasant rendering, and the price is right. I like it!

This is one of the reviews for the lens I relied on, before buying it:

[0.08 lb] Something less than a 85 but more than 50
Sharp with beautiful bokeh at the wide end
Spends more and more of its time on the camera

[0.08 lb] So far I'm really liking this lens . I've just shot some landscape and nature photos with it and some of the wife around the house. I got it for live music photography and videography mainly. I haven't had a chance to shoot that with it so far .
But for landscape and nature "wow" . Love the colors and sharpness. It took a couple hours for shooting landscape with it and learning framing, composition with 65mm . Once I started getting a feel for it I was really liking it .
The images off this lens are hands down beautiful. I'd read reviews that it was sterile in its rendering because it was so perfect. Not true at al . It is very perfect but has a beautiful rendering that just happens to be perfection.
It for environmental portraiture at 65mm is nice . There is subject isolation but with enough surrounding to tell a story . An 85 can do that but it's like the best of both a 50 and an 85 . Very normal looking almost to a fault and this is where some folks will create that sterile type image . So be creative with your composition and work to tell that story .
Peace and don't get one of these lenses. I want the originality of the guy shooting the 65 .

[0.08 lb] I’m crazy about all the lenses in Sigma’s DG DN Contemporary line. The 35mm f/2 is simply perfect for my needs. I shoot events and like to use a prime to cover the close-in images of people in action. The Sigma’s compact size, light weight and strong performance at wide apertures gives me the images I’m looking for.
