Doubling the speed of its predecessor, USB 3.2 Gen 2 features a maximum throughput of 10 Gb/s when used with compatible devices and is synonymous with USB 3.1 Gen 2.

From high-demand production studios to your home office, the Mercury Elite Pro Dual integrates with any work environment. Dual drive bays let you install your choice of 2.5 or 3.5" SSDs or HDDs. Built-in hardware RAID gives you enhanced data protection or maximum throughput.

OWC's free Dock Ejector app lets you safely dismount the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual and any additional external drives connected to it from your computer in a single click. You'll be sure that all data has been safely written before any drive is unmounted, protecting against accidental data loss or corruption.

The Mercury Elite Pro Dual is compact and portable, leaving you more workspace. It connects to any Windows or Mac computer with an available USB port. You can also work cross-platform with Macs and Windows computers using OWC's MacDrive software, available separately.

Active workspaces expose gear to bumps, shoves, and the random tail wag from a pet. Just one ill-timed touch can cause an accidental cable disconnection, interrupting your workflow. Optional OWC ClingOn custom cable stabilizers screw into the housing to secure your USB Type-C connections so you can work with confidence even in the highest foot-traffic environments.

Get started right out of the box thanks to included USB Type-C and Type-C to A cables.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this drive have an on and off switch?

A: Yes, it does have an on/off switch.

Q: 2. I have this drive array with smaller drives and I would like to replace them with larger drives. How would I do that? What specs do I need for the drives? How do I transfer data from the existing drives? How do I install the new drives? Many thanks!

A: You will need to backup the information to an external drive and use any larger capacity SATA III 3.5" Drives. You would use a checksum software which is great to have for large and critical files. This can check every bit of the transfer and provide verification. A checksum software to look into Hedge. Please see the link: https://hedge.video/hedge. One can technically transfer files/folders from the source to the new destination, but it is a nice safety measure to get verification at the end of the transfer. After backing up, install the new drives and build the RAID you want and transfer the data to the new drives. Also check the link below for the drive assembly instructions. https://www.owcdigital.com/assets/products/mercury-elite-pro-dual-thunderbolt/mep-dual-tb-usb-guide.pdf

Q: 3. Is there any security such as password protection on this drive?

A: No, there are no built in security features.

Q: 4. Does this come with a Thunderbolt cable?

A: Yes, the Thunderbolt cable is included, as well as a USB 3.0 cable.

Q: 5. When these drives are full, will I be able to put new drives in and continue to use the enclosure for a new Raid?

A: Yes, you can install new drives and create a new RAID volume.

Q: 6. will this work with a USB 2?

A: Yes, it will work, though very slowly.

Q: 7. If one of the drives goes bad, will I be able to open the enclosure, replace the drive, and have the RAID rebuild the backup given I have it set to Raid 1?

A: Yes.

Q: 8. What is the read/write speed?

A: 397 Read 389 Write via USB 3.1 using the AJA System Test.

Q: 9. Does this come with two hdds? What brand/model?

A: At this time we are shipping this with a pair of Toshiba 2TB drives.

Q: 10. does it work with one drive only?

A: Yes, if you were to set the RAID configuration to JBOD or SPAN and then removed one of the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 40TB 2-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Array with 3-Port Hub's (2 x 20TB) two induced drives it would work with just one drive installed.

[40 TB] I have 3 of these. Love them. Very fast and I trust them to hold all of my 6k movie footage. Very Important stuff on here!

[40 TB] Great price point for this amount of storage. As others have said, it can be a bit loud but I'm not utilizing this for any post-processing power so it isn't a constant annoyance at my side. It's for archiving more than anything and I'm using all of the smaller SSDs that have piled up for post work.

[40 TB] This is my second OWC drive and like my original, this is a high quality drive that is built like a tank and works flawlessly. I am not a high tech guy but I don't think they make them any better than this. This is a plug-N-play with simple directions that allow you to have it up and running in minutes. You can use it as a mirrored drive or load up the two drives independent of one another. it is virtually silent and turns itself on and off. Great product!

[40 TB] These drives are a great combination of performance and value - super fast and reliable, one of our production must haves - we cannot afford to have slow, unreliable media on set - These OWC's have never failed us!

[1250 MB/s ] So far this product is great, its super fast, quiet, small. easy to install the drives and the instructions are clear and concise. I've transfered 2TB without any issues. If I had to find an issue it would be hard, it does have a slight click when you select it in finder that may bother someone (not me)!

[40 TB] OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro Dual 6TB 2-Bay USB 3.1 Gen 1 RAID Array (2 x 3TB)

Purchased this to use on my Windows 10 computer at home.  Works like a charm.  Using it in RAID 0 mode for video editing.  Spins up very quickly.  Very quiet too, not hearing any high-pitched noise from the fan that some people are reporting.  Using the eSATA connection via a SATA-eSATA bracket which allows me to connect directly to the motherboards SATA port.  Read/write speeds are very good, much better than USB 3.

Only complaint I have, which others have as well, is that the lights are WAY too bright.  I plan on opening the case up and taping some ND gel to the inside in front of the lights to darken them a bit.

Highly recommend this external drive enclosure for those looking for more drive space with quick read/write speeds.

[Aluminum] Shifted itunes to Mercury Elite Pro Dual 4TB (2 x 2TB) Two-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Solution to free up space on imac early 2008, works a treat and imac along with upgraded RAM to 6gig is so much faster. Great product, used in RAID 1.

[8.95 lb] Making mirrored backups of image files. Have several OWC external drives and no problems with any of them. This is Thunderbolt 1 not Thunderbolt 2 but it's extremely fast. A power switch would be nice but easy enough to unplug the Thunderbolt cable. USB 3 adds flexibility.
