Doubling the performance of the previous generation, the PCIe 5.0 x16 expansion slot bandwidth can reach up to 128 GB/s. Advanced SMT (Surface Mount Technology) diminishes interference and electrical noise. The slot is also steel reinforced with soldered connections to support heavy graphics cards.

Kick load times to the curb. In addition to supporting four 6 Gb/s SATA III drives, the M.2 PCIe 5.0 slot can deliver up to 128 Gb/s transfer speeds with compatible NVMe SSDs. There are also three M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots that support up to 64 Gb/s transfers. Installed SATA and M.2 drives may be put in RAID 0, 1, or 10 modes.

The rear panel includes one 20 Gb/s USB-C 2x2 port, a one 10 Gb/s USB-C, and two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports. There are also four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports that can transfer 5 Gb/s with compatible devices. HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 connectors allow you to take advantage of processors with integrated graphics.

Front panel headers support one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port alongside four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 and four USB-A 2.0 ports.

The 14+2+1 phase power system features an aggressive VRM design with a digital CPU power system and Core Boost technology to help sustain heavy gaming loads.

Support for AMD Expo technology simplifies CPU and memory overclocking.

[4x 288-Pin] Another good purchase from B&H. Upgraded my old MSI z490 Godlike/ I9 10900K over to a MSI Mpg x670E Carbon and a 7800x3d AMD processor. Installed board, cpu, 64gb fresh ddr5 and bolted my old 280mm Kraken up and everything booted right up without a hitch. Runs Flawless

[4x 288-Pin] Motherboard does what it should. The wifi antena also helps with bluetooth range on my headphones. Many complain on very slow booting (mine was actually 1m45s because of amount of RAM)- that's true BUT HERE's a FIX:

1. Go to BIOS (press Delete after it completes the long post), then
2. in BIOS click on Advanced (or press F7),
3. on the left click on OC window
4. on the right under DRAM Settnigs find Memory Context Restore and change it to Enabled . Auto (default) doesn't help.
5. Save, exit and reboot.

It'll go thru the same long post (it's actually training memory sticks) once again and that's it. Next reboot or fresh boot is super quick! I hope it helps. MY configuration is Ryzen 7 7800X3D,AIO, 64 GB DDR5 (dual channel), 1TB T700, and my old 2080 card.

[ATX] I just plugged things in and it worked. The bios is simple enough to navigate. It was able to update all of its own drivers through Windows update.

Make sure to follow the QR code on the box to get a PDF of the manual; the quick-start guide that's included in the box is pretty inadequate. (Doesn't tell you which DIMM slots to start with, or how to access the m.2 ports.)

[AM5] I had originally purchased a different motherboard and CPU. However, the other motherboard required a bios update in order for it to be compatible with the CPU that was bundled with it. There was no way to update the BIOS on that motherboard without it being in an working system. This motherboard however can have the BIOS flashed with nothing but power connected to it.
That made all the difference in the world to me, a novice builder who was working on his second build. I'm also impressed with the quality of the motherboard itself. Everything about it feels substantial. If I ever build another system, I'll likely look at MSI motherboards first.

[ATX] One of my favorite ways to judge a boards stability is whether it sleeps and wakes properly. This one does. Other aspects: I've got reasonably fast ram timings on stock voltage. 6200 Mhz with 32,39,39,102. It did not like the XMP3 out of the box, which would have been the same timing but 6400 Mhz but its because I'm running 2x32 sticks and the manual says to expect no better than 6000. My cpu runs very cool... an i7 13700K cooled with a Corsair H170I Elite Capellix 420 mm AIO cooler in a Lian Li Lancool III White RGB. It holds at 75C for a full load cinebench. I did use a Thermal Right LGA1700-BCF BLACK contact frame for better heatsink seating. Arctic MX-6 Thermal paste. it idles in the ~30C range. Gaming it stays in the 40's most of the time with only incursion into the 50C range. the highest I've seen gaming is 58C which is great.

the boards soundcard the Realtek 4080 is an improvement over the 1220 it replaced. they both sound great but the 4080 is fuller and louder.

I love the intel 1226v NIC. My switch supports and I get the full speed.

4-NVME's is a great option. I'm only using 2 but will add more.

This replaced a Ryzen 9 5950X. It is faster for almost everything, but for my primary box this is a great machine.

I recommend the MAG-Z790-TOMAHAWK-WIFI

[4x SATA III] This motherboard is well made and has all the IO I need. I cannot speak for overclocking capabilities as I do not plan to use the, but the 2.5gb network port is nice along with bulletin Bluetooth. M2. card install was was and so was the setup.

[4x 288-Pin] Amazon did not have in stock, so purchased from here. Received in excellent condition after shipping & got all items specified supplied. After few weeks usage, no problems have arised. All the connectors work. This board is a bit more expensive compared to asus, but with recent asus news of customer services, i decided to go with msi.

[5.3] It's an amazing MoBo!
Maybe a small drawback with the design of the cooler for Gen4 M2 SSDs which is a single piece for both SSDs so you can either install 2 SSDs without a heatsing or can't use the suppliet heatsing.
Gen2 M2 slots have separate heatsink for each of the 2 M2 slots.

Beware the WD SN850X SSDs - these aren't detected in this MB's Gen4 M2 ports (firth the latest BIOS and firmware as of Dec 2023), but are seen in Gen5. Both WD SN850 and SN850X seem to work in the Gen5 M2 slots but you waste Gen5 slot for a Gen4 drive and in general there seem to be a lot of compatibility issues between these Western Digital SSDs and X570 & X670 chipsets (across various MB manufacturers).

Otherwise I love the this motherboard, and I think the compatibility problem is rather issue of Western Digital SN850(X) M2 SSDs
