The OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 40TB Thunderbolt 2 RAID Arrayfrom OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 40TB Thunderbolt 2 RAID Arrayfeatures two bays that each sport a 20TB hard drive to deliver a total raw capacity of 40TB for your Thunderbolt-equipped system. The two 3.5" hard drives are preconfigured in a hardware RAID 0 array that strips the data across both drives to provide speeds of up to 474 MB/s. You can reconfigure the drives in a RAID 1, SPAN, or individual mode utilizing the hardware RAID controller. Other notable features include an aluminum enclosure and a quiet fan to cool the drives and internal components.

To keep up with the fast transfer speeds from the drives, the dual Thunderbolt 2 ports have a 20 Gb/s bi-directional channel for each port. However, here in the question and answer it states the read write speed is only around 400mb/s/ Curious as to which one is accurate for the read/write speed actually is for the 3.2?

A: USB 3.2 gen 1 supports up to 10Gbps (1250MB/s). The read and write speed will depend on several factors including the drives being used and the RAID mode being used. OWC mentions how they got those numbers on their website: Up to 1026MB/s sequential read/write performance with 2 x 1.0TB Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSDs in RAID 0 connected to a Windows 10 PC (GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 motherboard with 16GB RAM, Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz processor) running Crystal Disk Mark 7.0.0x64 (1GB test size, Q8T1). [7.715 lb] Video Media storage with a Mac Studio Ultra. Maximizing storage speeds with NVME in RAID 0, though heatsinks might improve it a bit further. Speed tests indicate it can handle up to some types of 12K footage. Cruising through multicam 4K footage in conjunction with NVME media cache. SoftRAID keeps asking for the activation code for some reason. OWC needs to fix that. Only 2 months in but working as advertised so far.

[Aluminum] It's hard to believe how much storage I have with the speed it provides. This thing came ready to use out of the box. No software needed to get it going.

[40 TB] Shifted itunes to Mercury Elite Pro Dual 4TB (2 x 2TB) Two-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Solution to free up space on imac early 2008, works a treat and imac along with upgraded RAM to 6gig is so much faster. Great product, used in RAID 1.

[Aluminum] OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro Dual 6TB 2-Bay USB 3.1 Gen 1 RAID Array (2 x 3TB)

Purchased this to use on my Windows 10 computer at home.  Works like a charm.  Using it in RAID 0 mode for video editing.  Spins up very quickly.  Very quiet too, not hearing any high-pitched noise from the fan that some people are reporting.  Using the eSATA connection via a SATA-eSATA bracket which allows me to connect directly to the motherboards SATA port.  Read/write speeds are very good, much better than USB 3.

Only complaint I have, which others have as well, is that the lights are WAY too bright.  I plan on opening the case up and taping some ND gel to the inside in front of the lights to darken them a bit.

Highly recommend this external drive enclosure for those looking for more drive space with quick read/write speeds.

[1x Fan] This is my second OWC drive and like my original, this is a high quality drive that is built like a tank and works flawlessly. I am not a high tech guy but I don't think they make them any better than this. This is a plug-N-play with simple directions that allow you to have it up and running in minutes. You can use it as a mirrored drive or load up the two drives independent of one another. it is virtually silent and turns itself on and off. Great product!

[40 TB] Making mirrored backups of image files. Have several OWC external drives and no problems with any of them. This is Thunderbolt 1 not Thunderbolt 2 but it's extremely fast. A power switch would be nice but easy enough to unplug the Thunderbolt cable. USB 3 adds flexibility.

[40 TB] So far this product is great, its super fast, quiet, small. easy to install the drives and the instructions are clear and concise. I've transfered 2TB without any issues. If I had to find an issue it would be hard, it does have a slight click when you select it in finder that may bother someone (not me)!
