Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the Miller Compass 12 fluid head work with this tripod?

A: It depends on the tie down. You need the one with the smaller diameter, otherwise it won´t work

Q: 2. What is the folded diameter?

A: The widest folded diameter would be at the head which would be 5".

Q: 3. Can the flowtech 75 be adapted to fit a 100mm head? If so which adapter works best?

A: The Sachtler flowtech 75 legs will only accept 75mm bowls. For compatibility for both 75mm and 100mm bowl tripod heads the Sachtler flowtech 100 MS Carbon Fiber Tripod (SKU: SA5585) would support 100mm bowls as well as a 100mm to 75mm adapter such as the Sachtler SA3906 to support 75mm bowl heads. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1431234-REG/sachtler_5585_flowtech_100_ms_carbon.html/accessories https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/78905-REG/Sachtler_3906_Adapter_75_100_75mm_Ball.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 4. Does anyone know if this will work with a FLM CP34-L4 II 10X Carbon Fiber Series II Tripod? Thanks

A: no it does not appear that this will work with this tripod https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1514023-REG/flm_32_34_903_cp34_l4_ii_carbon_tripod.html/overview as the tripod does not seem to support a standard 75mm half ball

Q: 5. It can support up to 44lbs, but are their any 75mm heads that support more than 20lbs?

A: The Miller 1036 is a 75mm Head with a 26.46 pound load capacity, B&H # MI1036. We also have the Libec RH45D which has a 26.5 lb capacity, B&H # LIRH45D.https://bhpho.to/2yO7Ffjhttps://bhpho.to/2hqIeZt

Q: 6. Does it fit in a pelican air case?

A: For the tripod legs, the Pelican 1615AirTP Wheeled Check-In Case with TrekPak Insert (Black) BH #PE1615ACTPBK • MFR #016150-0050-110 can be looked into. https://bhpho.to/3956Vkf There are as well dedicated tripod hard cases for tripod systems which can be viewed here. https://bhpho.to/34THZst

Q: 7. Is it difficult to tighten this to the video head? There are no locking screws like those used on the Manfrotto model.

A: No, simply turn the lever clockwise and your video head will lock.

Q: 8. Is there a centre column available for this tripod?

A: The ProMediaGear TR424L Pro-Stix Carbon-Fiber Tripod with Top Plate (Black, 77") is compatible with the TR42C Carbon Fiber Center Column for 42 Series Tripods. Unfortunately, B&H does not carry it at this time. I will email B&H management to see if we can carry it. It is listed here: https://bhpho.to/4enzbzZ

Q: 9. Hi, I am 6'3" and I am wondering if I should get the tallest one? 6.7-77. Thank you in advance

A: In general I recommend that your tripod should be at least within 9 inches of your height. So a tripod and head that goes to 66 inches or more is best.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the Nicky tripod byb3 Legged Thing? Thanks!

A: The 3 Legged Thing Legends Nicky 4-Section Carbon Fiber Hybrid Video/Photo Tripod is compatible with the ProMediaGear Pro-Stix 75mm Half Ball, when configured to receive a 75mm bowl adapter (not flat base adapter).

[Carbon Fiber] I can tell this tripod will last. I will never need to buy another. (I have 2 others anyway). Combined with a Wimberley 200 I'm looking forward to many successful bird shots.

[Yes] I love this tripod!! While I have never spent this much on a tripod before, I am very happy I did, It holds my old and heavy Nikon 600mm with a gimbal perfectly, I also use it on the beach setup very low and it is awesome!!

[3 Positions] This is the best tripod for shooting with my Nikon D850, which has a super sensitive 45.7 mp sensor. Took great, sharp pics of a full moon the other night that my cheaper Manfrotto tripod would not allow, especially using my Nikon 200-500 zoom lens. The height of the tripod allowed me at my own height of 6' 2" to stand and look up and not have to stoop.

[Carbon Fiber] This Tripod is a beast but fairly light & compact. It's quality made in the USA which was why I purchased this Tripod from ProMediaGear. It also looked like you were getting a better product for less money than some of the competitors. I needed something steady enough to hold a 600mm long lens this Tripod has a 125 lb rating. It's also tall enough for most situations. The legs are adjustable so if it's too tall just adjust it to make it shorter & your back will thank you. It wasn't cheap but I'm happy with my purchase.

[3/8"-16 Male] I just got the TR424L as my new primary tripod and I couldn't be happier. As B&H was out of stock I ordered from PMG directly.

Pros:

Incredible build and craftsmanship.

42mm top leg diameter is best in class.

77" maximum height so you're prepared for most any terrain.

Modular possibilities with numerous apex attachment points.

Top plate quick release mechanism.

The free push/pull angle lock mechanisms are much better than spring-loaded ratcheting-style legs.

Built-in foot spikes.

PMG makes a well priced leveling base.

Truly exceptional customer service experience!!

Cons:

6lbs. Depending on your situation, the 34 series may be more practical.

Using PMG leveling base sacrifices the hook under the apex.

Leveling base itself could use a bubble level.

My biggest complaint... now I want to buy more PMG tripods!

Verdict: this is the finest tripod I have ever owned.

[4] Best tripod I have ever owned

[3 Positions] I've had many high-end tripods, including Gitzo, Miller, and Satchler. This ProMediaGear is absolutely stunning, both in looks, build quality, and stability. The 42mm (measures almost 43mm) upper leg diameter is the widest carbon single-tube leg I've found. Besting my Gitzo Series 5 which measures at 40-41mm. I bought this PMG specifically for video use with a Miller fluid head and PMG's optional 75mm bowl in place of the included standard flat plate. Works beautifully.

This tripod is seriously well made. I'd venture that it's more thought-out with higher quality finishing and design touches than Gitzo. There is no plastic that I can find (nor is there on Gitzo). Everything is machined aluminum, stainless hardward, and carbon. The machining is something to behold.

For video, the stability (which I'd argue is needed even more than still photography) seems excellent-which it should with those huge diameter legs. The diameter of a leg (carbon or aluminum) has a bigger impact on the stability than just about anything else. No need to screw with twin-tube video tripods and that annoying spreader. Huge added bonus is the flexibility in positioning and height with this style tripod over a video tripod with a spreader. This PMG (like many others, to be fair) can independently change leg angle for uneven outdoor situations (I've found myself crouched up against a boulder or tree, with the tripod in weird leg contortions on many occasions).

For still photo shooters, I'd keep in mind there is no center column included, though PMG does offer one for this tripod. This particular model (the 77) has a ton of height, but it were doing only stills, I'd go with the shorter model and get a center column. A center column is amazingly handy for small height adjustments without messing with all 3 legs and your level.

[4] I have had no less than 10 professional tripods in my career. I only wish this was available when I started out and I would have saved money in the long run. The build quality and materials are better than any other tripod I have tried or owned. The 125lb load capacity means that it not only is my primary photo tripod, it also works as the base for my camera job with the counter weights as well as my regular video rig. The 75mm bowl adapter is precision CNC and it fits like a glove. The 1/4-20 female taps save the frustration of using super clamps or other gizmos to have a monitor or tablet close. I've only used it a couple of times in the field so far but I already have 2 video tripods and one photo tripod for sale on eBay. I called the company to ask about a center column. the owner answered and was terrific. Made in USA is a plus too. It's an investment but it sure looks like it's the only investment you'll need to make if you plan on shooting for years to come.

[Carbon Fiber] The tripod is fantastic - I would go so far as to say dont worry about the extra couple of pounds over the 34mm leg model. I have a Manfrotto 055Pro Carbon Fiber and this PMG model actually carries better in my opinion. Regarding PMG, I asked 3 questions on as many occasions on their website and each one was responded to within a few hours. The push-pull leg joints are much better than spring loaded and quicker to adjust. I ordered a full-size Katana gimbal to go on this to replace a Manfrotto heavy lens support gimbal. Great stuff.
