Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the firmware on the 6TB drives?

A: We do not have information about which firmware is installed into the Seagate 6TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR) BH #SEST6000NT01.

Q: 2. can we mix seagate pros w seagate regular ironwolfs in a nas?

A: You can mix, but you would be limiting your self to the performance of the lowest spec drive and if in a Raid 0 or other striped raid array your level of safety would be reduced to the lowest drive.

Q: 3. Will these work in the LaCie 2big 12TB 2-Bay Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array?

A: No. The 8TB Ironwolf Pro HDD is the largest drive compatible with the LaCie 2big controller. Please reference the drive compatibility list linked here. https://www.lacie.com/support/kb/lacie-big-products-drive-compatibility-list-007780en/

Q: 4. Will these drives work in a SanDisk Professional G-RAID?

A: Yes, you can use the Seagate 20TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR, Retail, 2-Pack) in a SanDisk Professional G-RAID.

Q: 5. Are these drives new or reconditioned?

A: All items on the site are new unless specifically marked used or refurbished.

Q: 6. I intend to hook up 4 of these as part of a RAID 0 array to boost performance speeds while doing photo editing and graphics intensive work. Is this ideal for RAID 0, or are they better options out there? WD Black or Seagate Barracuda Pro perhaps?

A: The Seagate 6TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (Retail) BH #SEST6000N000 is a good option for a RAID array and although they are designed as NAS drives, they would work in a desktop environment just as well. The Barracuda Pro and WD Black would also be good options and designed specifically for desktop use.

Q: 7. What does CMR information means?

A: "CMR" on this Seagate 18TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III Internal NAS HDD (CMR) would be Conventional Magnetic Recording.

Q: 8. Can this work as an internal drive on a Dell Precision Workstation 3620?

A: The Seagate 16TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR), BH #SEST16000NT1, is not compatible with your desktop. The Dell Precision Workstation 3620 supports up to 2TB of storage. https://bhpho.to/3SJ5vn2

Q: 9. I'm looking at the 20TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro ST20000NT001. Does Seagate support their warranty for sales thru B&H?

A: Yes, the Seagate 20TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR) BH #SEST20000NT1 comes with a 5 year warranty with Seagate. We are an Authorized Seagate Dealer.

Q: 10. What NAS systems will work with these 22TB drives?

A: This Seagate 22TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD will work with any NAS that accepts 3.5" hard drives with a capacity of 22TB or more. That would encompass scores of options, far too many to list, so it is usually better to pick out a NAS first and the hard drives second.

[22 TB] This is a great hard drive for server use or file backups, which is using this for both. If I need to expand my storage needs these are the first I'd consider getting again.

[9.2 x 6.1 x 3"] This is a bare drive ready to install. All that needs to be done is hook up the power and SATA cable then initialize and format the drive.
The drive is nice and quiet. It was designed to be running all day every day for years, unlike some consumer drives.

[22 TB] These drives work great in my Synology 6 Bay Nas -

[550 TB] I purchased 5 of these for use in in a Synology 1522. As others have warned, you get a warning message but after accepting, the Synology shows these as healthy and has no issues using them. Write performance in a RAID 6 has no trouble maxing a 1GbE connection. I’m sure 2.5 would be no issue. Internal read/write speeds during the array build were 1.3GB/s so each drive was yielding about 250MB/s.

I did have one arrive DOA. B&H exchange for a replacement was painless. Once the replacement arrived, no issues.

Other reviews have commented on noise. These are quiet as compared to the 6 - 16TB Exos drives in my 1621. I’m sure in a dead silent room these have mechanical noise but this shouldn’t be noticeable if placed in a closet or out of the way.

Overall, I’m very happy with the 24TB Ironwolf’s and would purchase again.

[9.2 x 6.1 x 3"] I have been using IronWolf Pro drives in a couple NAS devices for over 5 years and they've been very reliable. These are new, but two sets of smaller capacity drives were rock solid.

[9.2 x 6.1 x 3"] This just plugs straight into a Synology NAS. It gives a warning about it not being on the approved compatibility list, but works just fine.
If you're ADDING this to a NAS which already has drives in it, remember that it can only add as much storage as the next-largest disk in the array. If you add one of these to an array containing 18TB disks, it can only add 18TB to total storage. If you add two, then they become backups for each other and you can use the full amount of space. This is also dependent on which RAID scheme you are using, but everyone with a Synology is probably using SHR mode.
