Add a matte box to your rig with this Bright Tangerine Misfit Kick Mk II Matte Box Kitfrom Bright Tangerine. It features the core frame, carbon fiber shade, and a two-stage adjustable filter stage assembly, expandable to three-stage by adding a third tray. Ultra-compact and lightweight, this matte box can go from accepting one, two, or three separately available 4 x 4 or 4 x 5.65" filter trays or the ONE Tray.

The matte box core is compatible with Bright Tangerine frame-safe clamp adapters, allowing you to attach the matte box to a wide range of lens sizes from 80 to 143mm. You can also add optional top and bottom flags, available separately. The Misfit Kick Mk II also supports optional rod-mount, clip-on, or swing-away bracket assemblies for more efficient lens swaps.

The Misfit Kick Mk II can adapt to any lens using a range of optional Frame Safe clamp adapters, offering an extra wide field of view for large format sensors and wide lenses.

The Misfit Kick Mk II features an all-new patented reveal stage design, making it more robust and easier to operate in the field, converting from a 2-stage to a 3-stage matte box without any extra hardware or tools, just a third filter tray.

Rather than use ball bearings like traditional matte boxes, the Misfit Kick Mk II uses a new spring system in combination with a protruding ridge to secure the filter trays, creating a positive locking position with tactile feedback for increased confidence when loading filters.

For even more security, a filter guard can be mounted onto the bottom of the sunshade. When working in fast-paced environments like on a tracking vehicle, drone, or jib, a safety loop provides a secure tethering point for a safety wire or lanyard.

For additional light protection, add the optional quick release top flag, side flags, or hard mattes for precise control over flares and image contrast. Knurled, captive locking screws are used to secure filters in place, preventing screws from going missing while in the field.

The sunshade is built from high-grade carbon fiber and the reveal system from CNC-cut hard anodized aluminum for extra strength while staying lightweight.

[0.79 lb] Surprised by how light weight it is. Really good build quality and clever tray design. The thumb screws to extend the unit for additional filters gets loose sometimes so just have to tighten it every now and then. 5

[0.79 lb] Using this with my ARRI LMB 4x5. This is a must have tray if you're using diopters and 4x5.65 filters. One recent project was shot on 2x anamorphic lenses and we needed diopters for the closeup shots the director wanted. This worked like a charm as I was using 3 stages of the matte box for ND, diffusion, and diopter when necessary. Worked great for what we needed it for. 5

[0.79 lb] I have an ARRI LMB 4x5 and have been using the rubber black hole vs clamp on adapters. ACs have hated it so I bought this for a recent shoot. Performed very well, clamped on tight to the lenses for handheld/easy rig use. I was slightly concerned after reading other reviews that the ARRI clamp adapters were the only ones to buy, but this seemed like a quality unit and held onto the lenses as expected during a 2 day branded commercial shoot. 5

[0.79 lb] Hands down the Misfit Kick is the only matte box you will probably ever need. It is super versatile and extremely light in the clamp on version. BT has really nailed it with the One Tray options and the unique reveal feature to turn a 2 stage MB into a 3 stage without any tools and additional items. Well except for the third filter tray. I love this thing. I got it a couple weeks ago and can't wait to take it wherever needed. It's built like a tank. I expect it to last lifetime. Highly recommended. Frame safe adapters, add a swing away arm later on if needed, the flexibility of this system. Highly recommended. Well done BT!! 5

[0.79 lb] Bought this to compliment my Leica R 35mm summicron in my Red Scarlet-W. This thing couldn’t be built or designed any better. The rubber “black hole” is a perfect choice if you’re going to be using vintage lenses. Make sure you have some sort of step up ring if your lens has a diameter smaller than 60mm or light will leak. I probably wouldn’t use it with lenses with a diameter larger than 82mm since it’s made of a thin rubber material and it might rip or stretch out too much. Looks miles better than baggy cloth though... The reason I went with the misfit is because I know that if I change lenses or if a client wants to work with other lenses, I can easily buy the other configurations to accommodate whatever I end up using. I know this is more expensive than most matte boxes but it’s worth it since this is the only matte box you will ever need. 5
