Offering both strength and speed, the Sony 1920GB CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Cardfrom Sony 1920GB CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Cardprovides fast read speeds up to 800 MB/s, write speeds up to 700 MB/s and, thanks to the VPG 200 spec, write speeds are guaranteed to not drop below 200 MB/s. This quick performance benefits recording a variety of video resolutions, bit rates, and compressions, as well as high-resolution continuous raw photo shooting. Beyond its speed, this TOUGH memory card also has a reinforced physical design to withstand drops from up to 24.6' and has been rigidity tested to 150 N of force. It can perform in temperatures ranging from 14 to 158°F and is IP57 rated for dust and water resistance. Offering further protection, File Rescue recovery software can be downloaded for recovering lost or even accidentally deleted files and Media Scan Utility can be used to automatically scan CFexpress cards to inform you of the flash memory condition.

Sony does offer another CFexpress Type A lineup — the CEA-G Series — and, if you're wondering which would be better suited for you, here's some info that will help guide your decision. These new cards — the CEA-M Series — feature minimum sustained write speeds of 200 MB/s, but can withstand drops of up to 24.6' and are rigidity tested up to 150 N. While the CEA-G Series does feature minimum sustained write speeds of 400 MB/s, it can only withstand drops up to 15' and is rigidity tested up to 70 N. So, it comes down to whether you need more speed or more durability.

[0.085 lb] After ordering this card, I had concerns that maybe I should have purchased the G series of CFexpress A cards from Sony.

However, this card exceeded my expectations. The card seems built well just like my G series Sony SD cards. It's also much smaller than I thought they would be.

Using my Sony A7IV, I did a burst of several photos. The time it took to clear the buffer was maybe a second? It's super fast. Even when it's sustained write speed is only guaranteed to 200

However the main purpose for this card is video. I do lots of cinematic portraits with a Sony FX3 requiring lots of slow-motion video. I often use S&Q 120FPS slowed down to 30 or 24. This kind of shooting requires a lot of storage space and my 128GB Song G tough card would often fill up on these shoots. Originally I was going to buy more V90 cards, but the capacities are limited to about 256GB.

Also just few months ago the only option for CFexpress A was 160GB total. Now that I can buy a card with 960Gb or even close to 2TBs, I know I'll have plenty of storage for these films.

Only gripe I have is how expensive something so tiny is. It's newer technology and in time I know these cards will get cheaper. However, I couldn't hold out much longer so I purchased this and haven't looked back.

One last thing is I try to always by Sony stuff. Yes there may be cheaper options, but they always just work with my gear well.

[1] Well, a lower price would be nice. But for now it's the biggest CFe Type A card out there, and like all of the Sony Tough cards it's built like a tank.

[1] I’ve never once had a card failure with a Sony Tough Card. I recently had to bring my Canon R5 Mk 1in to have service on the hot shoe and when the tech saw what cards I pulled out of the camera he commented that ‘you’ll never have a card failure with those’ which only further validated my choice, so I decided to add another set to my kit. That’s one less thing to worry about.
