Featuring an ultrawide design prized for architectural and interior subjects, the PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED from Nikon allows you to impart both tilt and shift movements to control focus and perspective, as well as apply the movements independently for more creative flexibility. Up to +/- 7.5° of tilt is possible, for focus control, and +/- 12mm of shift, to adjust perspective and composition, and tilt can be applied parallel or perpendicular to shift. Up to 90° of rotation is also possible using the PC Rotation capability, and shift movements do not require locking or unlocking for use. Characterized by an expansive field of view that is ideal for photographing tight indoor spaces and complex architectural subjects, this lens also offers flexible perspective and focus control to adjust distortion and depth of field.

Complementing the mechanical layout of the lens is an apt optical design, which includes three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. Both Nanocrystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to individual elements to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast in strong lighting conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been added to the front and rear elements to guard against dust, moisture, and smudging.

  • Shift movement does not require locking or unlocking during use.
  • Three extra-low dispersion elements help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
  • A pair of aspherical elements control spherical aberrations in order to lessen distortion and increase sharpness from edge to edge.
  • Nanocrystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.
  • Fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements afford protection to the optical system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the limitations of the lens using the D750?

A: The limitations with the D750 would be that some combinations of shift and rotation may not be available due to the lens contacting the camera body.

Q: 2. Mounted on the d850, can you use the focusing zebra stripes in live view mode with this lens and if so is it accurate?

A: When in Movie mode on the Nikon D850, one can enable zebra stripes while this lens is in use. The accuracy will not differ as compared to the accuracy when using other lenses.

Q: 3. What filter holder kit can be used with this lens?

A: Unfortunately, at this time, we have no filters or filter holders that are compatible for use with the Nikon PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED lens.

Q: 4. Are there any limitations in using the lens on the Nikon d850?

A: I asked Nikon technical support the same question. Their reply: there are no horizontal or vertical shift limitations when using the Nikkor 19mm PCE lens on a D850.

Q: 5. No hood available from Nikon, is one not needed? How bad is glare and reduced contrast when key light is in front/side of camera? Note front glass bulbs out. Nano coating can only do so much, no? Any success in using flags in lieu of a hood? Or is lack of a hood not a concern with this lens?

A: There is a good reason why there are no hoods for very wide lenses; to wit, a hood that actually protects the lens from flare is also visible in the frame. My rule of thumb to make sure no light is flaring or causing ghosts on my lens is this: From moderately wide to tele lens length, I use lens hoods, or matte boxes or adjustable sunshades on the camera to block the spurious light. However, on very wide lenses, the flare has to be flagged at the light source that is causing the problem. Even outside and it is the sun hitting the lens, use a grip flag on a stand to stop the direct light of the sun. Do not have such equipment? Then have a friend hold any rectangular object so the the flare from the sun is blocked. How to know it is working? Make sure the shadow of the flag covers the front element of the lens. Nikkor lenses are among the finest in the world. The lens coatings on this lens are no less than that. You can be sure that for all but the most direct specular light rays, light hitting this lens will be flare and ghost free.

Q: 6. Will this work with the new D500 that's coming?

A: I was able to use it on D300. It should also work on D500.

Q: 7. For architectural work do you think this 19mm or the 24mm tilt/shift is the better overall option to have on a job?

A: The 19mm is the first NIKKOR tilt-shift that allows you to rotate the angle of tilt. There are times when this can be a great advantage. I've never used the 24mm; but the 19mm can get closer and is so sharp on a 36 M-pixel body that if I must shoot from further away, I can crop the smaller image and blow it up to the desired size.

Q: 8. can this lens be used with an FTZ adapter on a Z7II?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens can be used with the Nikon FTZ adapter to mount with the Nikon Z7 II.

Q: 9. Has Anyone who owns this lens found a good quality plate that fits well?

A: I recommend that you replace the factory foot with a Kirk LP-47, which has an Arca-Swiss base. You'll save weight and have a more stable base compared with adding a plate to the factory foot. In addition, the Kirk foot is designed perfectly to accept a BlackRapid shoulder strap connector.

Q: 10. What is the Nikon Warranty on a New lens? One year, two, or 5?

A: Included with the lens:Limited 1-Year WarrantyLimited 4-Year USA Extension upon Registration

[71mm at f/8] Tired of your trees and buildings falling back? Do you fix the leaning buildings in post only to loose a lot of the frame correcting the image? Everything look not quite so right? This is the lens! This is my first tilt-shift lens and this lens is magical. Tilt and shift can be used independently or in conjunction with each other to create beautiful sharp images like you never had before. The movement and precision of the lens when mounted on a Nikon D810 is fantastic. No lens creeping everything stays in place while you shoot. Looking forward to shooting stock photos of an entire city for a client with this lens. It will pay for itself on the first job and is worth every penny. I purchased a ThinkTank Lens Changer 35 V2 to store and transportthe lens in. The included case is ok, but does not protect the lens as well as the ThinkTank. The front lens cap comes on and off very easily and secures tightly. As with the Nikkor 14-24mm 2.8 lens you have to be careful with the front element of the lens. This lens is the perfect addition to my Nikkor lenses.

[f/32] First of all, my apologize to B&H. I made a huge mistake.
I did not order my new lens from B&H.
Not ordering this lens from B&H was a total nightmare.(Lesson well learned).
The lens itself is behind excellent. We have all of the NIKOR PCE lenses, and this 19mm is just off the wall perfect.
I’m utilizing the NiSi S-5 filter system with this baby, and I’m in love with photography all over again. Holly smokes, get ready for some amazing images.
And again B&H, I learned my lesson well. Thanks for years of excellent service..

[71mm at f/8] I was a little disappointed when it was just announced. I wished it should be at least as wide as what cannon has. But after I bought it, I totally love it! I think 17mm is a little too wide, and you always get too much distortion at the side. 19mm looks much nature! Plus, if you really want wide image, you can always shift the lens and stitch images together! Love, love, love! Highly recommend!

[19mm] This is my go-to lens for large industrial and environmental projects. (I did not purchase it from B&H but from a local dealer) I own the 28 Schneider Pc and 45mm PC-E. Owned the 24 for years and sold it when the 19mm lens came out. The 19mm is spectacular. Incredibly sharp with incredible micro-contrast, color and flare control. You can shift a great deal without fall-off. A perfect lens with the D810. When the D850 is delivered, I believe this lens and camera combo will give medium-format level control and quality. (especially if you use Capture One to process your D850 files.) In short, the lens is perfect.

[19mm] I also own the Nikkor 24mm f/3.5 tilt-shift lens. This 19mm tilt-shift lens is much more versatile with its independent tilt and shift capabilities. I will continue using the 24mm lens in dusty conditions or when I need filters.

[f/4] Although I have not used it yet, having just received it, I have ogled its enormous lens, However, I have used the Nikkor 24mm PC lens for years, and it is absolutely wonderful. I expect that and more from the 19mm PC lens. I also have and still use the older Nikkor 28mm and 35mm manual PC lenses which, although not the equal of the 24mm and 19mm PC lenses, have been my loyal standbys for 40 years.

[71mm at f/8] Certainly expensive but outstanding. I use this with the Z7 .... wonderful image files. Obviously a specialized lens that takes practice to use well, but the results are worth the time and effort. Work slowly / deliberately / thoughtfully and ..... protect that front element!
