The B+W 46mm Close-Up +2 Lens Filteroffers the ability to achieve macro-like results with camera lenses that have 46mm front filter threads. A close-up lens is a magnifier that optically decreases the focal length of a camera lens placed behind it. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between the camera lens and a subject. Magnification can then be obtained by decreasing the distance between the subject and the combined camera lens and close-up lens.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification and can be combined with other close-up lenses to increase, or fine-tune the macro effect. This close-up lens has a diopter strength of +2. Diopter strengths of +1, +3, +4, or +5 are also available where this close-up lens type's effect becomes progressively stronger with each diopter strength number increase.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of this lens includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W close-up lenses are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This close-up lens features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How better is it to compare to Vivitar Close Up filters? What minimum focus distance would be for Nikon 40mm (if it has 0.29mm without any filter) Thank you!

A: It is a matter of optics. Nikon is noted for optics. And it will be better than other brands. These are also other good models, https://bhpho.to/3CkkJES

Q: 2. ARRI Diopter Frame 138mm for Matte Box BH # ARK2.0013740 • MFR # K2.0013740 Can it be used with this product?

A: 138mm filters and 138mm filter holders all confirm to industry standards and thus are all compatible. To answer your question, yes, this filter will work in that frame.

Q: 3. Will this fit a nikon 18-55 mm kit lens for the d3200?

A: Yes it will. To ensure if a filter will fit your lens look for the lens diameter written on the outside ring of the lens. The Nikon 18-55 mm has a diameter of 52 mm that matches this filter. Works very well. Enjoy!

Q: 4. Can this be used on the Leica Q to shorten the focus distance beyond 17cm?

A: The Leica Elpro 52mm Close-Up Lens will fit the Leica Q using the included step up ring. It will allow you to focus closer but since it has not been tested on the Leica Q, the exact focus distance cannot be determined.

Q: 5. Has anyone compared these with the Lensbaby 46mm Macro Filter Kit?

A: While the Lensbaby 46mm Macro Filter Kit would yield similar results to this Hoya kit, it would lack the multi-coating that the Hoya kit offers.

Q: 6. What is ES 77 No.3?

A: This is the strongest option for close-up shooting. This filter is essentially a very high quality diopter that allows a lens to focus closer then it would normally focus. A close-up filter is an alternative to using a focus tube which would also accomplish the same goal but with a bit more light loss.

Q: 7. What is magnification for this lens? I'm looking for x1.5 up to x3 (similar to Nikon 5T and 6T). Thank you

A: According to the forum for this product on the Nikon USA website, The magnification factor of the D-SLR Close Up Lens (52mm) is 0.44x. (Answered by a Nikon USA representative.)

Q: 8. Does a third-party manufacturer make a lens hood that is compatible with the Elpro 52? Leica does not.

A: Leica Elpro 52mm Close-Up Lens with 49 and 46mm Step-Up Rings has a front thread of 52mm. You can attach a 52mm clip-on or screw-on lens hood. If you are attaching this add-on to the lens on a 35mm or wider lens please select a tulip shape lens hood to avoid vignetting.

Q: 9. Can this item be used with a M9 that does not have a live view electronic view finder

A: You wont be able to see what you are focusing or if you focused on the subject , would not recommend it

Q: 10. can i use this with my m6?

A: Leica Elpro 52mm Close-Up Lens with 49 and 46mm Step-Up Rings are macro filters you can attached on your Leica M-lens front threads. You can connect the closed up filter to 46, 49, and 52mm front threads.

[Close-Up] There are several other aftermarket close-up lenses available, but this lens is of a superior quality. No aberrations, no distortions. Worth the money. Looking for a 58mm from Nikon, too.

[0.1 lb] Ordered this filter set to use with my Mamiya cC33. So I could focus closer to my subject-flowers. I chose Hoya because they are multicoated, reducing the possibility of flare, and transmitting more light. I have used Hoya filters for most of my photographic life, and was confident from my experience that this set would be most beneficial.

[0.1 lb] Most Leica people don't even know this product exists. It's so much fun. I use it with various Leica lenses (35mm and 50mm). It works great and it's very easy to focus using live view.

[+2] Previously I used macro extension tubes, but I didn't like how I had to take off the lens when shooting outdoors. This close up lens solves this problem perfectly. Think of it as a magnifying glass that just works. I even use it without taking off my B&W clear filters. Tested with multiple Leica lenses and so far I've found zero problems. You absolutely need to use live view or the EVF if using it with the M10. I found it surprisingly easy to get really sharp photos outdoors and hand holding the camera.

[46 mm] I use this on Nikon's f 2 135mm lens for close up food photography. It maintains edge to edge sharpenss and since is is completely coated color is good too. The treads were a bit tight the first few times I used it.

[Glass] I use this with my Polaroid 180, using a finder from the close up set made for the Polaroid 250 (much cheaper than the set made for the 180). I use a 45-46mm filter adapter in order to mount this to the lens. This should also work for the Polaroid 190, 195. In the case of my 180, the the addition of the adapter ring means that this lens is not at the same distance as what the RF finder was calibrated for. I found that with the camera RF set at the 8 feet mark, the focus in the RF is correct with the image focus. That makes it very simple to make closeups. It has the usual high quality of construction from Heliopan. The brass ring means that it can be removed easily from my aluminum filter ring adapter without binding. It's a great item for taking pictures of flowers in the garden.
