Aptly named, the silver Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95, from Mitakon Zhongyi, is an extra fast normal-length prime lens for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras. The bright f/0.95 design greatly benefits working in low-light conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for producing characteristic selective focusing imagery. The optical design includes one extra-low dispersion element, which suppresses color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color accuracy. The lens supports rangefinder coupling and its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 3.3' away. Also, a nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality.

Normal-length prime is well-suited to everyday shooting with subjects including portraiture, street, landscape, and reportage.

Impressively bright f/0.95 maximum aperture offers great control over depth of field, for isolating subject matter using selective focus, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.

One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to realize high clarity and accurate color rendering.

Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 3.3'. This lens also supports rangefinder-coupled focusing for greater accuracy and focus confirmation using the camera's viewfinder.

A nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens transmit EXIF data to the camera?

A: Yes, this lens transfers EXIF data to the camera.

Q: 2. does this work with canon 90 d?

A: Yes this lens is compatible with your 90D.

Q: 3. Does this lens work with focus peaking on the Nikon Z camera bodies?

A: Focusing peaking is a camera feature so any lens can use the focus peaking.

Q: 4. Does the lens work with a blackmagic cinema pocket 6K, is it any crop factor? I’m not sure about that mount from canon I usually get EF and those work great ..

A: The Blackmagic 6K uses the EF mount. The RF mount is canons new mount for mirrorless camera and can not be be adapted onto an EF mount because of the flange distances.

Q: 5. Is there a way to calibrate the focusing for my Leica rangefinder if the focus is not accurate?

A: Being that the lens is manual focus, any calibration would be done through the manufacturer.

Q: 6. Does this work with canon 6D Mark II?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon 6D Mark II.

Q: 7. Does this lens provide focal plane illumination that is sufficiently near telecentric to allow the f/2.8 pixel condensers in the Canon focal plane to work, out to the corners of the image?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF (B&H# MI50095CEF), while non tele-centric, will allow for cameras possessing a Canon EF mount to attain critical focus throughout the focal plane. Naturally, there is some curvature to that. As is always the case with fast prime lenses, the center is sharpest, but by about f/2 the image circle in general is sharp enough for typical photographic portraiture usage in even the non central region of the frame. Of course, whether or not that is enough for your usage will depend on your needs and preferences. Stop down to f/8 to achieve the wider depth of field that you need if you want the corners to be their sharpest despite natural field curvature.

Q: 8. which version is this?

A: Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF is the version III.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with megadap autofocus adapter ?

A: Yes this would be compatible and work with a Megadap adapter such as this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1604791-REG/venus_optics_mtz11_megadap_leica_m_lens.html

Q: 10. Does this lens trigger the focus point manual focus aid? To be clear, not talking about focus peaking, talking about the index point/matching arrows feature unique to the R series Canon cameras.

A: The index point/matching arrows feature unique to the R series Canon cameras. You can also go into live view and magnify the image for accurate focus.

[Leica M] It is a very rare instance where I feel I got a better bargain photographically or otherwise. This lens is MUCH better than I
anticipated it would be.

[67 mm (Front)] I got a Fuji X-T3 mid 2019, and with it I got this lens. Got a few other lenses as well but this is the only one that’s stayed around the entire time with the camera. It’s what’s on my camera 95% of the time. Yeah it’s shallow depth of field and manual focus but give it a week or two and it becomes really easy since Fuji’s focus peaking is really great. Center resolves good sharpness actually but the corners are a mess unless you stop down and even then they’re never fantastic. But for candid photos or even in the studio there’s something about this lens that’s just special. Friends are always harping about the photos I take using it. For once people actually say “he has a nice lens” instead of the classic “he has a nice camera”. It flares when the sun is directly in frame but I’ve always found a way to make it really work in the photo, it’s not weird/annoying flaring. It’s really not that big considering how much light it gets. Also the focus ring is the most perfectly smooth/dampened of any lens I’ve ever used, even compared to old film lenses. Yeah autofocus is easy but honestly for the price of this lens and the results it can give it’s just so worth giving it a shot. I’ve been spoiled with low ISO’s even when indoors in the evening. This lens paired with my X-T3 is what got me back into photography (and got me into videography as well)! I’ve never been so uninterested in shopping around for other lenses. It’s a shame Mitakon doesn’t make any other APSC lenses like a 70mm prime (105mm equiv.) cos I’d buy it immediately.

[3.3' / 1 m] I bought this lens without having a solid review upon which to base my decision. That made me a little nervous, but the prospect of having a lens capable of great bokeh without the need for an adapter prompted me to take the chance. I love the 58mm f/1.2 and the 90mm f/2, but a 50mm full frame equivalent focal length is extremely versatile, and still my favorite. I have had the opportunity to shoot many test shots with the lens mounted on an X-Pro2 over the last few weeks. I can say I am very pleasantly surprised and will definitely be keeping the lens. This lens should appeal to video shooters (clickless f/stops) or portrait photographers (for the bokeh). If sharp, had the potential to be a great value for the money. So far, I have found the lens is very sharp, with slight falloff at the edges wide open just as one would expect. The focus barrel is very smooth with moderately long throw. The focus ring is slightly more narrow than I am used to, and it's to the rear of the f/stop ring, which initially resulted in me usually changing the f/stop and wondering why the focus wasn't moving. That just requires a little adjustment to the controls. For kicks, I shot a set of comparison photos using a Zeiss 32mm f/1.8 Touit and this lens, both at f/8 and compared them. Obviously, I manually focused this lens, but autofocused the Zeiss 32mm. At f/8, the Mitakon Zhongyi was usually sharper. This really surprised me, but indicated this would make a very versatile walk around lens if one did not need autofocus. The vignetting is characteristic of these fast lenses, certainly not more than you would expect from a high quality lens. I like that in portrait photography, and if you don't, it's easily corrected in post. The Chromatic aberration is very well controlled, and I never felt compelled to correct it. The contrast is excellent and color rendering superb. The bokeh is really pleasing and exactly what I was looking for in a lens like this. All that said,

[0.05x] You like heavy metal... then get ready to rock this glass on your next shoot! It is a fun fast/fast lens. Manual wide open is a style which changes how you approach and move (flow) for your shot. I would call it a budget lens with big result. Like any budget lens, the extremes are where they can fall short.... but using it for cinema with the 'results may vary' mindset, it is fun and unlocks all sorts of creative vision.

The performance to price is a 10/10... and if your using it for cinema... a 12/10! It is an instant studio fav,

[Manual Focus] Great quality lens. Very sharp when you nail the focus. A great lens to learn everything manually.

[50mm] I was skeptical at first glance that a lens this fast could be this affordable and good. Pretty blown away so far. The lens is all metal and glass. So it’s nice and heavy and robust. Manually focusing on the EOS R is great and the images are very 3D. Excellent sharpness stopped down to f2. For a portrait photographer, this should be in everyone’s kit.

[46.7°] Pros:
Phenomenally capable
Solid build
Center sharpness is top-tier stopped down to 1.6
Quite compact for it's capability
Dirt cheap compared to other f/1's

Cons:
No autofocus
No exif data
Soft wide open but could be a pro due to dreamy effect- a matter of preference

[Leica M] All in all a great lens, great all metal build extremely smooth and buttery aperture and focus ring great for video shooting. Much less chromatic abrasion and vignetting compared to the mitakon 50mm F0.95 (35mm sensor) and the MKI. Also much smaller and lighter. It's not a easy lens to use but with it you can get some really beautiful shots with. It also allows you to use very low powered lighting which is great for low budget shoots and kits. It also processes colors very nicely. Keep in mind: completely manual lens very shallow depth of field (hard to use for live events) with crop factor its more like a F1.4 Not as much of a wow factor as the 50mm F0.95

[f/0.95] This lens could cost twice as much and still be a good deal. Love the heft and feel of it mounted to my EOS R. Focus ring is butter, sharpness at f2 and above is stunning!
