The optical design incorporates two extra-low dispersion elements with four high refractive index elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions in order to achieve notable sharpness, even at wide apertures. Portrait-length 85mm prime is compatible with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras, and can also be used with APS-C-sized sensors where it will provide a 136mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over your focus position to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Two extra-low dispersion elements and four high refractive index elements help to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range for greater sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.

Manual focus design utilizes a floating elements system to permit focusing on subjects as close as 3.3' away.

De-clicked, stepless aperture ring permits smooth, silent aperture adjustment to benefit video applications.

An 11-blade rounded diaphragm contributes a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques.

All-metal lens barrel features printed depth of field and focus scales. Additionally, a metal lens mount also offers increased durability between the lens and camera.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this lens perform on a Nikon FM3A or F3? Compatible? Will the declicked aperture affect it?

A: It is our understanding that the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Nikon F has not been tested specifically with the Nikon F3 or FM3A. The results may vary when using those bodies with this lens.

Q: 2. I see the lens has electrical contacts on the mount. Can I assume focal length and aperture data are communicated to the camera body?

A: Unfortunately Mitakon lenses do not support EXIF data.

Q: 3. What is a recommended lens hood for this lens on GFX?

A: There are many complaints that the original hood does not fit well. I would recommend a screw in hood like this Heliopan. It has front 77mm threads so you can add the lens cap to it. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/21880-REG/Heliopan_701077_77mm_Screw_In_Rubber_Lens.html

Q: 4. Is this a lens that would work on Nikon D3400?

A: Yes, this will mount onto your camera.

Q: 5. So, after reviewing the MTF data, looks incredibly sharp, but how is the bokeh? MTF suggests it might be a bit soft, I presume that is why they are releasing the DS version later this summer?

A: This lens has a very good bokeh and it is a very sharp lens

Q: 6. What is the difference between canon RF 85f1.2 DS and RF85f1.2

A: The DS model would offer de-focus smoothing for soft bokeh.

Q: 7. Is the minimum focus 80cm as stated? Every Nikon mount version Ive seen has been 1m.

A: According to the manufacturers website, Mitakon Zhongyi lists the minimum focus distance of the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Nikon F as 1 meter (3 feet). Our website lists it as 2.62' (80 cm). This appears to be an error on our website and should be corrected shortly.

Q: 8. Does it have focus confirmation? It seems that it does but nothing is mentioned on camera specs .

A: Focus peaking would be determined by the camera. If the camera does support that feature, you will be able to use it with the lens.

Q: 9. The top caption says 85mm, the features says 67mm, is it both or neither? And what would be the correct 35mm equivalent?

A: Hi, this 85mm lens will provide the same angle of view for the medium-format camera it's designed for as 67mm lens on a full-frame or 35mm camera. The actual focal length of the lens never changes--it's always 85mm.

Q: 10. Does this Mitakon 85/1.2 fully cover the Frame of medium format? It isn’t shown that in the website

A: It cover approximately 95% of the sensor

[6.8 x 5 x 3.9"] I expected the best of the best and was not disappointed. This lens will stay on my camera most of the time.

[Manual Focus] this is a great lens. Build is very solid. The lens is heavy only in comparison to the native FE lenses (it's equal to the Nikon 85.) I personally like it more than he Canon 85mm 1.2. The only downside is that on the lower apertures the bokeh looks more ghosted than the Canon and Nikon up till F2. As someone else noted the Mitakon lens hoods are terrible and cheap. But the lens itself is the opposite.

[29°] Exactly what I was hoping for. Nice solid metal build. Great bokeh. The f stop ring is quiet too so would be good for youtubing. It is my new favorite toy.

[77 mm (Front)] This lens is the best prime I've owned. The lens is solid metal and glass. The lens is exceptionally sharp, and colors are reproduced perfectly. if you like Zeiss lenses, you'll like this one because this is better in my opinion. It is a declicked aperture that turns very smoothly. I use this lens with my Nikon F6 on aperture priority mode.

[Canon RF] This lens build like a tank and is quite heavy. That might be appealing to certain videographer. The focus ring is so smooth. It has too much resistance to turn when I first use it. After time it get loose and become perfect to turn by hand. The image at f1.2 is quite good. It does has low contrast and prone to flare at f1.2 but the center resolution is very good. Stop a bit to f1.4-1.6 increase contrast and reduce flare. I do not see other options for ef mount that has manual aperture ring and has great image quality even at f1.2. Do not overlook this lens if you are looking for a fast 85mm full frame lens that can be adapt to any system.

[Canon RF] I purchased this lens, then I sent it back waiting for the Fuji 80 millimeter 1.7.
But then I reviewed the images I took when I owned this lens from Mitakon Zhongyi and they were incredible.
F1.2...unbeatable light.
I’m going to be honest, I re-bought the lens and I have not taken it off the camera since… That’s not a lie.

[Manual Focus] I wanted to try a 85 mm prime lens for portraiture and I tried this one. I get good image from it and love it on my 1.6x 7DMKII (136mm 35mm equiv. which I love) The construction is good, all metal, and image that come out are good. I'd recommend it; good price, good quality, easy enough to use it.

[2.63 lb] I was so excited about getting this lens after owning a previously much slower focusing EF 85mm f/1.2. This lens is one the sharpest and fastest focusing lenses in my bag and just as good as the RF 135 f/1.8. I almost always shoot wide open at f/1.2 and the focus never fails. It results in such beautiful background separation and is rivaled only by EF 200 f/2.0 lens. This is a must have lens for a wedding and portrait photographers.
