Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a RRS BH55 head?

A: Yes. The following will adapt to any ballhead that offers a 3/8 female opening.

Q: 2. What bag would you recommend storing this base in? Thanks

A: A Zing Designs SPB1 Small Drawstring Pouch (Black/Blue), BH # ZIPSBL would be suitable to store the Acratech Leveling Base.

Q: 3. what is the small knob on the acratech leveling base for?

A: According to Acratech, the smaller knob on the Leveling Base is preset and offers no adjustment.

Q: 4. Has anybody bought this to use with the GP ballheads (which already have a levelling feature)? My GP-SS when inverted should be able to do level panoramas but if I need to tilt the ballhead up or down (while maintaining a level pan) I believe this levelling base is required as the ballhead base would need to be levelled first in order to rotate on a level horizon.

A: The GP-SS is unique in that you can invert it and mount the camera on what is normally the bottom of the head. The advantage is the now-top of the head, because it is now sitting on a ball, is easily leveled for any purpose including panoramas.

Q: 5. Has anyone tried this on the Sirui T-2205X tripod?

A: I use it on a Sirui N-2204X, happy with it.

Q: 6. Will this work with an iOptron Cube Pro 2

A: The iOptron 8" MiniPier for GoTo Mounts BH #IO8032 • MFR #8032 will work with the iOptron SkyTracker Pro Camera Mount with Polar Scope (Mount Only) BH #IO3322 • MFR #3322

Q: 7. Is the top stud on the Acratech #1117 3/8"-16 or 1/4-20 ?

A: The Acratech Leveling Base, with 3/8" Tripod Thread - Supports 25 lb (11.4 kg), B&H #ACLB, listed above has a 3/8"-16 male thread on the top of the leveling base. If you need the option that uses the 1/4"-20 male thread, you may instead purchase the Acratech Leveling Base for Tripods with 1/4"-20 Thread Head Mount, B&H # ACLBS, for your usage needs.

Q: 8. Will this pier work with the 1.75" tripod that came with my GEM45?

A: No, the iOptron 8" MiniPier for GoTo Mounts will not work with the iOptron GEM45 Equatorial GoTo Mount with 1.75" LiteRoc Tripod. Alternatively one can use the iOptron 6" MiniPier for CEM40/GEM45 Mounts, BH #IO8031 (https://bhpho.to/3pFRBXX).

Q: 9. What is the practical difference for landscape photography in a leveler such as this one that allows 10 degrees adjustment vs. others that allow 15 degrees adjustment--besides the extent of the allowed adjustment?

A: Possibly to provide a wider range of adjustment when setting up a tripod on sloped terrain. However, I shoot landscapes in steep terrain often and have not found a need for more adjustment. I have other leveling bases and this is my favorite.

Q: 10. Will this fit the 1.5" Literoc tripod which came with my CEM40 mount?

A: Unfortunately no. The 1.5 inch tripod needed the 8035-8 pier which is not made anymore.

[2.13 lb] I got this mini pier to use with my AZ mount pro tripod since I got CEM40 mount. and it work really well. Also this mini pier provides an nice 8" extension that helps wmy larger refractor to clear tripod legs.

[2.13 lb] With the mini pier, I keep the LiteRoc legs fully retracted and the height of my 100mm refractor ends up about perfect. Very happy with the stability.

[2.13 lb] After my purchase of a new and longer telescope found a greater risk for mount stalls occurring if the scope was ever oriented more vertically during an imaging session, I decided that even though this pier was a bit short to provide complete clearance for the scope to avoid hitting a tripod leg, it would at least reduce the risk. However, it had a secondary benefit I'd not given thought to....those 3 ribs make great mount points for accessories I'd been using magic arms and clamps with to attach to the legs of my tripod. Now, I can more them higher to those ribs which are thinner and easier to attach a clamp to, while freeing up the legs to be more easily collapsed without removing anything. Convenient!

[Black] Using it between my Colorado tripod and Aspen ballhead. Makes it easy for panoramic shooting. Quality build and design.

[Black] PERFECT ! It fits my iOptron 2 tripod perfectly. The iOptron AZ Pro rides well on this pier. Thought I was going to just use the top and bottom plate and find a longer pipe section to get it a little higher, but didn't need it for my Takahashi TSA-102. Here is a pic of the first test run.

[Black] Well made and stiff. Really helps keep longer scopes away from hitting the tripod legs.

[Black] This is a cheap way to keep out of the cardiac ward. My old mount, the CEM25-EC, had a nasty habit of going full-tilt on the RA axis before beginning to move the Azimuth, and that resulted in a couple of collisions of my ASI294 and the tripod leg. So buying this was not an option. It mounts securely and easily (no directions, but you'll puzzle it out). With my longer telescope, a TeleVue 4-inch refractor, the camera still comes pretty close to a tripod leg so I'm not sure I can trust it completely during a meridian flip, but this makes it a lot safer.

[Black] The Six-Inch Pier fit perfectly on my GEM45G mount. All necessary hardware is supplied, including a stainless-steel pin that threads into a hole on the outer circumference of the Pier. The pin is necessary for the opposing push-pull bolts of the mount to fine-adjust azimuth.

[Black] Almost a must have, with the extra height makes looking through scope at the median much easier, don't have to almost lay on the ground. Makes polar alignment easier. Just a win win. Easy to install, lightweight, helps keep your equipment from hitting the tripod legs during a median flip p
