Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the female 1/4 ( where the head attaches to the light stand or similar)?

A: The base and the top mount are both 1/4 20 threads. It would have to be attached to a light stand with a 1/4 20 thread.

Q: 2. Will the flex shooter mini or pro fit better with this Apex?

A: Flex shooter mini or pro will both work well on FLM CP30-M5 Hybrid Series II Tripod. If you have a heavy and long lens like the Nikon AF-S 800mm 5.6 lens I would recommend the Pro and if you have a lighter and smaller Sony 200-600 6.3 lens I would recommend the Mini.

Q: 3. Is it waterproof?

A: The FLM CP30-M5 is not fully waterproof, but can be used in shallower depths without issues. Regular maintenance and cleaning/rinsing to remove sediments are recommended if submersed or if used in saltwater.

Q: 4. The FLM CB-18 18mm Ballhead is rated to support 13.2 lbs. Has anyone used it with a full-frame DSLR?

A: Yes, I have used it with Nikon D4 and 24-70mm f2.8 lens, 70-200mm f4 and holds very good.

Q: 5. Is it simple to add a Arca quick release plate to this?

A: The FLM CB-24E Ball Head with Mounting Platform has a 3/8 connection at the base and 1/4-20 connection at the head, so you can attach an Arca plate with a 3/8 thread or 3/8 adapter bushing. An Arca plate/mount can be mounted on the head as well with a 1/4-20 connection.

Q: 6. can I use the RRS BH-55 or Robus RTH-1050 with the FLM CP30-M5 Hybrid tripod?

A: Yes RRS BH-55 or Robus RTH-1050 do fit the FLM CP30-M5 Hybrid tripod.

Q: 7. Would the peak design base plate on my camera fit this clamp?

A: The FLM 55GX Centerball Tripod Head with SRB-60 QR Clamp takes Arca-Type compatible plates. So yes, a Peak Design Quick Release plate such as the Peak Design PL-S-3 Standard Plate will work.

Q: 8. Is it possible to swap the normal pan knob with the 15 degree pan knob? I try to keep on the ball head controls on the left.

A: Unfortunately, the FLM 47GX Centerball Tripod Head knobs cannot be swapped.

Q: 9. I want to attach this unit to a Giotto QU305 mini tripod. Do I need an adapter to attach? It seems both units are 1/4 . Or, am I wrong?. Please advise

A: You can attach the CB-18E Centerball Head to the Giotto QU305 mini tripod: they have the same thread size.

Q: 10. Those of you that have bought this unit, what have been your experiences with it? Would you buy it again?

A: This small head is very good and well made, there are no issues at all when using this head.

[1.025 lb] I wanted a small, light weight tripod to take on walks in order to take close-up photos of flowers and bugs. The FLM CP-10 with a ballhead attached allows me to take these photos and the tripod and ballhead are so light that I don't even notice the weight in my pack.

[Yes] An amazing solution for fixing legs. And although I don't like the heads of the FLM (well ... that’s my opinion)), this tripod is brilliant. It's just nice to use such a cleverly made thing.

[Ball Head] When I started looking for a small ball head for my light stand, like everyone else, I looked at what such a purchase might be and the features and quality of each unit. There are many mini ball heads out there. But the FLM CB 18E stood out of the crowd. What sold me ultimately was the quality of the product itself. Made of machined aluminum, to very exacting standards, it was obvious that this ball head would service me for years to come. So, I bought it. Once I received the head, it was immediately apparent that the head was well machined and most importantly, the head moved flawlessly. So smooth. The head itself is small but strong. I have every confidence that it will hold my point and shoot or lighting apparatus without problems. As for the cost of the unit itself, yes it is a bit more expensive then its competitors. But as the saying goes you get what you pay for. I am happy with the product, and would buy it again.

[1.025 lb] I recently purchased the FLM GX 55 ballhead with a lever release to replace my old RRS BH-40. This FLM head has a large 55mm ball to enable stronger clamping (88 lb. rating) compared to 18lb for my BH-40. My BH-40 (40mm ball) which I've used for many years slightly drops when locking position with heavy lenses (I't's fine for lighter lenses). I decided to go with a larger 55mm ball for increased locking strength. The FLM 55 weighs 440gm and is slightly lighter than my BH-40 which weighs 486gm. I also own a RRS BH-55 ballhead which I use on a larger tripod. The BH-55 weighs 910gm (just over twice as much as the FLM) with a similar 55mm sized ball. The FLM locks very securely with no drop. The knobs work well on the FLM. I like the knobs and the lever release on the RRS better, but the FLM works fine and is secure. The 15 degree stops for pano are nice on the FLM, I wish it had a separate tension adjustment, but adjusting the lever to partial tightening hasn't been hard. You just have to get used to opening the lock partially. The bubble level is off in my unit as others have reported which is don't like, but in my case I use the camera's built in level for final leveling so it's not as important and the ball head gets me close. The FLM is a strong bullhead with relatively light weight. The tightening lever can be pulled out easily to reposition the position of the lever during locking if necessary. This only seems to be a problem if the camera is tilted far up. The BH-40 has the same adjustment.

[Yes] I paired this tripod with a light-weight Joby ball head that I had around and took it backpacking. While light-weight enough to lug over some pretty steep mountain passes, the setup held an EOS 60D body + 70-300 mm f/5.6 lens at full extension with no problem. The individually adjustable legs make it easy to obtain a stable configuration on an uneven surface such as a rock.

[Yes] I was looking for a super compact and light ballhead for mounting the Peak Design Mobile Creator Kit to a heavy-duty GorillaPod for lightweight travel. Since the PD phone mount already incorporates a quick release, I wanted a simple ballhead that didn't have a QR system. This option from FLM has professional-grade build quality, is very light and compact, and supports far more weight than I'll ever ask of it. The fit and finish is as good as you'd expect. It's perfect for my use case or for other compact camera rigs, and only costs a tiny bit more than the bargain-basement options.

[15°] Although expensive, this ball had offers at degree of precision and consistency that lower price ball heads cannot achieve and some of the most famous names are also deficient at. My only an admittedly minor complain is that the controls are a bit close to each other at times. Perhaps this would not be a problem with their larger sized ball head.

[Yes] Have had previous FLM heads which were excellent but bulky. This new GX series is very different compared to the CenterBall series. It is super light given the size of the ball, it is also very small and fairly squat. The ball action is super smooth. The knobs are now all different from each other and easy to sort by feel without looking, a down side on older models with all knobs feeling the same. While it does not have a separate friction control for the main lock, I don't miss it. The main locking lever has an excellent feel and relatively short throw, so it is not an issue. It is very easy to tighten. There is negligible slop with a heavy lens (100-400L mounted on the body (not as rock solid as the CB58 monster) with the camera mounted on the head. When mounted on the lens foot, it is super easy.
The panorama with the option of click-stopped movements is also very nice.

I am using it as the head for my small travel tripod as it is so compact and light and am very happy.

[Yes] It is very well made and feels really solid. All elements are metal. It easily keeps 3kg camera in any position.
Would like to mention that it also supports 360 degree rotation when is not fixed.
I use it with my JOBY GorillaPod 3K and it works pretty good.
