Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the tightening screw just below the 1/4 -20 made of aluminum or plastic?

A: The black plastic knob that is used to screw the 1/4 -20 thread into the camera is plastic.

Q: 2. Can you remove the head?

A: Yes, Neewer TP62 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head comes with a 1/4-20 -3/8-16 short center column That replace the short center column with the build in ball head. Therefore you can connect any other ball heads on the tripod.

Q: 3. So there's no more confusion. See the 5th photo down from the top. See the "working platform". Can it be unscrewed off the the stud, or is it part of the stud? To be clear, the working platform is just below the 1/4" threads where the camera or flash or supported device would be attached.

A: The working platform cannot be unscrewed from this system.

Q: 4. How does the head secure onto the tripod? Does it have a threaded hole? If so, what size?

A: The threaded hole on the bottom of the head is 3/8" and it also comes with a 1/4-20" bushing.

Q: 5. Can this be used, effectively, to mount an AX53 and Rode VideoMic Pro on a Selfie Stick? Can the ball head handle the weight? Can it be tightened properly?

A: The Oben BD-0 Mini Ball Head has a maximum load capacity of 6.6 lbs. The Rode VideoMic Pro Compact Directional On-Camera Microphone only weighs 3 oz (0.19 lbs), so the Oben BD-0 Mini Ball Head would easily handle the weight of the microphone. As the de VideoMic Pro Compact Directional On-Camera Microphone has a 3/8 -16 thread on the bottom for use on boom poles and audio equipment, you would also need to purchase the Oben 3/8 -16 to 1/4 -20 Reducer Bushing, B&H # OB1039, which would allow you to connect the microphone to the ball head.

Q: 6. How is this different than the Oben BD-0 Mini Ball Head?

A: Better built and a wider camera base.

Q: 7. Is the head Ball Head or Pan Head? Some descriptions found refer to Pan Head vs Ball Head

A: The Neewer TP62 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head includes a ball head. A pan head usually has a longer panning bar built into the head.

Q: 8. Is the 3/8 insert removable to adapt to a standard light stand head? Looks like it, just wanna make sure

A: Here's what I see on mine. With the insert in, it takes a 1/4 -20 thread, and with the insert out it takes a 3/8 -16 thread. That's as far as it goes. If standard light stand head is 5/8 then you would need some kind of an adapter down to 3/8 .

Q: 9. This ballhead has the ability to use either 1/4 -20 or 3/8 -16 according to package. But I can't figure out how to change it to fit my Platypod for the correct fitting. The one it comes with is too small. How do I change it?

A: If you google 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor I think you will find an inexpensive fix. They won't let me include a link.

Q: 10. Can an Arca Swiss L-bracket be used on the supplied head?

A: An Arca-type L-bracket is compatible with the Neewer TP62 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head.

[Aluminum] I bought this for a very specific, maybe novel purpose, but its design makes it remarkably versatile for a number of applications. I added a 3/8 screw adapter to the top so that I can screw that into one handle of my compact, 5-surface diffuser/reflector. With the CAMVATE, I can now hang the reflector from my light stand and even tilt the reflector bottom out and up somewhat when needed. It's study but light enough to carry right in the reflector case.

[0.415 lb] I use this for putting a DJI Action 1, 2 or 3 up high on a light stand. I wouldn't recommend using it with anything heavier than a mirrorless camera like a Canon EOS-R
