Avantone Pro Planar Ii Open-back Headphones (creme)

Designed for discerning professionals and audiophiles alike, the Avantone Pro Planar II Open-Back Headphones (Creme)utilize planar magnetic drivers with neodymium magnets to deliver stunningly accurate sound for mix engineers, musicians, and hi-fi enthusiasts. This second-generation edition improves upon the original with an upgraded detachable cable and lighter-weight design. These particular over-ear, open-back headphones are styled in a creme finish.

The planar drivers offer accuracy, clarity, and a fast transient response with a natural-sounding bass and resounding high end. Where moving-coil driver designs use a magnetic field to push and pull a driver around, planar magnetic headphones utilize a precise matrix of miniature magnets to provide an evenly distributed, symmetric force to both sides of the incredibly thin, ultralight diaphragm. This produces a signal with very little harmonic distortion as well as incredibly fast response times for a pure, unadulterated sound.

Yes, the Planar the II headphones are a bit larger than standard headphones, but they are surprisingly light and are outfitted with soft earpads, bolstering long listening sessions. The 6.6' detachable cable can be plugged into either earcup and has been upgraded to ensure noise-free performance. In addition to the 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter, the headphones include a shoulder bag, which has a pouch for the included cable.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's a good soft case or hard case for the new Sony MDR-MV1 headphones?

A: The Sony MDR-MV1 Reference Monitor Headphones can be used with a case like the SLAPPA HardBody Pro Full-Sized Headphone Case (B&H # SLHP99), the Magma Bags MGA41460 Headphone Case (B&H # MAMGA41460), or the Dekoni Audio Headphone Savior V2 Universal Carrying Case (B&H # DEHPSAVCHV2).

Q: 2. Does these headphones need a break in period , if so for how many hours does it need and how loud should you play them for the break in period to finish ?

A: Here is the information that the manufacturer provides in the user manual for the Focal Clear MG headphones regarding an initial break-in period: • These headphones require a running-in period in order to operate at their best. • They will run themselves in naturally after several hours of listening time. • If you want to speed up the process, we recommend playing very bassy music through them for at least 24 hours at a relatively high volume. • This will stabilize the speaker drivers and allow you to get the very best out of your headphones.

Q: 3. What is the serial number?

A: B&H does not provide serial numbers on items before purchase.

Q: 4. It is priced the same as the (black & Red) Clear MG "Professional" but this Chestnut colored one is NOT labelled "Professional". Is it a "Lower Standard Tool" than the professional (or was the person typing in the description negligent to the details)?

A: The product names are listed in the same manner as Focal lists them on their website and in the product manuals. The Focal Clear MG Open-Back Headphones - Chestnut and Mixed Metal Finish (B&H # FOFCLEARMG) does not list "Professional" in the title and it includes two different cables than those that come with the black and red Focal Clear MG Professional Open-Back Headphones (B&H # FOCLEARPROMG). The Clear MG comes with a 9.8' balanced cable with a 4-pin XLR connector and a 3.9' unbalanced cable with a 3.5mm connector, as well as a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter. The Clear MG Professional comes with a 16' unbalanced coiled cable with a 1/4" connector and a 3.9' unbalanced cable with a 3.5mm connector, as well as a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter. The specs for both models are exactly the same, but they seem to be marketing to different users which is why the included cables are different. Focal mentions that the Clear MG is for home use while the Clear MG Professional is for studio use. Here are links to the manufacturer's information pages for both models: Clear MG - http://www.focal.com/en/headphones-0/headphones/for-home/clear-mg Clear MG Professional - http://www.focal.com/en/clear-mg-professional-exceptional-headphones-for-music-creators

Q: 5. Are these meant as the replacement for the 380 Pro model?

A: Sennheiser specs list the 380 Pro at 8 to 27000 Hz and the 280 at 8 to 25000 Hz. The 380 is available for $50 more.

Q: 6. Are these the new version of this model?

A: This model is at least 10 years old nothing has changed

Q: 7. Is this the 2021 version with 6 magnets instead of 8?

A: The Audeze LCD-XC Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Headphones Creator Package that we have in stock is the most recent version available from the manufacturer.

Q: 8. It’s with the travel case ? Thanks!

A: No travel case included

Q: 9. How do I obtain a replacement Cable?

A: The replacement cable for the K182 headphones: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/413231-REG/AKG_6000_H_10080_EK300_Replacement_Headphone_Cable.html

Q: 10. What is the best Shure headphone with microphone for singing and recoding ? Like on Smule.

A: Shure Headset systems are designed for professional use; the cables have either 1/4" or XLR connectors, so not for home entertainment. Home systems usually require a "TRRS" connection for the headphones and microphone to be on the same connector. (just like on a computer of mobile phone) B&H does offer many "gaming type" headsets, which have very high quality sound, singing: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1562224-REG/jbl_jblquantumoneblkam_quantum_one_wired_over_ear.html/specs https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1579739-REG/audeze_penrose_gaming_bluetooth_5_0.html

[30 Hz to 30 kHz] I have owned the HD 58x, HD 560s, and PC 38x from Sennheiser and of those, the only ones that were decently comfortable for my incredibly large head were the PC 38x. I loved the sound of all of them, but they were just not made for people like me. I was hesitant to buy these, but they have a completely different headband design, so I figured it was worth a shot. Plus I could always return them if it didn't work out.

I'm glad I gave it a try. While I do wish the headband had another click or two of adjustment, it seems to just barely get large enough for me. And they are by far the most comfortable Sennheiser headphones I have ever used. I almost forget that I am even wearing them after a while. The only slight complaint with comfort is that the very tips of my ears seem to touch the sides of the earcups even though these are supposedly deeper than others they make.

For the sound, it's really excellent. I prefer the producer pads for the extra bass; this gets me a bit more warmth than the other Sennheisers I mentioned, a more pleasing midrange than the 560s, and a nice, bright top end that is still smooth and not grating. Not much more I could ask for here. They also have excellent sound stage and imaging.

The only other slight complaint is the cable. The cable is fine, but the little coiled bit bounces around a bit and you can hear that in the left ear. It's a little annoying, but it's also a replaceable cable, so you could just get an aftermarket one instead.

While I am very happy with my purchase, I do also think these would be better priced. Still, I highly recommend them.

(I also posted this on Sweetwater, so no, this isn't a bot, I just like them enough to rate them multiple places)

[11 x 10 x 5.4"] Overall it is a fantastic sounding headphone for the price and it is extremely comfortable. The nice thing is that it will sound great on almost anything but if you want to get crazy with the amps and sound cards you can get even better sound.

[Open-Back] I've owned dozens of headphones. My favorite setup prior to these was my Sony MDR-z7 paired with the PHA-3 amp, run with balanced cables. To me, that was the best combination of excellent sound and separation while still being flat out fun to listen to. I was in a bind and had to sell it. I am so stinkin' glad I did.

I was in a position to go back to my audio-crack (headphone addict...you know who you are) and was able to pick these up. I have to have closed back due to my living situation and 5 kids. Besides the presentation and amazing build quality, these were impressive out of the box and even plugged directly in. Better separation and detail than the Sony's, truer soundstage, and still bass body enough to keep fun. In fact, the accuracy (without the harshness) made these even more fun as I just got lost in the music again.

I knew I had to pair with an amp, but budget would be tight (I mean, these are cheap). The Aune x1s did a very good job, and is probably the better budget option. I did venture to get a Jotunheim, for balanced, and I liked it, but something in the signature just didn't sound as smooth and natural as these should sound. Then, I tried the Fostex HPA4BL. I am so glad I did! Great build and, to me, the better pairing than the Jot. It just sounded more natural and smoother.

I've said enough, but regardless of your amp choice (or not...I do use a USB-C adapter straight into my iPad Pro 11 when not at my desk, and sound fantastic), I just can't imagine being disappointed with these cans. There is a weight, but it's distributed well. Plus, you should feel like something substantial is embracing your cranium if you're gonna have a mental glitch (wife speak) enough to spend this kind of money.

P.S. - They do sound fantastic with movies on my upgraded iMac and mixing. Out.

[30 Hz to 30 kHz] Used to have the best Stax phones, twice!, and the Audeze beats them hands down!

[6.6' / 2 m] Excellent build quality, very premium feeling. a bit heavy but not a deal breaker for me since it's quite comfortable.
I tried Sennheiser HD650, too warm for me, the veil is real and I don't like that mellow feeling. I also tried beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro, while I love the soundstage and crisp sound, the treble is too sharp for my taste, every sibilance annoys me.
So my goal was to find a balance between two, a perfect combination of those two. Focal clear hits that exact sweet spot. I know they're not in the same price range but I like what I hear from clear from first moment. The only compromise I'm making is...well, cost.
I'm using a very basic schiit stack and based on my research and what I hear, it's enough.

[Open-Back] Wow what a good sound and the attention to detail on these hp's is very good, just got them I've been looking for a really good closed back headphone and to my ears these are the best sounding, the level of quality, tonal balance and transparency of these hp's are second to none. They come with a new cable not that old Audeze ribbon type cable, and this new cable is much more attractive. Also the headband has changed these are weighty hp's for sure but very balanced. The sq of these hp's are something you really need to hear simply amazing sounding, I'm very pleased with this purchase and feel the LCD-XC's are a must have for anyone who enjoys their music..enjoy

[Off-White ] I wanted these headphones and live in Canada. I know who sells the cheapest here and they are a 10 minute drive away from me. They could not support my order with Pay Pal properly so I gave up and said I would bite the bullet with Customs duties, brokerage hst etc. and order from the US. B & H has the option for you to pay duties etc in advance so there are no surprises later. I cant believe these guys got this product to my front door in 2 days. After all was said and done I still saved $45. How is that possible? But it is. B&H you are my new to go to place from now on, even though Im and Canada and your in New York. I would recommend this place to anyone. Service is one of my number 1 criteria and B & H just hit the top of my list. Product came in perfect condition. So far these headphones are unbelievable for what I use them for which is a combination of recording mixing etc. I have 5 other sets of headphones but keep using these. Great product. Thank you B& H!

[Off-White ] Clarity meets and exceeds HD800S levels of clarity, especially when it comes to instrument separation. Imaging is excellent as is the sound stage, granted the soundstage is not as expansive as the HD800S. Bass is tight and accurate. I find myself reaching for these cans over the HD800S and HD660S. 5/5 stars

[Off-White ] If you want to mix in an untreated room, this is the way to go. Even just listening music is a total experience with these, you can hear multiple levels and where they are supposed to be, real nice. For the price they are worth it over treating a room, especially if you are modular with your studio.
