Tiffen 82mm Warm Soft Fx 2 Filter
- Product Code: eq1330

The Tiffen 82mm Warm Soft FX 2 Filtercan be applied to create a warm cast over an entire image while purposely reducing the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits, or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.
The warming effect of this filter can be obtained under daylight when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed, or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected. This filter's overall coloration reflects a mired shift value of +45.
This filter has a grade of 2. Grades of 1/2, 1, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.
This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. Why isn't it available in 46mm filter size? That's the size most of my Micro Four Thirds lenses are.
A: Charles... this filter is available, but B&H does not list it on their website as it is considered Special Order . Please call B&H directly and tell them you would like to request they special order item # 46WPOL from Tiffen. I currently show a few of these in stock and they can be dropped shipped directly from Tiffen to you when ordered through B&H.
Q: 2. Do this product rotate?
A: Yes, you must rotate the filter to adjust the density of the filter for your image.
Q: 3. Looking to put this on my voigtlander 17.5mm so I can shoot video at f/2.0 in daylight. With a 3stop ND filter I own, I have to shoot at f/8 to shoot at 1/50 shutter for video. If my math is correct, I would need at least 7 stop filter for f/2.0. When does the infamous cross pattern show up on this filter?
A: Thanks for your interest in the Tiffen VND filter. The X Bar is dependent upon three factors.... the sensor size of your camera, your focal length and your VND setting. There is no way to say when exactly it will happen. The X Bar typically happens when shooting wide angle and when using higher density settings on the VND. This will happen sooner with a full frame sensor. To eliminate the X Bar you would simply adjust your focal length (zoom in), go to a lighter density setting on the VND or a combination of both. The X Bar effect is a product of optical physics and does not indicate that anything is wrong with the VND filter. If it appears you are simply operating outside of the recommended VND parameters.
Q: 4. Can I still get lens flares?
A: There is no filter that eliminates flares. In fact, sometimes a filter increases the chance of flares. It depends on the lens and the light that is in and out of frame. Therefore to answer your question, it depends. What you need to do is to put it on and off the lens while checking for flares. As a motion picture camera assistant I had to check for flare on the lens, with or without filter, during the set up of the entire move (if there was one) of every shot. Wish I had a buck for each time I had to do that. I could buy two Leicas, with a nice set of lenses.
Q: 5. My sony rx100 mark v has a 52mm filter holder, can this nd filter be used?
A: This filter will fit any camera lens with 52mm filter threads
Q: 6. does the Tiffen 52mm fader have front threads? the product photo doesn't show any, and I read a review stating there were no front threads---I realize the specs indicate it has the threads---just want to be surethank you
A: The Tiffen 52mm Variable Neutral Density Filter does not have front filter threads.
Q: 7. Which filter best work in a canon 6D?
A: Filter sizing depends on the lens, not the camera. Check your lens to see what the filter thread diameter is. Regarding which filter works best ... it all depends upon what you want to do. Each filter is designed for something different, see the link below for more information:a href= http://www.tiffen.com/tiffen_edu_camera_filters.html target= _blank http://www.tiffen.com/tiffen_edu_camera_filters.html/a
Q: 8. I have recently purcahsed this filter and I used it for the first time last week. I find that when I use it at apertures smaller than f8 that a discoloured area appears (I suspect it is refracted light as in some instances I see banding of different colours). I suspect I received a bad copy but wanted to check if others had this issue as well?
A: Please submit an inquiry to Tiffen technical support at a href= http://tiffen.com/contact/. target= _blank http://tiffen.com/contact/./a Make sure to include a copy of your receipt and two photos of the same subject. One taken without the filter, one taking with the filter showing the issue.
Q: 9. I'd like to add this filter to the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Is the 58mm filter the right size? Also is there a way to use a lens hood with the filter in place and if so what type?
A: The filter is the right size. The lens hood for the 18-55 is called the ew-63c made by Canon. There is a possibility that they could work together but i wouldn't bet on it. The hood would have to be applied before attaching the filter, and even if the filter could fit on with the lens hood attached it would be near impossible to tighten it on the filter ring. But the good news is that isn't really a problem. With modern coating on lenses, lens hoods, which prevent lens flare is practically not an issue unless you are shooting right in to the sun or bright light source. A lens hood wouldn't be able to prevent lens flare anyways when shooting into a bright light source. Basically, a lens hood will not have a large practical purpose so there's no reason to shoot with one on while using the neutral density filter.
Q: 10. Can this be stacked with a VND filter?
A: The PolarPro QuartzLine FX Mist Filter (77mm, 1/4 Diffusion) has back threads but not front threads So to use it stacked it needs to be the front filter. So your variable nd needs to have 77mm front threads.
