Premium optical features including extra-low dispersion glass make the Pentax SD 10x42 ED Binoculars | High-Performance Opticsa great choice for all-around use. You'll see sharp details of distant objects with the 10x magnifying power, and the 42mm objective lenses gather plenty of light for a bright image even in low-light conditions including at dusk, dawn, or under deep cover. The ED glass corrects for chromatic aberration to ensure accurate colors and high contrast, and fully antireflective-coated optics maximize light transmission through the entire optical path to make views appear bright and crisp.

Complementing the optical performance is a housing that is built for a lifetime of rugged outdoor use. The chassis is made of grippy, comfortable-to-hold thermoplastic elastomer resin. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled to resist internal fogging from sudden temperature changes. With the optional TP-3 adapter, you can mount the binoculars on a tripod for hands-free, no-shake viewing. Whether birding, sightseeing, hunting, exploring the backcountry, or seeing the stage at a music festival, this optic will assure a great view.

Q: 9. Are these made in China?

A: Yes its made in China. Overall I am very happy with the binoculars. Brought it on African safari last month and really enjoyed using it to observe big 5 from dawn to night. I also bought a Vankey cellphone adapter mount for iPhone and used it to take mostly videos at the Cape of Good Hope and safaris. The image quality for videos is not professional quality but acceptable even on the big screen. The color saturation and clarity are not as good as the camcorder. Very slight chromatic aberration may be seen at the edges but not serious. Not sure if the German glass has same issue. I am not happy that the binoculars does not have a 1/4 inch adapter for camera tripod. Zeiss sells their version of adapter for over $200 which is ridiculously expensive. Why cant they tap a hole and put a rubber cap during manufacturing? I fabricated my own adapter using recycled wood and some Velcro for under $2 and it worked perfectly throughout the whole trip. Our safari guide even commented that it was the first he had seen the binoculars setup and was really impressed

[Roof] First off, thanks for the really quick two day delivery and great price.
Now for the Binoculars,,,,
These Hawkes' just exude quality!
I have a pair of very high priced 10 x 50 binos from another manufacturer and the bright clear image of these 10 x 42 Hawkes' just puts the other to shame. They snap into focus and have a superb dept of field that doesn't require constant refocusing.
Everything is well thought out including the well designed carrying case.
These have proven to be a worth while purchase.

[Roof] Bought these for my daughter, who is a committed (and fussy) birder. Her comments — New binocs weigh less, have a brighter and sharper image, and the focus wheel isn't battle. .... And they fog my glasses less. So, all in all, a massive hit.

[Roof] Bought these for myself and gave my 8x42 Trailseeker ED to my wife. Are in Ecuador currently. My bins are great early morning/late evening - out dueling my camera for birding. Spotting Antpittas is no small task!
Meeting all my expectations.

[4.2 mm] I have used this pair when I am out for photography for several years because of the recommendation of a friend. I recently bought a second pair for my grandchildren to use when they are with me. I find them to be balanced in my hand and not too heavy. I am happy with my purchase of this item.
