The Ploytec PL2 MIDI Synthesizer for Music Productionis a compact duophonic mono analog synthesizer that is powered and controlled via 5-pin MIDI. Alternatively the device can be powered by 5 VDC 100 mA using the included USB Micro-B port. The device can generate a wide variety of sounds using two square wave oscillators that can be connected together to create saw, sine, and pulse waveforms.

The synthesizer can be controlled and sequenced using your favorite DAW or hardware sequencer. You can program and store up to 32 sounds in the device's built-in memory. The device utilizes subtractive synthesis whereby the generated waveforms are routed through low-, high-, and band-pass digital filters to edit the frequency spectrum and amplify resonance.

The unit includes LFO modulation, PWM, ADSR envelope, and various play modes such as mono on, dual on, dual/detune, dual/octave, note priority, aftertouch, breath control, sustain hold, key-off attack, portamento, portamento time, all sound off, and all notes off. You can sync the LFO and envelope speed to an external MIDI clock. Future synthesizer extensions and new features can be updated via firmware and MIDI system (SysEx) transmission.

Physically, the device features one MIDI in jack, one RCA audio jack, and one Micro-B USB (for power only).

[1.3 oz (36 g)] I was debating (and saving) to purchase this program (that I studied and learned in college) when I came across this version, at the same time I had just enough to make the purchase. This is a wonderful program tried and true, top of the line. Any DAW will help you arrange music, but just like cars, some fit differently. A Chevy cobalt will get you to your destination as well as a Rolls Royce. They will both technically do their job of getting you to your destination, but one will feel just right, comfortable, natural. That's what this program is. Comfortable (since it's what I learned on) an extension of my creativity, like a piano or my voice. Thank you B&H, sent from above in his perfect time, for providing this deal when I needed it. This is the Rolls Royce of DAWs for me. 5

[1.3 oz (36 g)] If you are on the fence about purchasing this gear, I can only say it is the best thing I have ever purchased for music production! It really does do it all. It is made well, sturdy, and the number of short cuts to achieve any number of functions has been amazingly well considered. The ability to integrate a data ssd hard drive in the unit itself is brilliant, but they didn't stop there ... you can still access media via SD cards and USB drives. Akai has done a great job of addressing most needs in this one maschine! 5

[0.05 lb] I have only had the Electribe for 10 days or so, but so far it is one of the more useful rhythm tools I have used. I play mostly folk, blues, and world-type music but I have already developed some excellent rhythm tracks using mostly the percussion section and going light on the filters that significantly modify sound. Another positive factor is that while simple to use initially, a person could spend months experimenting with the different sounds and filters. I also like that it is both a box that will essentially play the rhythm track for you or you can play it as an instrument. While I would like a song mode, it does have a Pattern Set process that allows you to string many four-bar pattern sets in a row by just touching a button before the end of the last beat of the fourth measure of a pattern. I would like to have eight measures instead of four and the Chord function would be more useful if it displayed the chords being played. As usual, ordering from B & H was easy and the delivery was prompt. I love the free Expedited Shipping. 5
