Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. APS-C or FF? (Does" CF" mean "Cropped Frame, like with Tokina?)

A: Venus Optics Argus 25mm F/0.95 CF APO Lens for Canon RF BH #VE2595RF • MFR #VE2595RF is a APS-C lens and CF means close focus as the lens has a minimum focus distance of 34 cm.

Q: 2. Since this lens has no electronics, does focus peaking on the Z7 work with this lens?

A: Yes Nikon Z7 will show peaking when used with Venus Optics Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Nikon Z.

Q: 3. I saw a review of a pre-production version of this lens. On that one the flange was milled for 6-bit coding. Is that the case with this one?

A: According to Venus Labs, they state that the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/5.6 FF RL Lens for Leica M is 6-bit coded for metadata usage on Leica camera. They also state that they coded the lens based on the Leica system. There is no customized Laowa coding. As a result, you should memorize the amended name of the lens designation.

Q: 4. Is this lens weather-sealed?

A: No, the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 45mm f/0.95 does not offer weather sealing.

Q: 5. Does this lens have electrical contacts to communicate the settings to the camera?

A: Unfortunately, the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 28mm f/1.2 FF Lens (Nikon Z) does not have any electrical contacts.

Q: 6. the shiny bit at the end of the lens, which goes into the camera - can this be removed (I see there are some screws)?

A: The silver bit at the end of the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 45mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Sony E is how you mount the lens to the camera.

Q: 7. Is the Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF hood removable?

A: Yes, the lens hood included with the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Sony E-Mount is removable.

Q: 8. Does the focus peaking work on Canon cameras?

A: Yes, Venus Optics Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Canon R will support focus peaking on all Canon RF cameras.

Q: 9. Is it 25mm on Canon mirrorless full frame R6? Thanks

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens (Canon RF) is a lens designed for APS-C sized sensors. On the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera this will still perform like a 25mm, but with heavy vignetting. It may make most sense to use it in the 1.6x crop on that camera.

Q: 10. Is the Nikon Z7 compatible with this manual focus lens? Besides no image stabilization, are other capabilities lost?

A: As the Venus Optics Laowa Argus FF 28mm T1 Cine Lens (Nikon Z) is a fully manual lens, aperture and focus would need to be controlled manually as well. You may also lose any focus confirmation features built into the camera itself.

[f/1.2] This is fun lens, super-wide and it performs quite well. Not a lens to be used for Milky Way shooting, but great for landscapes or normal night photography, including star trails. Coma is fairly well controlled with its smallest f/5.6 aperture. If you are comfortable using fully manual lenses, this is a nice addition, very compact in the bag!

[2.45 lb] This lens has stayed on my z50 since I got it about a month ago and think it will continue to stay there. I love the razor thin focus, the bokeh, the lens flare. I like the price and that it’s equivalent to a 50mm on a full frame camera. Since it’s manual, It’s not for everyone and every situation, but it’s really nice for more mindful photography.

[Manual Focus] This is my first Laowa lens, but it won't be my last. I get that this is a photo lens. And that real cinema lenses have gears for motors etc, but the focus throw on this lens is so long that it makes focusing handheld (and with its shallow depth of field) a breeze.

You can break down your rig as light as possible, as I've done in the photo I've attached and use focus peaking or the manual scales on the lens to focus.

It's built incredibly well. It's all metal, but lightweight and portable, so you're inspired to take it anywhere you just want to document life as it happens around you. The focal length is a little tight on crop sensor, but I find it's the sweet spot to give just enough compression between your subject and background. There's just something about 33/35 mm lens on s35 sensors that look really good.

On the Red Komodo- X, this is about 43mm in 6k 17:9 mode. It;s also APO, which helps reduce chromatic aberration (the purple-ish/greenish fringing around edges in bright conditions). Yes there's still some, but nowhere near as much as you'd expect for an aperture around f/0.95 aperture.

The images look really good, too. For some reason, I feel like there's some barrel distortion... which I love, or maybe just some kind of 3d pop for images framed in the center. I can't explain it, but there's a lovely character to this lens.

I have an R6 Mark II, which is full frame, and this won't work without heavy vignetting on the corners since the image circle doesn't cover full frame cameras. Again, this lens is made only for crop factor (The CF on the side of the lens) cameras (aps-c and super 35,) On full frame or anything else, you'll need to use a digital tele converter or crop-in in post (which ultimately reduces resolution.)

Anyway, hope this helps someone!

[Sony E] The r5 makes manual focus so incredibly easy, I can confidently capture bride groom portraits with ease and know they're in focus. The bokeh has a vintage reminiscence to it which I absolutely love

[62 mm (Front)] If you're on the fence about Laowa lenses, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. As a person who normally buys strictly manufacturer lenses, Laowa is right on par with them and the Sharpness from this lens is unbelievable!

[f/1.2] Excited to have these for macro photography, but buyers should know at least mine arrived dark grey rather than black.

[75.4°] Use it for most of my work, great wide angle. Great light controls on the lens, easy to work with.

[Full-Frame] Not for everyone, as they say, but surprisingly good for the price for what it is. If you want it for super thin depth of field and creamy smooth bokeh you may be happy. Stopped down, sharpness is good, especially in the center. Works very well for urban scenes at night as well and keeps the ISO down. At the current price of $650 I'm very pleased, but at list of $999 maybe less so. If you want an all around 35mm there are better choices, mostly slower by a stop or more, but then with AF or at greater expense. Beautifully built as well.
