For the Kanta series, a flax sandwich cone speaker has been combined with a beryllium tweeter. This unique flax/beryllium combination gives audio incredible warmth and musicality. Made in France, the patented Flax cone has already proven itself in other Focal speakers, like the Aria 906. The midrange speaker uses TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) suspension, and every Kanta series speaker is also equipped with an NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) motor, which stabilizes the magnetic field for perfectly defined sound and better controlled bass. The IAL3 Beryllium tweeter combines the IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) and IHL (Infinite Horn Loading) tweeter features, both of which help with the absorption of waves, thus reducing distortion.

Due to its incredible rigidity, beryllium represents the ultimate material for a tweeter dome. Able to cover more than five octaves (1 to 40 kHz), you may ask yourself why does Focal strive for an extended response at 40 kHz, if the human ear can only hear up to 20 kHz? If you can extend frequency response, you will improve the perception of transients and other micro details.

The linearity of the speaker's response curve is mainly a function of three conflicting parameters: lightness, rigidity, and damping. Currently, only one material permits a joining of these parameters: beryllium. For domes with identical masses, beryllium is seven times more rigid than titanium or aluminum, the latter two well known for their rigidity. This results in a sound wave propagation three times faster than titanium and two and a half times faster than aluminum. In the end, the linearity of the frequency response curve, the acoustic transparency, and the impulse response of the beryllium tweeter are maximized and offer near-perfect sound.

Flax cones are made of a high-quality flax fiber core enclosed by two thin layers of glass fiber. Flax is twice as light as fiberglass, because the fiber is hollow. It also has very-low elasticity, which makes it ideal to increase the flexural rigidity of the sandwich structure. To design a high-performance diaphragm, you have to optimize a complex set of criteria, which are for the most part contradictory. The composite solution using flax in a sandwich structure with fiberglass skins is a very harmonious way of combining low mass with high internal damping, high velocity of sound, and high flexural rigidity.

The flax cone is made in France exclusively by Focal since 2013. With their original design, the cone is entirely oriented towards acoustic performance. F cone are characterized by their natural sound, with low coloration, their richness of reproduction in the midrange register and their tighter bass.

With the Kanta series, everything is designed and made to create acoustic softness and warmth, including the density and stiffness of the front panel and cabinet materials, softened angles, and double port vents. The cabinet is made from one-piece integrally molded wood. The front panel is molded in one piece from High-Density Polymer (HDP). This material has excellent performance; it is 70% denser than MDF, 15% stiffer, and provides 25% more damping. The one-piece front panel totally eliminates any sound diffraction.

This foam bung allows you to make some fine adjustments to the bass performance of your loudspeakers. The Kanta N°1 loudspeaker has been designed to reproduce deep bass in an even manner for a free space position. If you position your loudspeakers close to a wall, bass frequencies are further enhanced. Similarly, some rooms have acoustics that exaggerate low bass. The foam bung allows you to reduce the amount of energy from the port tube to reduce bass levels and improve damping in such situations.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. There is a 5th front switch labeled Protection. The manual does not address the switch use. What is it's use?

A: I spoke with the folks at Pyle Pro and they said that this is a protection circuit that protects the speakers if there is a sure in power. You probably want to keep it engaged all the time, and I'm not sure why protection is selectable, but that is what Pyle chose to do.

Q: 2. Can this be used with the in wall volume control knobs?

A: In theory, yes, the Pyle Pro PSS6 6 High Power Speaker Selector could be used with in-wall volume controls that correlate with its impedance and output wattage specifications.

Q: 3. What is the difference between the A2+ model vs the A1 model?

A: The Audioengine A2+ Wireless Bluetooth Speaker System with S6 6" 210W Subwoofer Kit (Satin Black), BH # AUA2PBTBLKS6 (B&H Kit), offers the following differences over the A1speakers according to Audioengine: The A1 and A2+ are both premium powered stereo speakers, with high-quality aptX Bluetooth for quick and easy connection to any app or device. Modeled after the A2+, the A1 also boasts precision tuned, hand-crafted cabinets, uses the same silk dome tweeters and aramid fiber woofers, and features an aux audio input and subwoofer connection. Where the A1s differ, however, are in the types and styles of connections and the finish style of the cabinets. The A1 speakers use spring clips for the speaker wire connections rather than 5-way binding posts and, unlike the A2+, do not offer RCA or USB connection options. The A1 hand-finished cabinets feature vinyl exterior finish rather than the painted finish offered on the A2+.

Q: 4. I have Audioengine HD4 bookshelf speakers that read "5 Ohms." If I have ONE pair running via the PSS4, do I have the Protect button on or off? If I have TWO pair running, do I have the Protect button on or off? Thank you!!

A: We do not recommend using the Audioengine HD4 Bluetooth Speaker System in conjunction with the Pyle Pro PSS4 4 High Power Speaker Selector, as the HD4 are active and the Pyle is meant to pass power and audio to passive speakers.

Q: 5. can you play more than one speaker selector at a time?

A: With the Pyle PSS6 you can engage any combination of the speaker selectors, including all on.

Q: 6. is there a material i could use to increase separation between the speakers and my tempered glass tv stand? trying to minimize vibrations. using the audio engine ds1 speaker stands ( B&H#AUADS1 ) and they work well. just looking to add an additional thin pad underneath to absorb a little more vibration

A: I recommend considering the Audioengine DS1 stands BH #AUADS1

Q: 7. can it connect 2 amplifier outputs to 1 set of speakers to choose source?

A: The PSS4 is a speaker level switcher. It allows you to connect a single pair of speaker cables from a receiver and allows you to connect 4 sets of speakers for selection. This unit only supports a single source.

Q: 8. New or Used?

A: This is a new, unopened unit.

Q: 9. does this turntable have an anti-skate control?

A: I do not see an anti-skate control listed in the manual for the Thorens TD-102.

Q: 10. Does this have traditional audio output in addition to USB?

A: This turntable does have a standard RCA stereo audio output as well as Bluetooth. This unit does not have USB.

[2400 Hz ] After having little success with the free methods to adjust the autofocus micro adjustment (AFMA) for my Canon 5dmkii, I decided to try FoCal Plus 2.0. It works amazingly well -- in fact for some cameras, like my 5dmkii, once the process is started, it is completely hands-free. Otherwise, you have to adjust the AFMA to what the program tells you during the test as it determines the best setting. Typically, that's 3 or 4 times during the test, I'm told. If you want the best performance from your lenses, invest in this product. The only bummer is that the program doesn't qualify for free shipping. What's up with that?

[25 to 150 W] I bought these for my home studio. They look great, feel very sturdy, and cable organization through stand is a huge plus.

Currently using these for Yamaha HS50's (5 woofer). Can comfortably use these with the smaller stand attachment. Considering upgrading my speakers, and I feel confident that the larger stand attachment would comfortably sit most monitors that I would use for the home studio.

[2400 Hz ] I have a pair of B&W 606 S2 speakers that I absolutely loved for hi fi stereo listening. Been happy for years but recently decided to try the 706 S3 because I always wondered why the 706 cost more than $1000 more than the 606. After 30 seconds, I know why. The midrange and highs from the 706 is silky smooth and depending on the material, the sound stage is deep. Sometimes I think the instruments and the singer(s) is in the same room! It's that good. I am driving these speakers with a McIntosh MC275 and boy does it sound good. Also the fit and finish of the cabinet is much higher than on the 606 series which might matter to some people. For me it's the exceptional and accurate reproduction of musical instruments and vocals that matter most to me.

[2-Way] Used Reikan FoCal Plus to calibrate 3 lens with a Canon 90D. Two lens were Canon L glass (200mm f/2.8 L II, 24-70mm f/2.8 L II) and one lens Tamron (10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II). Took less than 2 hours total including first time set-up of target, camera on tripod, and lighting (two desk lamps positioned close to target). Reikan FoCal Plus provided clear instructions and progress updates in each case, including very helpful set-up instructions for fine-tuning lighting and distances between camera and target. Ran several times for each lens to verify results. Very pleased with focus improvement for lenses, especially the Canon 200mm f/2.8 L II.
