Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this mic give the left ear to one mic and the right ear to the other or does it do a mixdown into one mono channel?

A: Based on the description, this unit will output both sources to a mono input. This would suggest that both sources will be mixed together going into any device.

Q: 2. Will the Sony ECM-44B - Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone work with the FetHead Phantom?

A: Sorry, I just don't know.

Q: 3. Does it work with iPad?

A: Iphones and Android input mono via their TRRS (headphone) jacks. Both mikes will record onto 1 channel. The Rode SC6-L will input a true stereo input into an IOS device through it's lightning connector. This Polsen OLM-20 will input into an Ipad 1 channel mixing both microphones.

Q: 4. Hello,According to Sure all of their dynamic microphones are unaffected and will not cause damage or cause poor performance if phantom power is used. Also other sources state if a dynamic mic is newer and or balanced it can be used with phantom power. I have both dynamic (Sure) and condenser mics. Will a dynamic mic damage the Fethead Phantom or will it cause poor audio performance while used with dynamic mics? Thank you and have a great day,McCoy

A: As you know the Fethead Phantom passes phantom power through to the microphone after it uses a portion of it for its own operation. I oubt that a dynamic microphone will damage the Fethead Phantom. However, the impedance of the Fethead Phantom I believe is different than the standard Fethead as it was designed for low impedance condenser mics. The regular Fethead has an impedance of 22K ohm whereas the Phantom version is lower (I believe around 1K). So if you are using a high impedance dynamic mic with the Fethead Phantom the audio performance may be affected. However, a competitor of the Fethead, the Cloudlifter is around 3K, considerably lower than the regular Fethead. I purchased the Phantom version for use with condenser mic and have a different product for my dynamic mics. But I would not be concerned to try Fethead Phantom with my dynamic mics. One issue I had with the Phantom (a few others have reported it as well) is that with one of my condenser mics (none of the others) it was picking up signals from a local radio station. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to discover why this was happening as normally that was not an issue with that mic. I ended up adding a Sescom inline RF filter (SES-Inline-EMCM) at the end of the XLR cable before it goes into the mixer. This worked very well and eliminated all the RF signal. And in fact I found I could attach the Fethead Phantom to the Sescom adapter without any issues. Normally Triton recommends that the Fethead is attached directly to the mic connector. I hope the above helps.

Q: 5. The rode NTG-2 has can power itself with a AA battery. Will that battery power transfer also the this Fethead or must the Fethead power come from the recorder? I would like to plug NTG-2/Fethead combo directly into mirrorless camera.

A: No, the battery power for the NTG-2 will not also power the TRITON AUDIO FetHead Phantom In-Line Microphone Preamp.

Q: 6. Can I plug in a thumb drive to this unit and record vinyl directly on to the thumb drive? I ask so that I can use the the drive drive in my auto to listen to vinyl lps.

A: No

Q: 7. can this unit only be powered by the internal battery?

A: The Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter is powered by a 9V battery. It does not have an internal rechargeable battery.

Q: 8. Is this the correct Fethead for the Deity S-Mic 2S? Or should I be getting the regular Fethead? (The S-Mic 2S is a phantom powered mic, but even still this isn't clear).

A: This is the correct model.

Q: 9. I'd like to connect these to a xlr snake that goes to an audio mixer. What adapter would i need?

A: All you will need in order to connect it to your snake is a 3.5mm female to XLR male see one option in the link bellow https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387850-REG/Rode_VXLR_VXLR_Mono_Mini_Jack.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 10. How long does one battery last?

A: The battery life is not specified. However, users say they get about 40 hours. I've had this mic set for over a year with a spare battery. It is still running on the original cell. It goes on, and on and on. Keep a couple of spares and don't worry about it. It's not a problem,

[Blue] I use these with MXL 603s's. Now it's time to look into better mics and a sound-insulated room. I tried no mics and got much much less noise, then 100 ohms across the signal pins and got even less noise. Didn't measure the noise; merely listening, with headphones, to the output amplified by a Panasonic HDC-Z10000. I like the idea of the rotary switch, instead of a pot, for the gain control. It has a pot for the trim control, so it has the best of both worlds. Construction is very good with high-quality connectors and controls. It's pretty cool to have a five-year transferable warranty.

[Iron] There are no reviews on this unit but it had all of the features we were looking for. We are using this with a SM58 mic and it gives that extra boost you need when people stand too far away from the podium. Just use the pad button on your mixer to cut static from the preamp and adjust the dial on the MP60 as needed for proper volume.

[AC Input] this is the best preamp value on the market that ive found.....used a avalon in a friends studio, and owned a ua la-610 in my own studio....both of these preamps are 1500 dollars or more, and are not as clean and crisp sounding as the grace designs preamp....and where other preamps take a degree to figure out how they work, and take a LONG TIME to get set to prefrence, this little gem is SIMPLE and very EASY to fine tune....for under seven hundred dollars, this is a professional preamp needed to make the leap from home studio to professional turnkey studio, and buy it from BHPHOTO, they are the best

[Blue] I am well pleased with the Grace Design m101 mic preamp. I recorded vocals & guitar using the AKG C3000 through the Grace Design m101 then into my Apogee A/D converters. WOW! The m101 is certainly the most transparent mic preamp, in the price range, that I have heard. The signal to noise ratio on this unit is extremely high. I did a recording in a noisy room, using the microphone close to sound source and the recorded signal had very little ambient noise. Moreover, the signal that I captured through m101 sounded clean and full. It accurately represented the sound source.

[AC Input] I was using a Mackie 800R into a Digi003 to record before buying the Grace M101. I mostly record acoustic guitar tracks. The difference is dramatic. I get a very open spacious detailed sound with the Grace compared to the Mackie. It's well worth the price. The criticism i've heard is that the Grace is extremely accurate and doesn't color the sound in the way the other pre's can. This is exactly what I wanted So I'm very pleased.

[Blue] I'm using the Grace Design M101 to boost my Sure SM7B mic. It plugs into a UAD Apollo Twin Duo X Thunderbolt which plugs into my MacBook. I do conversation level voice recording for online course creation.

I get more clear gain than I need for my mic, which outputs notoriously low signal.

If you're in the market for an outstanding preamp and are OK with the price, this is an option worth exploring.

[Blue] Best pre I've seen for the money. Nice and warm and clean tone. Perfect for vocals. I found when you push the gain, it get's a rich distortion which makes for meaty guitar overdrive.
