The KSM137/SL ST PAIR from Shure KSM137/SL Cardioid Microphone Kit with Stands & Cablesis a stereo pair of cardioid condenser studio microphones designed for instrument recording and sound reinforcement. The KSM137/SL offers a wide 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response making it a flexible microphone for a variety of applications. The KSM137/SL features a cardioid element and permanently biased transducer design resulting in clean, accurate signal reproduction and frequency response. The transformer-less, class-A output circuitry provides a noise free output signal path while maintaining high gain levels. The tight cardioid pattern is effective in attenuating off-axis signal due to room ambiance, instruments, monitor noise etc.

There is a 3-position low frequency roll-off switch, eliminating low frequency rumble noise and counteracting proximity effect. The KSM137/SL handles high sound pressure levels and features a 3-position pad switch providing attenuation at 0 dB, 15 dB and 25 dB. This allows confident miking of instruments high in transient response such as drums, percussion, and brass. the microphone is suitable for piano, strings, guitar, and woodwind as well.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it need phanton power to work?

A: No, phantom power is not needed for dynamic microphones like the Shure 55SH.

Q: 2. This says "antenna diversity" so how does that compare to true diversity?

A: The Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System only specifies "microprocessor-controlled internal antenna diversity" but does not get more specific on the type of diversity implemented. This article provides a good explanation of the differences in diversity types: https://bit.ly/3J80yOw

Q: 3. Can this mic be used with a dslr camera?

A: No its only design for pc/mac ios

Q: 4. "You can power the mic with 48V phantom power." This sentence is in the description for this product. I don't understand. Is it necessary to buy an additional accessory to use this mic?

A: In order to use this mic, you will need a mixer, interface, or hardware recorder with an XLR mic input, and the ability to provide 48v phantom power. As well, you would need an XLR mic cable to connect it to either of those sources, a mic stand to attach it to, and a pop filter if recording vocals.

Q: 5. Can I mute mic from the body pack?

A: No, the transmitter does not have a mute switch.

Q: 6. What could I use for wind protection for this? Something like a rycote is preferred.

A: If being used on stereo bar for a Spaced Pair or ORTF setup, you could use two of the Rycote Baby Ball Gag's and their additional windjammers, B&H # RYBBG20 and BH #RYBBGWJ. If looking to do an XY inside of a blimp, the closest option we offer is the Rycote Stereo Cyclone Kit 1,B&H # RYCXYK1. However please note it is sized for a 3'' in length mic and the KSM are 5.75'' and may not fit properly.

Q: 7. Does the MV51 have any kind of noise cancelling features? How does it compare to other mics, in this regard...such as the iRIG MIC Studio, or the Blue Spark Digital?

A: The Shure Motiv MV51 does not have noise canceling but it does have 5 DSP presets. It is cross platform with USB and lightning connectors. The build quality is very good. As far as comparing it to the iRig and the Blue Spark is not something that I would do. They all have their pros and cons. The only thing that matters is do you like the sound of the mic. Which as with all mics is a matter of personal preference.

Q: 8. In the description, there's this sentence: " You can power the mic with 48V phantom power." What does this mean? Do you have to buy an accessory of some kind to provide power?

A: In order to use this mic, you will need a mixer, interface, or hardware recorder with an XLR mic input, and the ability to provide 48v phantom power. Phantom power is a 48v charge required by the mic to work. As well, you would need an XLR mic cable to connect it to either of those sources, a mic stand to attach it to, and a pop filter if recording vocals.

Q: 9. Anybody have trouble with the usb cable staying in the usb connector?

A: The USB port on the Shure MV51 is a micro-B. Perhaps an angled plug may be a good option if you are having problems with the straight plug disconnecting. We have a 6' long StarTech USB 2.0 Type-A Male to Left-Angle Micro-USB Male Cable (B&H# STUUSBHAUB6L) that you can try.

Q: 10. How does the KSM141/SL ST pair differ from the previous KSM141/ST pair?

A: There does not appear to be any difference at all between the current and older versions of the Shure KSM141/SL ST PAIR Condenser Microphone (Stereo Pair).

[Cardioid] I purchased two of these to use at Church Service. Using this with a Shure Belt Pack system. Really good results with speech and singing. Good quality product at a very reasonable price.

[48 V] I've used this microphone for close to 20 years now, and decided to write a review, because I feel it needs more love and attention on this site. I actually bought mine in Europe all that time ago, and paid almost twice of what it costs today at B&H. Still I have no regrets. Over the years, I have used it mostly for vocals and acoustic guitar. I am a singer-songwriter with a project studio, so the astronomical prices of big boy mics are out of my reach, but I have accumulated some really nice equipment over the years. Not sure that a 5000$ condenser would be a quantum leap, but it's possible. That said, in the 500-1200$ range, I have used nothing that rivals this one. It has great, crisp clarity on vocals and a solid, firm bottom end. I have noticed that the intelligibility of lyrics is very good with this mic. It never seems to be harsh or shrill sounding, yet there is always a reservoir of extra high end available through EQ. I'm usually using the low-cut filter to manage any rumble and floor resonance. In conjunction with a nice pencil mic (I'm using the affordable Octava 012), it's great for guitar. It's solidly built and comes with a sturdy shock mount, as well as the simpler mic clip for quick setup or tight corners. Today, I'd get the black one; other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

[Silver] I record a lot of live mostly classical music concerts and recitals. I've got a panoply of microphones and wouldn't you know it my mainstay Schoeps had to go off for repairs to Germany (a 2 month turnaround at best). I also own an old pair of KSM 137, (which are TERRIFIC mics) but I dropped one, so it is also out for repair (Shure's turnaround maybe a week!). With one final concert before the end of the season I had no reliable SDC pair so decided to purchase these 141s and try them out in Cardioid ORTF in front of two vocalists. In comparison to the Schoeps or 137 or Neumann and by only one use there is a winner here that can tag along for spots, ambience or even mains. With the added choice for Omnis, which I have not tried yet, I am pretty confident the detail and trueness to sound and response should work out very well. I was told a while back by an old pro that the 137s and 141s are good substitutes for the Schoeps, the 141's similar to the MK5 capsules. Well worth it. My advice, don't drop your mics or pull out a live 48p cable! Power down and keep a steady hand.

[Silver] I run a municipal TV station and do most of the V/O work. Bang for the buck this is a great mic. i use it in conjunction with the Shure XLR to USB adapter straight into Adobe Audition.

[Phantom Power] This is the best all around cost efficient dynamic microphone ever made. It can handle anything. It is a classic. I tested various microphones, including the U97, and kept comming back to this one.
